This paper explores the possibilities of using the combination of the state of the art nonlinear programming problem solver IPOPT and the initial value problem solver CVODES (incorporated in SUNDIALS) for the solution of dynamic optimization problems, also regarded as open loop optimal control problems (OCP). Recent works confirm the potential of IPOPT in solving large scale optimization problems and particularly in solving optimal control problems in the framework of the complete parameterization approach [12]. Here the OCP problems are solved using the control vector parameterization scheme and the advantages and disadvantages of the combination CVP + IPOPT + CVODES are evaluated through several examples.

Aiming at the difficulty of designing weighting matrices for linear quadratic regulator (LQR), a multi-objective evolution algorithm (MOEA) based approach is proposed. The LQR weighting matrices, state feedback control rate and optimal controller are obtained by means of establishing the multi-objective optimization model of LQR weighting matrices and applying MOEA to it, which makes control system meet multiple performance indexes simultaneously. controller of double inverted pendulum system is designed using the proposed approach. Simulation results show that it has shorter adjusting time, smaller amplitude value deviating from steady-state than the pole assignment LQR weighting matrices design approach. So the validity of the proposed approach is confirmed.

The simultaneous localization and learning (SLL) is an indoor localization technique based on existent radio communication networks. It originally takes received signal strength (RSS) as measured feature, used as input on an adaptive and iterative process based on Kohonen self organizing maps (SOMs) in order to learn and improve a feature map. The present paper points the main characteristics from both SLL and SOM, their differences and similarities. The somewhat generic formulation for SOMs acquire physical meanings with SLL that act as a constrainment, making the SLL a very particular case of SOM. The proofs for one dimensional SOMs are complemented by the proofs presented for the SLL by the authors in previous articles.

This note concerns the delay-dependent robust stability analysis for uncertain singular time-delay systems. The parameter uncertainty is assumed to be norm-bounded and possibly time-varying, while the time delay considered here is assumed to be constant but unknown. By using a new Lyapunov-krasovskii functional which splits the whole delay interval into two subintervals and defines a different energy function on each subinterval, some delay-dependent conditions are presented for the singular time-delay system to be regular, impulse free and robustly stable. The obtained delay-dependent criteria are effective and less conservative than previous ones, which are illustrated by numerical examples.

By using a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional that splits the whole delay interval into two subintervals and defines a different energy function on each subinterval and introducing some free-weighting matrices, some new delay-dependent robustly absolute stability criteria are presented in terms of strict linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Microstructure, hardness and mechanical properties of the ICr5Mo steel tubes for the coking furnace at super temperature were investigated in this paper. It revealed that under super-temperature, oxidation corrosion for the furnace tubes was strengthened, wall thickness was evident thinner, pearlite in microstructure was spheroidised mostly, strength would be decreased and marked degradation in material occurred.
