A search for charged-lepton-flavor violating μτqt (q=u, c) interactions is presented, considering both top-quark production and decay. The data analyzed correspond to 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis targets events containing two muons with the same electric charge, a hadronically decaying τ-lepton and at least one jet, with exactly one b-tagged jet, produced by a μτqt interaction. Agreement with the Standard Model expectation within 1.6 standard deviations is observed, and limits are set at the 95% confidence level (CL) on the charged-lepton-flavor violation branching ratio of B(t→μτq)<8.7×10−7. An effective field theory interpretation is performed yielding 95% CL limits on Wilson coefficients, dependent on the flavor of the associated light quark and the Lorentz structure of the coupling. These range from |clequ3(2313)|/Λ2<0.10 TeV−2 for μτut to |clequ1(2323)|/Λ2<1.8 TeV−2 for μτct. An additional interpretation is performed for scalar leptoquark production inducing charged-lepton-flavor violation, with fixed intergenerational couplings. Upper limits on leptoquark coupling strengths are set at the 95% CL, ranging from λLQ=1.3 to λLQ=3.7 for leptoquark masses between 0.5 and 2.0 TeV.

A search for the nonresonant production of Higgs boson pairs in the HH→bb¯τ+τ− channel is performed using 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The analysis strategy is optimized to probe anomalous values of the Higgs boson self-coupling modifier κλ and of the quartic HHVV (V=W,Z) coupling modifier κ2V. No significant excess above the expected background from Standard Model processes is observed. An observed (expected) upper limit μHH<5.9(3.3) is set at 95% confidence-level on the Higgs boson pair production cross section normalized to its Standard Model prediction. The coupling modifiers are constrained to an observed (expected) 95% confidence interval of −3.1<κλ<9.0 (−2.5<κλ<9.3) and −0.5<κ2V<2.7 (−0.2<κ2V<2.4), assuming all other Higgs boson couplings are fixed to the Standard Model prediction. The results are also interpreted in the context of effective field theories via constraints on anomalous Higgs boson couplings and Higgs boson pair production cross sections assuming different kinematic benchmark scenarios.

The discovery of high-energy cosmic neutrinos has raised great interest in the field of neutrino astronomy. The KM3NeT/ARCA detector is currently under construction at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea and is measuring high-energy neutrinos. The complete detector will instrument a cubic kilometre of seawater with photomultiplier tubes that detect the Cherenkov radiation from the products of neutrino interactions. The design is focused on discovering high-energy neutrino sources which requires an excellent angular resolution. This contribution covers the reconstruction algorithms deployed in the full KM3NeT/ARCA detector and their performances. The angular resolution reaches below 0.1◦ for tracks and below 1◦ for cascades and double cascades that originate from tau neutrinos. The KM3NeT/ARCA neutrino detector is currently under construction at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The main science objective is the detection of high-energy cosmic neutrinos and the discovery of their sources. This is achieved by instrumenting a cubic kilometre of seawater with photo-multiplier tubes that detect Cherenkov radiation from neutrino interaction products. In recent years, there have been advancements in the reconstruction algorithms for muon neutrinos, along with the development of techniques for identifying and accurately reconstructing electron and tau neutrinos. This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V=W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb¯. Dominant backgrounds from multijet production are determined directly from the data, and a likelihood fit to the jet mass distribution of Higgs boson candidates is used to extract the number of signal events. The VH production cross section is measured inclusively and differentially in several ranges of Higgs boson transverse momentum: 250–450, 450–650, and greater than 650 GeV. The inclusive signal yield relative to the standard model expectation is observed to be μ=1.4−0.9+1.0 and the corresponding cross section is 3.1±1.3(stat)−1.4+1.8(syst) pb.

A search for a new Z′ gauge boson predicted by Lμ−Lτ models, based on charged-current Drell–Yan production, pp→W±(*)→Z′μ±ν→μ±μ∓μ±ν, is presented. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1 of proton–proton collisions at s=13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The search examines a final state of 3μ plus large missing transverse momentum. Upper limits are set on the Z′ production cross section times branching ratio in the mass range of 5–81 GeV. After combining with the previous Z′ search using the neutral-current Drell–Yan production with a 4μ final state, the most stringent exclusion limits to date are achieved in the parameter space of the Z′ coupling strength and mass.

A search is performed for localized excesses in the low-mass dijet invariant mass distribution, targeting a hypothetical new particle decaying into two jets and produced in association with either a high transverse momentum photon or a jet. The search uses the full Run 2 data sample from LHC proton-proton collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV during 2015–2018. Two variants of the search are presented for each type of initial-state radiation: one that makes no jet flavor requirements and one that requires both of the jets to have been identified as containing b-hadrons. No excess is observed relative to the Standard Model prediction, and the data are used to set upper limits on the production cross section for a benchmark Z′ model and, separately, for generic, beyond the Standard Model scenarios which might produce a Gaussian-shaped contribution to dijet invariant mass distributions. The results extend the current constraints on dijet resonances to the mass range between 200 and 650 GeV.

A measurement of the top quark pair-production cross section in the lepton+jets decay channel is presented. It is based on 4.6 fb−1 of s=7 TeV pp collision data collected during 2011 by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. A three-class, multidimensional event classifier based on support vector machines is used to differentiate tt¯ events from backgrounds. The tt¯ production cross section is found to be σtt¯=168.5±0.7(stat) −5.9+6.2(syst) −3.2+3.4(lumi) pb. The result is consistent with the Standard Model prediction based on QCD calculations at next-to-next-to-leading order.

A search for exclusive two-photon production via photon exchange in proton-proton collisions, pp→pγγp with intact protons, is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 9.4 fb−1 collected in 2016 using the CMS and TOTEM detectors at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the LHC. Events are selected with a diphoton invariant mass above 350 GeV and with both protons intact in the final state, to reduce backgrounds from strong interactions. The events of interest are those where the invariant mass and rapidity calculated from the momentum losses of the forward-moving protons match the mass and rapidity of the central, two-photon system. No events are found that satisfy this condition. Interpreting this result in an effective dimension-8 extension of the standard model, the first limits are set on the two anomalous four-photon coupling parameters. If the other parameter is constrained to its standard model value, the limits at 95% confidence level are |ζ1|<2.9×10−13 GeV−4 and |ζ2|<6.0×10−13 GeV−4.

A search for pairs of Higgs bosons produced via gluon and vector boson fusion is presented, focusing on the four b quark final state. The data sample consists of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. No deviation from the background-only hypothesis is observed. A 95% confidence level upper limit on the Higgs boson pair production cross section is observed at 3.9 times the standard model prediction for an expected value of 7.8. Constraints are also set on the modifiers of the Higgs field self-coupling, κλ, and of the coupling of two Higgs bosons to two vector bosons, κ2 V. The observed (expected) allowed intervals at the 95% confidence level are −2.3<κλ<9.4 (−5.0<κλ<12.0) and −0.1<κ2 V<2.2 (−0.4<κ2 V<2.5). These are the most stringent observed constraints to date on the HH production cross section and on the κ2 V coupling.
