In the last few years numerous connected vehicular applications and services have been developed. Most of them reside in the infotainment domain, but safety-critical use cases are within the scope of current realizations. As the performance of the wireless link has a major influence on the applications' reliability and functionality, it is important to consider its characteristics as early as possible during the development process. In the prototyping stage network simulators are powerful tools. Dedicated scenarios can be arranged and repeated as often as needed in a reproducible way. To improve the validity of the simulation results, the wireless link has to be modeled as realistically as possible, considering in particular the data traffic of concurrently active users. By focusing on High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) we present a novel traffic generator, which is realized in the NodeB's scheduler. The traffic generator places additional User Equipments (UE) inside the scheduling process, which produce the desired network load. The number of additional UEs is derived from large sets of in-field client-side throughput measurements producing simulation results, which are very close to reality. The new approach is presented spanning from the modeling of traffic to the final implementation and validation using the network simulator ns-2.

Wireless networks are getting more and more important to industrial process monitoring in control. One of the key challenges in these domains is clock synchronization. Needed to be able to link data gathered on different devices in the network. More recently the idea of wireless closed loop controllers rose. With that even more precise clock synchronization is needed. In this paper we propose a protocol capable of sub-microsecond synchronization and clock drift compensation. The proposed protocol is inspired by the widely used PTP but was optimized for wireless networks. Our real world evaluation indicates, that clock drift is a serious challenge in networks utilizing modern microcontrollers. We also show that our approach is capable of mitigating that drift to reach a competitive degree of synchronicity.

Automated valet parking not only improves driving comfort, but can have a considerable impact on the urban landscape by reducing the required parking space. We present the first study of parking space optimization for automated valet parking with an in-depth theoretical analysis of the parking lot properties under various aspects, inluding the worst-case extraction time, total shunting distance, and the number of shunting operations (each per car). Most importantly, the proposed model bounds all these values. We verify the theoretical properties of our model in four simulated scenarios, one of which is based on real-world data from a downtown parking garage. We show that very good pick-up times of about 1 min are possible with very little overhead in terms of shunting distance and time, while providing a significantly improved parking density as compared to conventional parking lots.

In recent time, the space industry has been undergoing fundamental shifts in paradigms: from few, large satellite buses to many small satellites;from one ground station to many ground stations, from manual telemetry review to an automated treatment;from long in-orbit lifetimes to shorter periods. At the same time, the announcement of large constellations with several thousand active satellites are challenging the way in which spacecraft are operated today, conventionally dealing with one satellite at a time. Effective management of large fleets of satellites demands for a holistic system view of the constellation. It requires advances in automation strategy for the planning, commanding and execution of recurring, day-to-day tasks. This paper presents a self-regulating method for the scheduling problem of pass allocation on the basis of a data economic concept, in which satellites and ground-based antennas are modeled as dynamic actors in an auction system. On-board payload data is assigned with a certain value that represents the currency. Contact windows, in which satellites can download their data to the ground, are regarded as resource. The satellites can place bids on predicted contact possibilities in order to downlink the data and generate reward. This auction-based approach together with a space environment simulator for satellite constellations was implemented as a proof of concept. Our simulation showcase covers a range of constellation sizes from 40 to 1080 satellites, thus demonstrating the scalability of our approach. It evaluates the results with selected metrics, such as the total amount of downloaded data or contact frequency of the individual satellites. It shows that the implemented distributed auction-based scheduling approach can overcome limitations, establishing the possibility of automated constellation operation based on this approach. Development and testing of novel Advanced Driver Assistance systems (ADASs) based on Vehicle-2-X (V2X) communication is often supported by simulations. However, simulation models for Vehicular Ad Hoc networks (VANETs) can easily become very complex due to the diverse set of involved components such as vehicle mobility, radio propagation, network protocols and application behavior. Therefore, we present an extension to the V2X simulation framework “Vehicles in Network Simulation” (Veins) with a clear separation of concerns regarding network and application aspects. Because of distinctively modeled Facilities and Application layers, this approach enables the concurrent combination of multiple VANET application sets as well as the evaluation of their interdependencies. The proposed extension to Veins, named Artery, incorporates an implementation of the ETSI ITS-G5 protocol stack following the European specifications for V2X communication. State and perception data required for ADAS algorithms are collected and provided in an extensible manner for each vehicle. Thus, Artery represents a more holistic approach in testing novel VANET applications in a network simulation environment.

In Delay-Tolerant networks (DTN), individual nodes with much higher rates of sending new bundles than average can degrade the delivery rate of other nodes substantially. They have a much higher impact on the overall network fairness than in traditional networks because of DTN - specific properties, such as decentralized design and the store-and-forward approach. Authenticated resource management schemes were proposed to guarantee minimum delivery rates in the presence of nodes with high resource utilization as well as in the presence of malicious nodes performing Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. They partition the buffer adaptively based on the source node identifier of incoming bundles, which is cryptographically authenticated by the network. We extend such approaches by using a cryptographic primitive named proxy signature. Our method allows treating a bundle not only based on its source node. Instead, a combined affiliation of the source node together with the requesting node can be used which allows for better support of important communication patterns such as request-response. Our method can improve the overall fairness and is similar to a reverse charge call in telephone networks, as the requesting node “pays” for the response by allowing it to also use buffer space normally assigned to itself. We evaluate our approach using simulations in different scenarios.

Therefore,they remove information(e.g.,color information) from continuous media streams,such as video *** basic architecture and concept as well as a prototype implementation and some measurements are presented in this paper.
