The production of J/ψ mesons in jets is studied in the forward region of protonproton collisions using data collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The fraction of the jet transverse momentum carried by the J/ψ meson, z(J/ψ) ≡ pT(J/ψ)/pT(jet), is measured using jets with pT(jet) > 20 GeV in the pseudorapidity range 2.5 T fraction carried by prompt J/ψ mesons in jets at any experiment. The production of J/ψ mesons is studied in proton-lead collisions at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair √sNN = 8.16 TeV with the LHCb detector at the LHC. The double differential cross-sections of prompt and nonprompt J/ψ production are measured as a function of the J/ψ transverse momentum and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass frame. Forward-to-backward ratios and nuclear modification factors are determined. The results are compared with theoretical calculations based on collinear factorisation using nuclear parton distribution functions, on the colour glass condensate or on coherent energy loss models. A search for baryon-number-violating Ξb0 oscillations is performed with a sample of pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1. The baryon number at the moment of production is identified by requiring that the Ξb0 come from the decay of a resonance Ξb∗− → Ξb0π− or Ξb0− → Ξb0π−, and the baryon number at the moment of decay is identified from the final state using the decays Ξb0 → Ξc+π−, Ξc+ → pK−π+. No evidence of baryon number violation is found, and an upper limit at the 95% confidence level is set on the oscillation rate of ω −1, where ω is the associated angular frequency. We report on a measurement of the flavor-specific Bs0 lifetime and of the Ds− lifetime using proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to 3.0 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. Approximately 407 000 Bs0 → Ds(∗)−µ+νµ decays are partially reconstructed in the K+K−π−µ+ final state. The Bs0 and Ds− natural widths are determined using, as a reference, kinematically similar B0 → D(∗)−µ+νµ decays reconstructed in the same final state. The resulting differences between widths of Bs0 and B0 mesons and of Ds− and D− mesons are ∆Γ(B) = −0.0115 ± 0.0053 (stat) ± 0.0041 (syst) ps−1 and ∆Γ(D) = 1.0131 ± 0.0117 (stat) ± 0.0065 (syst) ps−1, respectively. Combined with the known B0 and D− lifetimes, these yield the flavor-specific Bs0 lifetime, τBfs0 = 1.547 ± 0.013 (stat) ± 0.010 (syst) ± 0.004 (τB ) ps and the Ds− lifetime, τDs− = s 0.5064±0.0030 (stat)±0.0017 (syst)±0.0017 (τD ) ps. The last uncertainties originate from the limited knowledge of the B0 and D− lifetimes. The results improve upon current determinations. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A study of Bs0 → ηcφ and Bs0 → ηcπ+π− decays is performed using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1, collected with the LHCb detector in Run 1 of the LHC. The observation of the decay Bs0 → ηcφ is reported, where the ηc meson is reconstructed in the pp¯, K+K−π+π−, π+π−π+π− and K+K−K+K− decay modes and the φ(1020) in the K+K− decay mode. The decay Bs0 → J/ψφ is used as a normalisation channel. Evidence is also reported for the decay Bs0 → ηcπ+π−, where the ηc meson is reconstructed in the pp¯ decay mode, using the decay Bs0 → J/ψπ+π− as a normalisation channel. The measured branching fractions are B(Bs0 → ηcφ) = (5.01 ± 0.53 ± 0.27 ± 0.63) × 10−4 , B(Bs0 → ηcπ+π−) = (1.76 ± 0.59 ± 0.12 ± 0.29) × 10−4 , where in each case the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third uncertainty is due to the limited knowledge of the external branching fractions. The observation of the decay Ξb− → J/ψΛK− is reported, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1, collected by the LHCb detector in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The production rate of Ξb− baryons detected in the decay Ξb− → J/ψΛK− is measured relative to that of Λ0b baryons using the decay Λ0b → J/ψΛ. Integrated over the b-baryon transverse momentum pT Ξb − and fΛ0b are the fragmentation fractions of b → Ξb− and b → Λ0b transitions, and B represents the branching fraction of the corresponding b-baryon decay. A search for decays of Bc+ mesons to two charm mesons is performed for the first time using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1, collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The decays considered are Bc+ → D((s∗))+D(∗)0 and Bc+ → D((s∗))+D(∗)0, which are normalised to high-yield B+ → D(+s)D0 decays. The B± meson production asymmetry in pp collisions is measured using B+ → D0π+ decays. The data were recorded by the LHCb experiment during Run 1 of the LHC at centre-of-mass energies of √s = 7 and 8 TeV. The production asymmetries, integrated over transverse momenta in the range 2 T prod(B+, √s = 7 TeV) = (−0.41 ± 0.49 ± 0.10) × 10−2, Aprod(B+, √s = 8 TeV) = (−0.53 ± 0.31 ± 0.10) × 10−2, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These production asymmetries are used to correct the raw asymmetries of B+ → J/ψK+ decays, thus allowing a measurement of the CP asymmetry, ACP(B+ → J/ψK+) = (0.09 ± 0.27 ± 0.07) × 10−2. The ratio of branching fractions R(D∗−) ≡ B(B0 → D∗−τ+ντ)/B(B0 → D∗−µ+νµ) is measured using a data sample of proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1. The τ lepton is reconstructed with three charged pions in the final state. A novel method is used that exploits the different vertex topologies of signal and backgrounds to isolate samples of semitauonic decays of b hadrons with high purity. Using the B0 →D∗−π+π−π+ decay as the normalization channel, the ratio B(B0 → D∗−τ+ντ)/B(B0 → D∗−π+π−π+) is measured to be 1.97±0.13±0.18, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. An average of branching fraction measurements for the normalization channel is used to derive B(B0 → D∗−τ+ντ) = (1.42 ± 0.094 ± 0.129 ± 0.054)%, where the third uncertainty is due to the limited knowledge of B(B0 → D∗−π+π−π+). A test of lepton flavor universality is performed using the well-measured branching fraction B(B0 → D∗−µ+νµ) to compute R(D∗−) = 0.291 ± 0.019 ± 0.026 ± 0.013, where the third uncertainty originates from the uncertainties on B(B0 → D∗−π+π−π+) and B(B0 → D∗−µ+νµ). The ratios of the branching fractions of the decays Λ+c → pπ−π+, Λ+c → pK−K+, and Λ+c → pπ−K+ with respect to the Cabibbo-favoured Λ+c → pK−π+ decay are measured using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb experiment at a 7 TeV centre-of-mass energy and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1: B(Λ+c → pπ−π+) B(Λ+c → pK−π+) = (7.44 ± 0.08 ± 0.18) %, B(Λ+c → pK−K+) B(Λ+c → pK−π+) = (1.70 ± 0.03 ± 0.03) %, B(Λ+c → pπ−K+) B(Λ+c → pK−π+) = (0.165 ± 0.015 ± 0.005) %, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These results are the most precise measurements of these quantities to date. When multiplied by the world-average value for B(Λ+c → pK−π+), the corresponding branching fractions are B(Λ+c → pπ−π+) = (4.72 ± 0.05 ± 0.11 ± 0.25) × 10−3, B(Λ+c → pK−K+) = (1.08 ± 0.02 ± 0.02 ± 0.06) × 10−3, B(Λ+c → pπ−K+) = (1.04 ± 0.09 ± 0.03 ± 0.05) × 10−4, where the final uncertainty is due to B(Λ+c → pK−π+).
