Given the inherent rarity observed in imbalanced datasets, adopting one-class classification (OCC) stands out as a pragmatic approach to counteract bias toward the predominant class. This research endeavors to thoroughly assess ten state-of-the-art OCC methodologies across a spectrum of five diverse challenges within the banking, Insurance, and Cybersecurity sectors. Moreover, we introduce an innovative unsupervised learning technique wherein (i) K-Means clustering is utilized during the training phase on negative sample data. To determine the optimal number of clusters, we utilized the Silhouette index and employed the maximum intra-class centroid distance as a cluster-specific threshold. These thresholds play a pivotal role in distinguishing between positive and negative samples. (ii) In the testing phase, a majority voting mechanism is employed to evaluate the discriminative capability of these thresholds, facilitating precise classification of test data. Empirical findings unequivocally demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms several state-of-the-art techniques, achieving superior classification accuracy across four out of the five datasets. This underscores the effectiveness and potential applicability of our novel methodology in tackling the intricate challenges prevalent in the banking, Insurance, and Cybersecurity sectors, particularly in the domains of fraud detection and related areas. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Decentralized exchanges (DEXs) have emerged as a promising solution to enhance trustlessness in blockchain ecosystems and mitigate security threats associated with centralized exchanges. While platforms like Uniswap offer certain advantages, their limitation to exchanging tokens within a single blockchain restricts their utility. Moreover, exchanges relying on atomic swaps, such as AtomicDEX, are susceptible to grief attacks and exhibit low success ratios. In response to these challenges, we introduce FlexiSwap, an auction-based decentralized exchange protocol that leverages atomic swaps for exchanging native tokens between smart contract-compatible blockchains. FlexiSwap stands out by combining multiple bids to facilitate one-to-many exchanges, resulting in improved exchange values, successful execution of large-volume exchanges, and an improved success ratio. The protocol incorporates a penalization mechanism to deter grief attacks, ensuring that participants cannot withdraw from an exchange without incurring a loss once the counterparty has committed its assets. We also prove the protocol's safety, liveness, and grief prevention. Our simulation results demonstrate that combining multiple bids helps achieve better exchange values and order-matching success rates. Additionally, we implemented our protocol on Ethereum-based blockchains. The experimental results show that combining bids increases overall gas usage, but the increase in the average gas user per bid is marginal. © 2025 IEEE.

Iris recognition as an emerging biometric recognition approach and it's becoming a very active topic in both research and practical applications. The pattern of the human iris differs from person to person, even between monocular twins. This paper proposes a modified iris localization method and normalization method In the iris localization after invert the iris image edges are detected by using the canny edge detection. The average of the edge points as taken as coarse center of the pupil. Using coarse center of pupil Circular Hough Transform method is applied to determine the location of the iris boundaries. The normalization is used for converting the circular iris into rectangular form with fixed dimensions. The proposed method is for non-concentric iris. In this paper 2D Log-Gabor Filters are used for feature extraction and hamming distance is used for matching. The experimental result shows the proposed method has an encouraging performance.

Counting the number of cliques in large-scale graphs is a significant problem in graph mining and data mining research communities. Motivated by several studies and applications in the graphs, we revisit the design aspect of some algorithms that compute cliques. We investigate the importance of node order in the context of computing cliques, which benefits several real-world applications. In our work, we develop some scalable distributed algorithms considering the sparsity of a graph for computing cliques. We highlight the merits and demerits of the aforementioned studies that count and list all the cliques in a graph. We compare the best performances in small and large real-world graphs. We highlight the need for careful design to minimize the communication cost involved in computing cliques. We analyze the start-of-the-art methods that consider an order in finding the number of cliques in a graph and establish the significance of order. With extensive experimentation, we show crucial findings on both synthetic and real-world datasets. Our observations and research results significantly benefit the current trending industrial applications using big data. © 2020 International Strategic Management Association. All rights reserved.

Single biometric system has certain inherent problems such as noisy sensor data, non-universality of biometric trait, restricted degrees of freedom and unaccepted error rates. Multibiometric system tries to overcome these problems by providing multiple evidences of the same identity. One other advantage is spoofing of these multibiometrics simultaneously become more difficult for an intruder. In this paper, Iris and Palmprint are the two biometrics used to build multibiometric system. Information presented by these two biometrics is fused to make the system efficient. Here fusion of two modalities is done at the matching score level by using a technique called Sum Rule. This paper presented experimental results of an Iris recognition, Palmprint authentication and Multibiometric system (fusion of Iris and Palmprint). An experimental result shows that the Multimodal biometric system is efficient compared to unimodal biometric system. © 2008 IEEE.

Automatic extraction of important regions from a cheque image helps in automatic analysis of the cheque. It can be used for automated clearing of cheques, detection of frauds in the cheques, and so on. A novel approach of extracting important regions from a cheque image is proposed, in this paper, based on identification of lines. Experimental results demonstrate the success of the proposed approach. © 2015 IEEE.

A qualitative framework for evaluating buffer overflow protection mechanisms

In the last decade, a large number of buffer overflow protection mechanisms have been proposed in the literature. The exponential growth of the Internet has greatly enhanced the chances of a large scale cyber attack. In the absence of a quantitative model to answer the fundamental question in security 'how secure is secure enough?', we propose a qualitative framework based on which we review existing buffer overflow protection mechanisms to better understand their ability to prevent/slowdown a large scale cyber-attack. We use the proposed qualitative framework to evaluate 24 different buffer overflow protection mechanisms and finally conclude with a report card to summarise the security gaps in each of these mechanisms. We believe that this work at the least would serve as a reference to the research community and security practitioners in the software industry. © 2016 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
