Confidentiality and integrity of information are basic attributes of information security, but the existing access control models cannot unify the both well. A mandatory access control model based on access control concept lattice is proposed in this paper. This model integrates many safe sensitivity labels such as integrity, confidentiality, security category. Thus, mandatory constraints of the access of subject to the object can be realized, and Hasse diagram of lattice can be created automatically, such that security levels of the subject and object in the system can be displayed clearly. © 2011 IEEE.

DNA methylation is critical for normal development and plays important roles in genome organization and transcriptional regulation. Although DNA methyltransferases have been identified, the factors that establish and contribute to genome-wide methylation patterns remain elusive. Here, we report a high-resolution cytosine methylation map of the murine genome modulated by Lsh, a chromatin remodeling family member that has previously been shown to regulate CpG methylation at repetitive sequences. We provide evidence that Lsh also controls genome-wide cytosine methylation at nonrepeat sequences and relate those changes to alterations in H4K4me3 modification and gene expression. Deletion of Lsh alters the allocation of cytosine methylation in chromosomal regions of 50 kb to 2 Mb and, in addition, leads to changes in the methylation profile at the 5' end of genes. Furthermore, we demonstrate that loss of Lsh promotes--as well as prevents--cytosine methylation. Our data indicate that Lsh is an epigenetic modulator that is critical for normal distribution of cytosine methylation throughout the murine genome.

The Large Scale data Facility (LSDF) was started at the Karlsruhe institute of Technology (KIT) end of 2009 to address the growing need for value-added storage services for its data intensive experiments. The main focus of the project is to provide scientific communities producing data collections in the tera to petabyte range with the necessary hardware infrastructure as well as with adequate value-added services and support for the data management, processing, and preservation. In this work we describe the project's infrastructure and services design, as well as its meta data handling. Both community specific meta data schemes, a meta data repository, an application programming interface and a graphical tool for accessing the resources were developed to further support the processing workflows of the partner scientific communities. The analysis workflow of high throughput microscopy images for studying biomedical processes is described in detail. © 2011 IEEE.

Wireless sensor networks generate volumes of scientific observations. However, gathered data is typically not published for use by other scientists. This paper analyses the reasons that so little sensor network data is published online in a usable form, and identifies gaps in currently available publication systems. To address these gaps we present WebSense, a lightweight and configurable web-based tool for sensor network researchers to publish their collected data. The design goals and implementation of WebSense are described and the system is evaluated against the goals. WebSense is available from http://***/ © 2011 IEEE.

We report on trace gas and major atmospheric constituents results obtained by the Vehicle Cabin Atmosphere Monitor (VCAM) following almost two years of operation aboard the International Space Station (ISS). VCAM isan autonomous environmental monitor based on a highly compact gas chromatograph/quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer. It was flown to the International Space Station (ISS) on shuttle mission STS-131 and commenced operations on June 2010. VCAM is capable of providing measurements of both parts-per-billion (ppb) levels of volatile trace-gas constituents, and of the atmospheric major constituents (nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and carbon dioxide) in a space vehicle or station. It is designed to operate autonomously and maintenance-free, approximately once per day, with a self-contained gas supply sufficient for a one-year lifetime. VCAM's performance is sufficient to detect and identify 90% of the target compounds at their 180-day Spacecraft Maximum Allowable Concentration levels. © 2012 by the American institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.

Investigations of High Endurance Asymmetric Phase Change Random Access Memory

Asymmetric PCRAM structure with the upper contact opening at an offset to the bottom contact opening allowed us to improve the thermal distribution within the phase change layer and lower the reset current to 50% that of a conventional symmetrical structure. In terms of endurance, asymmetric cell lasted for 1.1 × 108 cycles which is at least 10X higher than the conventional symmetrical cell. These results were based on Ge2Sb2Te5 as the phase change material. In this paper, we used nitrogen doped Ge2Sb2Te5 [1] instead and the thickness of this phase change layer was 100 nm. During the sputtering of Ge2Sb2Te5, the Argon gas flow rate was fixed at 15 sccm while nitrogen flow rates of 0, 3, 4.5 and 6 sccm were introduced each time. Thus N2/Ar gas ratio of 0, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 were obtained respectively. After fabrication, the cell endurance of Asymmetric PCRAM cells incorporating Ge2Sb2Te5 doped with varying concentrations of nitrogen was tested. During testing, the PCRAM was repeatedly Reset/Set and the resistances of the two states were recorded at every 100k cycles. The cell was considered to be functioning well when its Reset/Set resistance ratio was greater than 10. From experiments, N-doped asymmetric cell with N2/Ar gas ratio of 0.2 lasted 2.4 × 1010 cycles which is 1000 times that of a conventional symmetrical PCRAM cells. The N2 doping concentration was also shown to be optimized when the N2/Ar gas ratio was fixed at 0.2. Higher doping concentrations with N2/Ar gas ratio of 0.3 and 0.4 decreased the cell endurance to 8.8 × 108 and 7.6 × 108 cycles respectively. Excessive doped nitrogen atoms might have degraded the phase change material, causing breakdown to occur sooner. N-doped conventional symmetrical PCRAM was also fabricated and its overwrite cycles were measured only up to 1.2 × 109. With better thermal confinement, asymmetric PCRAM has proved to be better in endurance too. The above results were based on asymmetric PCRAM cells with 1 µm offset. [1] H. Hor

(Figure Presented) Studying transformation in a chemical system by considering its energy as a function of coordinates of the system's components provides insight and changes our understanding of this process. Currently, a lack of effective visualization techniques for high-dimensional energy functions limits chemists to plot energy with respect to one or two coordinates at a time. In some complex systems, developing a comprehensive understanding requires new visualization techniques that show relationships between all coordinates at the same time. We propose a new visualization technique that combines concepts from topological analysis, multi-dimensional scaling, and graph layout to enable the analysis of energy functions for a wide range of molecular structures. MapReduce-based data warehouse systems are playing important roles of supporting big data analytics to understand quickly the dynamics of user behavior trends and their needs in typical Web service providers and social network sites (e.g., Facebook). In such a system, the data placement structure is a critical factor that can affect the warehouse performance in a fundamental way. Based on our observations and analysis of Facebook production systems, we have characterized four requirements for the data placement structure: (1) fast data loading, (2) fast query processing, (3) highly efficient storage space utilization, and (4) strong adaptivity to highly dynamic workload patterns. We have examined three commonly accepted data placement structures in conventional databases, namely row-stores, column-stores, and hybrid-stores in the context of large data analysis using MapReduce. We show that they are not very suitable for big data processing in distributed systems. In this paper, we present a big data placement structure called RCFile (Record Columnar File) and its implementation in the Hadoop system. With intensive experiments, we show the effectiveness of RCFile in satisfying the four requirements. RCFile has been chosen in Facebook data warehouse system as the default option. It has also been adopted by Hive and Pig, the two most widely used data analysis systems developed in Facebook and Yahoo!
