ETiSeg-Net: edge-aware self attention to enhance tissue segmentation in histopathological images

Digital pathology employing Whole Slide Images (WSIs) plays a pivotal role in cancer detection. Nevertheless, the manual examination of WSIs for the identification of various tissue regions presents formidable challenges due to its labor-intensive nature and subjective interpretation. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based semantic segmentation algorithms have emerged as valuable tools for assisting in this task by automating ROI delineation. The incorporation of attention modules and carefully designed loss functions has shown promise in further augmenting the performance of these algorithms. However, there exists a notable gap in research regarding the utilization of attention modules specifically for tissue segmentation, thereby constraining our comprehension and application of these modules in this context. This study introduces ETiSeg-Net (Edge-aware self attention to enhance Tissue Segmentation), a CNN-based semantic segmentation model that uses a novel edge-based attention module to achieve effective delineation of class boundaries. In addition, an innovative iterative training strategy is devised to efficiently optimize the model parameters. The study also conducts a comprehensive investigation into the impact of attention modules and loss functions on the efficacy of semantic segmentation models. Qualitative and quantitative evaluations of these semantic segmentation models are conducted using publicly available datasets. The findings underscore the potential of attention modules in enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of tissue semantic segmentation. © The Author(s) 2024.

Yakshagana, a traditional theater form from Karnataka, India, features a unique combination of vibrant costumes, dynamic dance movements, and elaborate facial makeup, making character and actor identification a challenging task for automated systems. This research work presents a novel approach to classify Yakshagana characters into two primary categories, Vaishnava and Shaiva, and to identify the actors performing these characters using advanced machine learning techniques. Our research employs a Cyclic Gated Recurrent Neural Network (Cyclic GRNN) for classification and identification tasks. For character category classification, we integrate YOLOv3 and Faster R-CNN models, achieving an accuracy of 92.85% with YOLOv3 and 88.285% with Faster R-CNN. The categorization is specifically focused on distinguishing between Vaishnava and Shaiva characters. Additionally, for actor name identification, we utilize a RESNET-50 model, attaining a high accuracy of 95.60%. The results demonstrate the efficacy of Cyclic GRNN combined with state-of-the-art object detection and image classification models in accurately recognizing and categorizing Yakshagana characters and actors. This research contributes to the preservation and digital documentation of Yakshagana by providing robust tools for automated identification, thereby facilitating cultural heritage studies and enhancing audience engagement with this traditional art form. © 2024 IEEE.

The broad utilization of interconnectivity and interoperability of processing frameworks have turned into an irreplaceable need to improve our everyday activities. All the while, it opens a way to exploitable weaknesses that work out positively past human control capacity. The weaknesses consider network protection instruments fundamental to accepting correspondence trade. Secure correspondence requires safety efforts to battle the dangers and necessities headways to safety efforts that counter advancing security dangers. So, emerging technologies like Deep Learning/ Machine Learning (DL/ML) come in handy for integration and better prediction. So, in this paper, we depict various deep learning/ML strategies used in detecting the imbalance in network traffic. The document also includes research that has been proposed on the topic of intrusion detection in network traffic over the previous four years (2020-2024) by a variety of research specialists. The main achievements of the security measures are recognized in this review together with their quantitative and qualitative success indicators. Additionally, as a guide for upcoming discoveries, this research study examines the major discoveries and the rationale for the lessons discovered. © 2024 IEEE.

Breast cancer in women is a significant public health concern worldwide, with many cases going undiagnosed until the advanced stages. Early detection is crucial for proper treatment and improved outcomes. There are some pre-trained models used by authors for the detection of breast tumor, but these models require extensive computation power due to their many layers and parameters. To address this issue, it is required to proposed convolutional neural network (CNN) model with fewer training parameters for classification of ultrasound images dataset to determine that a particular image is either benign or malignant. In this paper, CNN model is proposed with changes in some hyperparameters like the number of filters, filter size, batch normalization, learning rate, epoch, and batch size, to achieve better accuracy with less computational power. The proposed model was compared to other pre-trained models, including ResNet50, Efficient Net, and VGG16, using two databases (database A for training and validation data, and database B for testing data). Our proposed classifier outperformed than pre-trained classifiers in terms of accuracy. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Face recognition is a fast-growing technology that is widely used in forensics such as criminal identification, secure access, and prison *** contrasts from other classification issues in that there are normally a more number of classes in face recognition. Thus, the validation accuracy of the conventional subsystem face recognition is unsuitable. In order to overcome the problems that are likely to be encountered, the proposed method utilizes the Spider Monkey inspired Optimization (SMO) algorithm for face clustering and recognition. At first feature reduction is done by Advance Principal Component Analysis (APCA) which is a hybridization of PCA and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). After reducing the features, the selected features are grouped and faces are recognized by means of SMO algorithm. From the food search behavior of spider monkeys, SMO algorithm is developed. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by means of sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. Here the proposed method accomplishes 98.66% accuracy. Using the MATLAB platform, the recommended technique is implemented. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's institute of computer applications and Management 2024.

During the software development phase, vulnerability detection needs huge interest to make it less vulnerable and secure. Every time, the vulnerable software provokes hackers to make malicious activities and interrupts the software operation which results in millions in financial losses to the software firm. To minimize the losses, there are reliable and effectual vulnerability detection systems developed by security communities aspiring to recognize software vulnerabilities earlier in the development or testing stage. One such system is deep learning which can detect security vulnerabilities in the software. This work develops an optimized deep-learning system for detecting software vulnerabilities. Feature fusion approach is developed using canonical correlation analysis and Deep Residual Network (DRN) so that all the features in the input open-source projects are utilized without negligence. Moreover, an algorithm, AdamW- Rat Swarm Optimizer (AdamW-RSO), is proposed by combining AdamW and RSO, to train the DBN that is adopted to perform vulnerability detection. Finally, the detection performance is examined by utilizing metrics, such as recall, precision, and F-measure on a function-level vulnerable dataset. Efficient straggler task management in cloud environment using stochastic gradient descent with momentum learning-driven neural networks

In the modern era, large-scale computing systems distribute tasks into smaller units, allowing them to be executed simultaneously, accelerating job completion, and reducing energy usage. However, cloud computing systems face a significant challenge: the Long Tail problem. This problem arises when a small subset of slow-performing tasks impedes the overall progress of parallel job execution, resulting in longer service response times and decreased system efficiency. To reduce task execution time and energy consumption, we propose an efficient straggler task management framework for cloud data centers in this paper. A neural network-based resource predictor is initially developed and tuned with the Stochastic Gradient Descent with Momentum mechanism to analyze and classify heterogeneous tasks into stragglers and non-stragglers. Then, after identifying the straggler tasks, they are further classified into two categories: Resource Hunters and Long-Tail stragglers, based on their specific resource requirements. A task management policy is implemented to achieve parallelism and enhance sustainability in the cloud infrastructure. Considering the task category, this policy effectively schedules and allocates resources among user job requests. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed work, extensive simulations are performed using the Google Cluster Dataset (GCD). The results obtained from these simulations are subsequently compared to state-of-the-art techniques for a comprehensive analysis. The experimental results reveal substantial improvements in various metrics, including power consumption and active servers showing reductions of up to 55.16% and 35%, respectively. In the area of data hiding and information security, the greater need is to ensure high embedding capacity of the stego media without hampering the visual quality while ensuring the tightest possible security. Now, it has become one of the biggest challenge to meet all these requirements. Embedding secret messages in dual images is one of the latest techniques that aims to cater such needs. However, there are very few data hiding schemes that are currently using dual images, but are suffering from several shortcomings, such as security loophole and poor visual quality with limited hiding capacity. In this paper, a dual image-based reversible data hiding scheme has been proposed where multiple bits can be embedded within a pair of pixels dynamically by Huffman compression where different pseudo codes are generated for different chunk of secret bits which are embedded by Bit-Reversal Permutation (BRP) and X-OR operations. Finally, pixels are interchanged between the dual images based on odd-even properties of the pixel values. The functional efficiency of the proposed scheme is evaluated by comparing the relevant parameters of different state-of-the-art schemes. It is established that the proposed scheme provides more than 64 dB PSNR value on average after embedding a maximum of 3, 27, 680 bits of secret data which ensures good visual quality and high embedding capacity as compared to other state-of-the-art schemes thereby benefitting innumerable applications across public and private sectors. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
