This paper investigates the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) theory in all-optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) optical fibre communication systems. We find out that phase pre-emphasis could effectively reduce PAPR in all-optical OFDM communication systems which employ intensity modulation-direct detection (IM-DD) method. An equation is developed and proposed to calculate suitable phasing values for pre-emphasis. Furthermore, we find out that phase pre-emphasis cannot reduce PAPR effectively in all-optical OFDM systems that employ Phase Shift Keying (PSK) or Quadracture Amplitude Modulation (QAM) method.

We report a novel system for highly stable 100 MHz mode locked pulse as a reference frequency signal transfer through a round trip 20 km urban fiber link. An electronic approach for compensating the fluctuations introduced by the link is proposed and implemented. The rms phase fluctuation was reduced from 75 mrad (118 ps) to 4 mrad (6.3 ps) in 48 hours, and the frequency stability was improved by three orders of magnitude in the measurement time.

In recent years, Identity Management (IdM) has gained a lot of attention in industry, standardisation and academia. In particular, a couple of research projects, like Daidalos or Prime, have invested considerable effort to bring IdM forward, to take advantage of features like improved usability and security. Nevertheless, there are important issues that have not been addressed so far. The SWIFT project leverages IdM as a key technology of the Future Internet, tackling problems like the integration of the network and application layer from an IdM perspective as well as the use of electronic identity cards. Moreover, aspects like the integration of several user devices, backward compatibility and a new access control infrastructure are required by future IdM solutions. We consider all these aspects by extending existing IdM solutions with six new security and privacy enablers that are part of the overall SWIFT framework. These enablers have been partially implemented towards a new IdM architecture. First evaluation results of the implementation are promising to pave the way towards future IdM solutions.

In this paper, a new Complexity Scalable Motion Estimation (CSME) method is proposed which can perform Motion Estimation adaptively under different computation or power budgets while keeping high coding performance. We first propose to use a new class-based method to measure the Macroblock (MB) importance. Based on the new MB importance measure, a complete CSME framework is then proposed. The proposed method allocates computation in a one-pass flow and is based on a loose strategy where frames can borrow computation from other frames to achieve better performance under the same computation budget. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can allocate computation more accurately than previous methods.
