A fully integrated low-noise amplifier (LNA) with 0.4V supply voltage and ultra low power consumption at 1.5GHz by folded cascode structure is presented. The proposed LNA is designed in a TSMC 0.18 μm CMOS technology, in which all transistors are biased in subthreshold region. Through the use of proposed circuit for gain enhancement in this structure and using forward body bias technique, a very high figure of merit is achieved, in comparison to similar structures. The LNA provides a power gain of 14.7dB with a noise figure of 2.9dB while consuming only 790μW dc power. Also, impedance matching of input and output of the circuit in its operating frequency is desirable and in the whole bandwidth of the circuit, input and output isolation is below -33dB.

In this contribution two different disciplines for designing microphone array beamformers are explored. On the one hand a fixed beamformer based on numerical near field optimization is employed. On the other hand an adaptive beamformer algorithm based on the linearly constrained minimum variance (LCMV) method is applied. For the evaluation, an audio-database for microphone array impulse responses and audio recordings (speech and noise) was created. Different acoustic scenarios were constructed, consisting of various audio sources (desired speaker, interfering speaker and directional noise) distributed around the microphone array at different angles and distances. The algorithms were compared based on both objective measure (signal-to-noise, signal-to- interference and speech distortion, and subjective tests (assessment of sonograms and informal listening tests). © 2012 IEEE.

The paper presents a simulator of 3D systems for ultrasound transmission tomography. Generation of synthetic data is needed for development of image reconstruction techniques for such systems. Currently available methods for realistic simulation are computationally not feasible for large simulation volume. Therefore we present a simulation tool based on straight-ray approximation, which enables simulation of the imaging process in 3D ultrasound transmission tomography. The generated data are compared to signals measured using a real system. © 2012 institute of Telecommunica.

We report the results of a joint analysis of data from BICEP2/Keck Array and Planck. BICEP2 and Keck Array have observed the same approximately 400 deg2 patch of sky centered on RA 0 h, Dec. −57.5°. The combined maps reach a depth of 57 nK deg in Stokes Q and U in a band centered at 150 GHz. Planck has observed the full sky in polarization at seven frequencies from 30 to 353 GHz, but much less deeply in any given region (1.2 μK deg in Q and U at 143 GHz). We detect 150×353 cross-correlation in B modes at high significance. We fit the single- and cross-frequency power spectra at frequencies ≥150 GHz to a lensed-ΛCDM model that includes dust and a possible contribution from inflationary gravitational waves (as parametrized by the tensor-to-scalar ratio r), using a prior on the frequency spectral behavior of polarized dust emission from previous Planck analysis of other regions of the sky. We find strong evidence for dust and no statistically significant evidence for tensor modes. We probe various model variations and extensions, including adding a synchrotron component in combination with lower frequency data, and find that these make little difference to the r constraint. Finally, we present an alternative analysis which is similar to a map-based cleaning of the dust contribution, and show that this gives similar constraints. The final result is expressed as a likelihood curve for r, and yields an upper limit r0.05<0.12 at 95% confidence. Marginalizing over dust and r, lensing B modes are detected at 7.0σ significance.

We present optical measurements of an LED module consisting of 98 UV LEDs with an emission wavelength of 395 nm soldered onto a ceramic substrate within an area of 211 mm~2. The module is mounted to a high performance mi-crostructured water cooler. This cooler enables a maximum optical power density of 45.9 W/cm~2 at a forward current of 1350 mA and 447.9 W electrical input power. Further we describe the development of an LED module based on an aluminum substrate with thick film printed insulator and conductor layers and embedded, meander shaped water cooling channels. Numerical and experimental studies with different channel cross-sections are shown. Finally experimental results for this kind of UV LED module with 98 LED chips are presented and compared to the ceramic based module.

We present an improved cooling for a high power density UV LED module for a wavelength of 395 nm. The module consists of 98 LED chips soldered on a thick film printed alumina substrate on an area of 2.11 cm 2 . We investigated cooling by a commercial water cooler as well as by a surface micro cooler developed by our own. Further we describe a technology to replace alumina by aluminum as substrate material. A module consisting of 25 UV LEDs was optically characterized without and with liquid encapsulation. Finally we conducted numerical studies to develop an easily producible, sufficiently powerful, and robust water cooler. Based on the results we present a water cooler design with cooling channels embedded in the aluminum substrate of an LED module, removing the interface between LED substrate and heat sink.

In this video we present a teleoperation system which is capable of solving complex tasks in human-sized wide area environments. The system consists of two mobile teleoperators controlled by two operators, and offers haptic, visual, and auditory feedback. The task examined here, consists of repairing a robot by removing a computer and replacing a defective hard-drive. To cope with the complexity of such a task, we go beyond classical teleoperation by integrating several advanced software algorithms into the system.

Wireless sensor networks using transmit-only sensor nodes are a promising new approach for applications such as environmental monitoring because they can provide high network scalability and long life-time at low cost. But achieving reliable data delivery in a transmit-only network is a challenging problem because there is no feedback channel for reporting lost or damaged packets. Taking a systems approach, this paper identifies three specific error control strategies that are applicable in this design space. The strategies are drawn from the areas of temporal diversity, spatial diversity and coding-based methods. An empirical investigation of these strategies is performed using two case study deployments in indoor and outdoor settings, running from two weeks to several months. In both case studies data replication in successive packets and receiver diversity performed best. In most cases, but not all, coding-based methods offered a poor balance between overhead and efficiency.
