PriChain: Efficient Privacy-Preserving Fine-Grained Redactable Blockchains in Decentralized Settings

Recently, redactable blockchain has been proposed and leveraged in a wide range of real systems for its unique properties of decentralization, traceability, and transparency while ensuring controllable on-chain data redaction. However, the development of redactable blockchain is now obstructed by three limitations, which are data privacy breaches, high communication overhead, and low searching efficiency, respectively. In this paper, we propose PriChain, the first efficient privacy-preserving fine-grained redactable blockchain in decentralized settings. PriChain provides data owners with rights to control who can read and redact on-chain data while maintaining downward compatibility, ensuring the one who can redact will be able to read. Specifically, inspired by the concept of multi-authority attribute-based encryption, we utilize the isomorphism of the access control tree, realizing fine-grained redaction mechanism, downward compatibility, and collusion resistance. With the newly designed structure, PriChain can realize O（n） communication and storage overhead compared to prior O（n2） schemes. Furthermore, we integrate multiple access trees into a tree-based dictionary, optimizing searching efficiency. Theoretical analysis proves that PriChain is secure against the chosen-plaintext attack and has competitive complexity. The experimental evaluations show that PriChain realizes 10× efficiency improvement of searching and 100× lower communication and storage overhead on average compared with existing schemes.

Using DTL-MD with GANs and ResNet for Malicious Code Detection

This study proposes a malicious code detection model DTL-MD based on deep transfer learning, which aims to improve the detection accuracy of existing methods in complex malicious code and data scarcity. In the feature extraction process, the weighted sum method of GIST and LBP features is used to combine the advantages of the two features. Online transfer learning is used to reduce the data distribution difference between the target domain and the source domain. The model uses ResNet50V2 as the backbone network and combines SimAM to enhance the feature extraction and representation capabilities. In addition, in order to further improve the robustness of detection, GAN is used to generate malicious code variants and expand the training data set. In the experiment, the public CICIDS 2017 data set is used for model training and testing. The performance test results show that when the threshold is 0.7, the accuracy of DTL-MD is 95.8% and the F1 score is 0.93. In a performance test involving 30,000 samples, the throughput of the DTL-MD model under Trojans, viruses, worms, and adware is 11, 12, 11, and 12 tasks/s, respectively, and the inference time is 211, 225, 239, and 234 samples/s, respectively. Compared with GAN, DTL-MD increases the throughput by about 10% and the inference speed by about 15%. The research aims to provide new ideas for improving the intelligence and automation level of malicious code detection technology, which has certain application value and practical significance. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. Image-based rice leaf disease detection using CNN and generative adversarial network

Rice is a major crop and staple food for more than half of the world’s population and plays a vital role in ensuring food security as well as the global economy pests and diseases pose a threat to the production of rice and have a substantial impact on the yield and quality of the crop. In recent times, deep learning methods have gained prominence in predicting rice leaf diseases. Despite the increasing use of these methods, there are notable limitations in existing approaches. These include a scarcity of extensive and diverse collections of leaf disease images, lower accuracy rates, higher time complexity, and challenges in real-time leaf disease detection. To address the limitations, we explicitly investigate various data augmentation approaches using different generative adversarial networks (GANs) for rice leaf disease detection. Along with the GAN model, advanced CNN-based classifiers have been applied to classify the images with improving data augmentation. Our approach involves employing various GANs to generate high-quality synthetic images. This strategy aims to tackle the challenges posed by limited and imbalanced datasets in the identification of leaf diseases. The key benefit of incorporating GANs in leaf disease detection lies in their ability to create synthetic images, effectively augmenting the dataset’s size, enhancing diversity, and reducing the risk of overfitting. For dataset augmentation, we used three distinct GAN architectures—namely simple GAN, CycleGAN, and DCGAN. Our experiments demonstrated that models utilizing the GAN-augmented dataset generally outperformed those relying on the non-augmented dataset. Notably, the CycleGAN architecture exhibited the most favorable outcomes, with the MobileNet model achieving an accuracy of 98.54%. Advancing mental health detection in texts via multi-task learning with soft-parameter sharing transformers

In recent years, mental health issues have profoundly impacted individuals’ well-being, necessitating prompt identification and intervention. Existing approaches grapple with the complex nature of mental health, facing challenges like task interference, limited adaptability, and difficulty in capturing nuanced linguistic expressions indicative of various conditions. In response to these challenges, our research presents three novel models employing multi-task learning (MTL) to understand mental health behaviors comprehensively. These models encompass soft-parameter sharing-based long short-term memory with attention mechanism (SPS-LSTM-AM), SPS-based bidirectional gated neural networks with self-head attention mechanism (SPS-BiGRU-SAM), and SPS-based bidirectional neural network with multi-head attention mechanism (SPS-BNN-MHAM). Our models address diverse tasks, including detecting disorders such as bipolar disorder, insomnia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic in psychiatric texts, alongside classifying suicide or non-suicide-related texts on social media as auxiliary tasks. Emotion detection in suicide notes, covering emotions of abuse, blame, and sorrow, serves as the main task. We observe significant performance enhancement in the primary task by incorporating auxiliary tasks. Advanced encoder-building techniques, including auto-regressive-based permutation and enhanced permutation language modeling, are recommended for effectively capturing mental health contexts’ subtleties, semantic nuances, and syntactic structures. We present the shared feature extractor called shared auto-regressive for language modeling (S-ARLM) to capture high-level representations that are useful across tasks. Additionally, we recommend soft-parameter sharing (SPS) subtypes-fully sharing, partial sharing, and independent layer-to minimize tight coupling and enhance adaptability. Our models exhibit outstanding performance across various datasets, achieving accuracies of 96.9%, 97.

Visually enhanced multi-secret sharing scheme with arithmetic modulo, DWT, and particle swarm optimization for Meaningful Shares

Traditional multi-secret sharing (MSS) schemes generate random shares to secure secrets, but their noisy appearance can raise suspicion. To address this, we present an advanced (n+1,n+1) MSS scheme that generates meaningful, high-quality visual shares, reducing the risk of detection by attackers. Our scheme combines arithmetic Modulo, discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and particle swarm optimization (PSO), balancing security and visual appeal. The scheme operates through two main processes: the first involves the generation of randomized shares and the embedding of watermarks in the meaningful share generation process, while the second focuses on the extraction of randomized shares or watermark images from meaningful shares and the reconstruction of the secret during the secret reconstruction process. PSO optimizes embedding factors, achieving an ideal balance between imperceptibility and visual quality, often exceeding that of the meaningful cover images. Quantitative assessments with metrics like correlation, mean squared error (MSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and structural similarity index (SSIM) show marked improvements in both robustness and visual quality of the shared images. A verifiable multi-secret image sharing scheme based on DNA encryption

A multi-secret image sharing (MSIS) scheme facilitates the secure distribution of multiple images among a group of participants. Several MSIS schemes have been proposed with a (n, n) structure that encodes secret input images into n share images. This encoding ensures that if a subset of participants collude, no information about the secret images can be revealed. The secret images can only be recovered if all participants cooperate. Most of these schemes are built using basic Boolean operations, primarily XOR operations. MSIS schemes that rely on Boolean logic offer various benefits compared to other methods, such as the ability to recover data without any loss, no increase in pixel size, and efficient computation. This article presents a verifiable MSIS scheme that relies on a secure two-variable one-way function and a secure hash function. The scheme allows for independent verification of both the dealer and the participants to detect any cheating attempts. The proposed scheme utilizes the Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) encryption technique to leverage the inherent benefits of DNA computing, such as enhanced security, fast computation, minimal storage needs, and low power usage. The share images produced by the proposed scheme exhibit an average entropy of 7.99, indicating that the generated 8-bit share images are completely random. Additionally, the correlation coefficient is approximately 0.005, suggesting that neighboring pixels in the images are not related to each other. Isomorphic Classification of First Degree Cellular Automata

This paper explores the concept of isomorphism in cellular automata (CAs), focusing on identifying and understanding isomorphic relationships between distinct CAs. A cellular automaton (CA) is said to be isomorphic to another CA if the configuration transition diagrams of the two CAs are identical. To illustrate how isomorphism entails the preservation of structural properties while allowing for variations in state representations, we exhaustively explore the isomorphic reversible rules in the first degree CAs (FDCAs), that is, the simple three-neighborhood CAs represented by eight parameters. The experimental study includes reversible FDCAs for states two to 10 with cell lengths of four to seven under the null boundary condition and states two to seven with cell lengths of four to seven under the periodic boundary condition. Given a CA, we also provide two synthesis methods for identifying the set of CAs that are isomorphic to it. The first method operates by permuting the states of a group of CA cell locations, whereas the second method involves exchanging cells at various points. We demonstrate that, depending on the range of exchanged cell positions, the isomorphic CAs produced in this way may have a bigger neighborhood than the input CA. Finally, we provide an exhaustive classification of the elementary CAs (ECAs) using the first synthesis method and compare it with existing results. © 2025, Complex Systems Publications, Inc. Beyond chat-GPT: a BERT-AO approach to custom question answering system

This work introduces a novel Custom Question Answering (CQA) model leveraging Adam optimized Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT-AO). This model tackles the challenge of combining textual and visual information for accurate question answering. The core concept lies in understanding the intricate relationships between words in text and the visual features within images. The proposed CQA model with BERT-AO incorporates separate branches for processing text (BERT-AO) and images (CNN), both utilizing self-attention mechanisms. This enables a deeper understanding of context within both textual and visual data. Training is conducted on a comprehensive dataset encompassing factual, open-ended questions, answers, and images, providing a strong foundation for the model’s learning process. The performance of the proposed CQA Model with BERT-AO attains 20.46%, 36.86%, 43.98%, 19.97%, and 17.604% higher accuracy and 27.42%, 41.56%, 42.78%, 18.72% and 16.15% higher F-Score value compared with existing methods like Enhancing Bridge Inspection Visual Question Answering via Pre-Training with External Image-Text Data (VLP), LOIS: Exploring Instance Semantics for Visual Question Answering (LOIS), Bidirectional Multimodal Attention Networks for Visual Question Answering (BiGAN), A Pairwise Attention Framework with Word and Sentence Embedding for Visual Question Answering (DALNet-WSE) and Enhanced GNN Focused Attention and Hybridized Optimization Approach for Visual Inquiry Resolution (GNN-SA-MRFO) respectively.
