In precision livestock farming, accurate cattle identification is essential for enhancing animal welfare, health monitoring, and productivity, while also supporting traceability and minimizing false insurance claims. This paper presents a novel approach for cattle identification using muzzle prints, with a focus on both efficiency and explainability. Taxicab metric, employed for efficient annotation of muzzle patterns significantly reduces the labeling time for training of YOLOv8 model. YOLOv8 is utilized for detecting muzzle prints in images, followed by SIFT (Scale-Invariant Feature Transform) for feature extraction and matching. The incorporation of Explainable AI (XAI) methods, particularly Grad-CAM, further enhances the transparency and interpretability of the SIFT model. © 2024 IEEE.

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome(HLHS)is a rare,complex,and incredibly foetal congenital heart *** decrease neonatal mortality,evolving HLHS(eHLHS)in pregnant women should be critically diagnosed as soon as ***,diagnosis is currently heavily dependent on skilled medical professionals using foetal cardiac ultrasound images,making it difficult to rapidly and easily examine for this ***,the authors propose a cost-effective deep learning framework for rapid diagnosis of eHLHS(RDeH),which we have named ***,the framework implements a coarseto-fine two-stage detection approach,with a structure classification network for 4D human foetal cardiac ultrasound images from various spatial and temporal domains,and a fine detection module with weakly-supervised localisation for high-precision nidus localisation and physician *** experiments extensively compare the authors’network with other state-of-the-art methods on a 4D human foetal cardiac ultrasound image dataset and show two main benefits:(1)it achieved superior average accuracy of 99.37%on three categories of foetal ultrasound images from different cases;(2)it demonstrates visually fine detection performance with weakly supervised *** framework could be used to accelerate the diagnosis of eHLHS,and hence significantly lessen reliance on experienced medical physicians.

Multi-fidelity physics constrained neural networks for dynamical systems

Physics-constrained neural networks are commonly employed to enhance prediction robustness compared to purely data-driven models, achieved through the inclusion of physical constraint losses during the model training process. However, one of the major challenges of physics-constrained neural networks consists of the training complexity especially for high-dimensional systems. In fact, conventional physics-constrained models rely on singular-fidelity data necessitating the assessment of physical constraints within high-dimensional fields, which introduces computational difficulties. Furthermore, due to the fixed input size of the neural networks, employing multi-fidelity training data can also be cumbersome. In this paper, we propose the Multi-Scale Physics-Constrained Neural Network (MSPCNN), which offers a novel methodology for incorporating data with different levels of fidelity into a unified latent space through a customized multi-fidelity autoencoder. Additionally, multiple decoders are concurrently trained to map latent representations of inputs into various fidelity physical spaces. As a result, during the training of predictive models, physical constraints can be evaluated within low-fidelity spaces, yielding a trade-off between training efficiency and accuracy. In addition, unlike conventional methods, MSPCNN also manages to employ multi-fidelity data to train the predictive model. We assess the performance of MSPCNN in two fluid dynamics problems, namely a two-dimensional Burgers’ system and a shallow water system. Numerical results clearly demonstrate the enhancement of prediction accuracy and noise robustness when introducing physical constraints in low-fidelity fields. On the other hand, as expected, the training complexity can be significantly reduced by computing physical constraint loss in the low-fidelity field rather than the high-fidelity one. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

This paper investigates the secrecy capacity optimization in RF/FSO systems with mixed Rayleigh and log-normal fading, while masking eavesdroppers channel state information () as well as suffering from atmospheric turbulence. We explore the impact of several parameters including beamforming angles, modulation schemes and hybrid RF/FSO link configurations through a combination of simulations as well as analytical models. Secrecy capacity is enhanced for an improved SNR and vice versa under higher turbulence conditions and cooler influents eavesdropped scenarios. Performance of the hybrid RF/FSO systems dominates considerably over single-link solutions, especially at longer distances. All these mechanisms appreciably increase the secrecy capacity, while beamforming and advanced modulation techniques offer most of the improvement. The study also demonstrates the interdependencies of system parameters, providing guidelines for designing secure communication systems under different environmental and operational conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

Continual learning aims to progressively acquire new knowledge while retaining previously learned information, addressing the challenge of catastrophic forgetting. This paper introduces a novel continual learning method, called SPrint, which is the first research effort to devise the principles of self-paced learning for solving continual learning problems. SPrint dynamically adapts the complexity of samples for both new and previous tasks in response to the model’s current learning capacity. It employs a self-paced loss function for sampling new tasks and a forgetting occurrence for sampling previous tasks with replay memory. Through extensive empirical evaluation, we demonstrate that SPrint consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods in various continual learning benchmarks. Importance. Medical images are essential for modern medicine and an important research subject in visualization. However,medical experts are often not aware of the many advanced three-dimensional (3D) medical image visualization techniques thatcould increase their capabilities in data analysis and assist the decision-making process for specific medical problems. Ourpaper provides a review of 3D visualization techniques for medical images, intending to bridge the gap between medicalexperts and visualization researchers. Highlights. Fundamental visualization techniques are revisited for various medicalimaging modalities, from computational tomography to diffusion tensor imaging, featuring techniques that enhance spatialperception, which is critical for medical practices. The state-of-the-art of medical visualization is reviewed based on aprocedure-oriented classification of medical problems for studies of individuals and populations. This paper summarizes freesoftware tools for different modalities of medical images designed for various purposes, including visualization, analysis, andsegmentation, and it provides respective Internet links. Conclusions. Visualization techniques are a useful tool for medicalexperts to tackle specific medical problems in their daily work. Our review provides a quick reference to such techniques giventhe medical problem and modalities of associated medical images. We summarize fundamental techniques and readily availablevisualization tools to help medical experts to better understand and utilize medical imaging data. This paper could contributeto the joint effort of the medical and visualization communities to advance precision medicine.

Prediction of machine failure is challenging as the dataset is often imbalanced with a low failure *** common approach to han-dle classification involving imbalanced data is to balance the data using a sampling approach such as random undersampling,random oversampling,or Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique(SMOTE)*** paper compared the classification performance of three popular classifiers(Logistic Regression,Gaussian Naïve Bayes,and Support Vector Machine)in predicting machine failure in the Oil and Gas *** original machine failure dataset consists of 20,473 hourly data and is imbalanced with 19945(97%)‘non-failure’and 528(3%)‘failure data’.The three independent variables to predict machine failure were pressure indicator,flow indicator,and level *** accuracy of the classifiers is very high and close to 100%,but the sensitivity of all classifiers using the original dataset was close to *** performance of the three classifiers was then evaluated for data with different imbalance rates(10%to 50%)generated from the original data using SMOTE,SMOTE-Support Vector Machine(SMOTE-SVM)and SMOTE-Edited Nearest Neighbour(SMOTE-ENN).The classifiers were evaluated based on improvement in sensitivity and *** showed that the sensitivity of all classifiers increases as the imbalance rate *** with radial basis function(RBF)kernel has the highest sensitivity when data is balanced(50:50)using SMOTE(Sensitivitytest=0.5686,Ftest=0.6927)compared to Naïve Bayes(Sensitivitytest=0.4033,Ftest=0.6218)and Logistic Regression(Sensitivitytest=0.4194,Ftest=0.621).Overall,the Gaussian Naïve Bayes model consistently improves sensitivity and F-measure as the imbalance ratio increases,but the sensitivity is below 50%.The classifiers performed better when data was balanced using SMOTE-SVM compared to SMOTE and SMOTE-ENN.

Soil health is a critical component of agricultural productivity and sustainability. Traditional methods of assessing soil health, including physical sampling and laboratory testing, are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and costly. This paper proposes a novel image-based approach for soil health analysis using deep learning techniques. By utilizing aerial images captured by drones or satellites equipped with multispectral and thermal sensors, the system non-invasively assesses key soil health indicators such as moisture content, nutrient levels, organic matter, and erosion patterns. The proposed method integrates image processing techniques with machine learning models, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), to extract relevant soil features from the images. These CNNs are trained to predict soil health metrics, and the system's performance is evaluated through accuracy, mean squared error (MSE), and F1-score, showing significant improvements over traditional methods. This scalable solution offers a real-time tool for precision agriculture, aiding farmers and agronomists in making informed, data-driven decisions regarding soil health management. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, the performance study of the FPGA-based encoder is delivered and received with little errors given the large number of applications that employ digital communication to store and retrieve data recently. Forward Error Correction units a wireless communication system region that is essential. Several types of encryption methods have been measured, and the error is completely different. CBDC–as-a-problem looks like a mania of interest from central banks and financial institutions all over the world. It may describe CBDC technology and CBDC technology development, the positive aspects of CBDC and its future perspectives as follows: The CBDC is linked to the existing banking systems in the past which was based on the past findings of the blockchain, DLT, etc., that possessed the qualities the previous ones did not have – security, trust, and transparency. Innovation, design and CBDC safety that falls below this paper are discussed in this section below. The paper proceeds to show several paths that central banks are taking to CBDC development given the regulation and changing dynamic of the financial world. However, the studies do not end there; information on the potential of CBDC for financial stability, monetary policy formulation trajectories, transaction privacy, and the role of banks is included. Given that in field of finance the CBDCs are becoming more and more important, this research paper shall ensure to provide consistent background to policymakers, financial institutions and society at large on CBDC and its structural implications. This guarantees that everyone is in the know so it will be possible for them to come up with compliant plans and decisions informed by the knowledge in this changing landscape that simply does not stop evolving.
