Radiotherapy (RT) could have significant impact on quality of life (QoL) in cancer patient. The aim of the study is to evaluate Radiation Treatment impact on daily activities in cancer patient using wearable devices technologies to monitor patients in their daily activities. Objective data were collected over RT time and a dedicated in-house algorithm was designed to recognize and analyze several repeated activity windows (RAWs) during days based on the intensity of the subject's activity (steps walked) and the duration of such activity (minutes). Subjective patient reported outcomes (PROs) were collected in the form of an answer scoring to a dedicated questionnaire. Unsupervised machine learning approach (K-means) was used to cluster RAWs over RT time for each patient. 9–18 RAWs were counted in a day per patient, by the conducted analysis. Four RAWs clusters were found characterized by a variation in their parameters. The analysis of the clusters' parameters showed that subjects' activity level could be corelated with the variation in the subjective PRO providing indicators of the RT treatment impact on the patients' QoL. QoL variation evaluation could be improved by blending the objective data collected via a continuous patient monitoring with the powerful information coming from the PRO.

Heterogeneous Parallel Island Models (HePIMs) run different bio-inspired algorithms (BAs) in their islands. From a variety of communication topologies and migration policies fine-tuned for homogeneous PIMs (HoPIMs), which run the same BA in all their islands, previous work introduced HePIMs that provided competitive quality solutions regarding the best-adapted BA in HoPIMs. This work goes a step forward, maintaining the population diversity provided by HePIMs, and increasing their flexibility, allowing BA reconfiguration on islands during execution: according to their performance, islands may substitute their BAs dynamically during the evolutionary process. Experiments with the introduced architectures (RecHePIMs) were applied to the NP-hard problem of sorting permutations by reversals, using four different BAs, namely, simple Genetic Algorithm (GA), Double-point crossover Genetic Algorithm (GAD), Differential Evolution (DE), and self-adjusting Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The results showed that the new reconfigurable heterogeneous models compute better quality solutions than the HePIMs closing the gap with the HoPIM running the best-adapted BA. © 2022, CC BY.

Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) aims to establish communication between humans and computers in a more natural way. The main aim of this study is to build hardware-based automatic speech recognition for Indigenous People (IP)'s ancestral dialects, in particular for Manobo, Mandaya, and B'laan using Raspberry Pi. Jasper is an open source toolkit used for creating voice-activated, always-on applications. The researcher recording audio data from research participants, the study's participants will be located in Davao Occidental and Sarangani for B'laan, Agusan Del Sur for Manobo, and Davao Oriental for Mandaya. A functional microphone and raspberry pi boards serve as the experiment's hardware where audi o input is being fine-tuned from a raspberry pi-powered device that records audio in waveform format, which includes Mandaya, Manobo, and Malita words and phrases. The Tensorflow STFT technique will be used to analyze, generate, transform, and characterize audio signals. JiWER plugins for Similarity measures will also be used The WER output is 98.53 % , an acceptable percentage for the number of datasets used

Single photon detection is important for a wide range of low-light applications, including quantum information processing, spectroscopy, and light detection and ranging (LiDAR). A key challenge in these applications has been to integrate single-photon detection capability into photonic circuits for the realization of complex photonic microsystems. Short-wavelength (λ 6% for wavelengths of 488 nm and 532 nm with an excess voltage less than 20% of the breakdown voltage. The dark count rate was below 100 kHz at room temperature, with the possibility of improving by approximately 35% by reducing the temperature to -5◦C. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Translucency is one of the major appearance attributes. Apparent translucency is impacted by various factors including object shape and geometry. Despite general proposals that object shape and geometry have a significant effect on apparent translucency, no quantification has been made so far. Quantifying and modeling the impact of geometry, as well as comprehensive understanding of the translucency perception process, are a point of not only academic, but also industrial interest with 3D printing as an example among many. We hypothesize that a presence of thin areas in the object facilitates material translucency estimation and changes in material properties have larger impact on apparent translucency of the objects with thin areas. computergenerated images of objects with various geometry and thickness have been used for a psychophysical experiment in order to quantify apparent translucency difference between objects while varying material absorption and scattering properties. Finally, absorption and scattering difference thresholds where the human visual system starts perceiving translucency difference need to be identified and its consistency needs to be analyzed across different shapes and geometries. © 2019 Society for Imaging science and Technology.

In this paper, we develop a nonconservative kinetic framework to be applied to the study of immune system dysregulation. From the modeling viewpoint, the model regards a system composed of stochastically interacting agents, under the action of an eternal force field. According to the application perspectives of this paper, the external force field has a specific analytical shape. In this case, some analytical results are proved, i.e. existence, uniqueness, positivity, and boundedness of solution of the related Cauchy problem, at least locally in time. Then, the model is refined to be implemented for the study of treatment strategies in case of autoimmune response. Specifically, we distinguish the autonomous case from the nonautonomous one, representing the absence or delivery of drugs, respectively. The former allows us to gain some stability results. Sentiment analysis is an essential component of natural language processing, used to analyze sentiments, attitudes, and emotional tones in various contexts. It provides valuable insights into public opinion, customer feedback, and user experiences. Researchers have developed various classical machine learning and neuro-fuzzy approaches to address the exponential growth of data and the complexity of language structures in sentiment analysis. However, these approaches often fail to determine the optimal number of clusters, interpret results accurately, handle noise or outliers efficiently, and scale effectively to high-dimensional data. Additionally, they are frequently insensitive to input variations. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid approach for sentiment analysis called the Quantum Fuzzy Neural Network (QFNN), which leverages quantum properties and incorporates a fuzzy layer to overcome the limitations of classical sentiment analysis algorithms. In this study, we test the proposed approach on two Twitter datasets: the Coronavirus Tweets Dataset (CVTD) and the General Sentimental Tweets Dataset (GSTD), and compare it with classical and hybrid algorithms. The results demonstrate that QFNN outperforms all classical, quantum, and hybrid algorithms, achieving 100% and 90% accuracy in the case of CVTD and GSTD, respectively. Furthermore, QFNN demonstrates its robustness against six different noise models, providing the potential to tackle the computational complexity associated with sentiment analysis on a large scale in a noisy environment. The proposed approach expedites sentiment data processing and precisely analyses different forms of textual data, thereby enhancing sentiment classification and insights associated with sentiment analysis. © 2024, CC BY.

Queuing theory has been extensively used in the modelling and performance analysis of cloud computing systems. The phenomenon of the task (or request) reneging, that is, the dropping of requests from the request queue often occur in cloud computing systems, and it is important to consider it when developing performance evaluations models for cloud computing infrastructures. Majority of studies in the performance evaluation of cloud computing data centres with the use of queuing theory do not consider the fact that the tasks could be removed from queue without being serviced. The removal of tasks from the queue could be due to the user impatience, execution deadline expiration, security reasons, or as an active queue management strategy. The reneging could be correlated in nature, that is, if a request is dropped (or reneged) at any time epoch, and then there is a probability that a request may or may not be dropped at the next time epoch. This kind of dropping (or reneging) of requests is referred to as correlated request reneging. In this paper we have modelled a cloud computing infrastructure with correlated request reneging using queuing theory. An M/M/1/N queuing model with correlated reneging has been used to study the performance analysis of the load balancing server of a cloud computing system. The steady-state as well as the transient performance analyses have been carried out. Important measures of performance like a vera ge queue size, average delay, probability of task blocking, and the probability of no waiting in the queue are studied. Finally, some comparisons are performed which describe the effect of correlated task reneging over simple exponential reneging. © 2021 institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Logical argumentation is a well-known approach to modelling nonmonotonic reasoning with conflicting information. In this paper we provide a proof-theoretic study of properties of logical argumentation frameworks. Given some desiderata in terms of rationality postulates, we consider the conditions that an argumentation framework should fulfill for the desiderata to hold. The rationality behind this approach is to assist designers to "plug-in" pre-defined formalisms according to actual needs. This work extends related research on the subject in several ways: more postulates are characterized, a more abstract notion of arguments is considered, and it is shown how the nature of the attack rules (subset attacks versus direct attacks) affects the properties of the whole setting. © FLAIRS *** right reserved.

The security of the commonly used face recognition algorithms is often doubted, as they appear vulnerable to so-called presentation attacks. While there are a number of detection methods that are using different light spectra to detect these attacks this is the first work to explore skin properties using the ultraviolet spectrum. Our multi-sensor approach consists of learning features that appear in the comparison of two images, one in the visible and one in the ultraviolet spectrum. We use brightness and keypoints as features for training, experimenting with different learning strategies. We present the results of our evaluation on our novel Face UV PAD database. The results of our method are evaluated in an leave-one-out comparison, where we achieved an APCER/BPCER of 0%/0.2%. The results obtained indicate that UV images in presentation attack detection include useful information that are not easy to overcome.
