This paper describes a large, unabridged data-set of Java source code gathered and shared as part of the Merobase Component Finder project of the Software-Engineering Group at the University of Mannheim. It consists of the complete index used to drive the search engine, ***, the vast majority 1 of the source code modules accessible through it, and a tool that enables researchers to efficiently browse the collected data. We describe the techniques used to collect, format and store the data set, as well as the core capabilities of the Merobase search engine such as classic keyword-based, interface-based and test-driven search. This data-set, which represents one of the largest searchable collections of source and binary modules available online, has been recently made available for download and use in further research projects. Current automotive trends, such as autonomous and connected driving, are mainly enabled by embedded software that is deployed on a network of several, often more than one hundred, electronic control units. These software parts are responsible for many complex tasks concerning safety, comfort, energy management, and vehicle dynamics. Currently, they are deployed to the units at the end of the assembly line. Although a new software baseline of electronic control units is released in regular terms, normally six months, updates during after-sales are mostly conducted only in urgent cases, such as recall campaigns. Upcoming over-the-air services will enable more frequent updates to fix bugs and add new functionality. The possible alternatives of engines, chassis, and customer wishes lead to a high number of existing vehicle variants, so that the management of releases and configurations becomes more complex and costly. In a survey, we asked participants from different automotive institutions about the current state of practice, and the challenges they face during release development and management. This paper presents and discusses the main results of this survey: We have identified that field updates will be deployed more frequently in the future, and that over-the-air communication is an efficient way to realize them. The reported main update reasons are bug fixes and function improvement. However, the shortening release and update cycles, the increasing number of variants, and the multidisciplinarity in the automotive field are major challenges requiring suitable processes, methods, and tools to achieve software that operates correctly.

In Wirth & Reinartz (1996), we introduced the early indicator method, a multi-strategy approach for the efficient prediction of various aspects of the fault profile of a set of cars in a large automotive database. While successful, the initial implementation was limited in various ways. In this paper, we report recent progress focusing on performance gains we achieved through proper process-based database support. We show how intelligent management of the information collected during a KDD process can both make the task of the user easier and speed up the execution. The central idea is to use an object oriented schema as the central information directory to which data, knowledge, and processes can be attached. Furthermore, it enables the automatic exploitation of previously stored results. Together with the query-shipping strategy, this achieves efficiency and scalability in order to analyze huge databases. While we demonstrate the usefulness of our solution in the context of the early indicator method, the approach is generally applicable and useful for any integrated, comprehensive KDD system. The 2010 Symposium on Component-Based Software Engineering (CBSE 2010) was the 13th in a series of successful events that have grown into the main forum for industrial and academic experts to discuss component technology. CBSE is concerned with the development of software-intensive systems from - dependently developed software-building blocks (components), the development of components, and system maintenance and improvement by means of com- nent replacement and customization. The aim of the conference is to promote a science and technology foundation for achieving predictable quality in software systems through the use of software component technology and its associated software engineering practices. In line with a broad interest, CBSE 2010 received 48 submissions. From these submissions, 14 were accepted after a careful peer-review process followed by an online program committee discussion. This resulted in an acceptance rate of 29%. The selected technical papers are published in this volume. For the fourth time, CBSE 2010 was held as part of the conference series: Fed- ated Events on Component-Based Software Engineering and Software Archit- ture (COMPARCH). The federated events were: the 13th International S- posium on Component-Based Software Engineering (CBSE 2010), the 6th - ternational Conference on the Quality of Software Architectures (QoSA 2010), andthe1stInternationalSymposium onArchitecting CriticalSystems(ISARCS 2010). Together with COMPARCH’s Industrial Experience Report Track and the co-located Workshop on Component-Oriented programming (WCOP 2010), COMPARCH provided a broad spectrum of events related to components and architectures.

In various industries, optimizing manufacturing parameters is vital for the efficient production of high-quality products. Traditional methods involve costly production trials and process tuning – particularly when dealing with complex processes and materials such as composites. High-fidelity simulations offer a cost-effective alternative. However, they can be computationally intensive, which often renders them impracticable for iterative optimization. Surrogate model-based optimization (SuMO) provides a solution by using efficient, data-driven approximations. However, existing approaches often overlook valuable domain knowledge, such as material behavior, spatial relationships and optimization objective. We investigate different types of knowledge varying in complexity, difficulty to incorporate and transferability to other domains. In numerical studies on composite manufacturing – specifically, textile draping – we demonstrate that integrating such domain knowledge improves prediction accuracy, reduces optimization iterations, and enhances overall outcomes.

The Minimax Rate of HSIC Estimation for Translation-Invariant Kernels

Kernel techniques are among the most influential approaches in data science and statistics. Under mild conditions, the reproducing kernel Hilbert space associated to a kernel is capable of encoding the independence of M ≥ 2 random variables. Probably the most widespread independence measure relying on kernels is the so-called Hilbert-Schmidt independence criterion (HSIC;also referred to as distance covariance in the statistics literature). Despite various existing HSIC estimators designed since its introduction close to two decades ago, the fundamental question of the rate at which HSIC can be estimated is still open. In this work, we prove that the minimax optimal rate of HSIC estimation on Rd for Borel measures containing the Gaussians with continuous bounded translation-invariant characteristic kernels is O(n−1/2). Specifically, our result implies the optimality in the minimax sense of many of the most-frequently used estimators (including the U-statistic, the V-statistic, and the Nyström-based one) on RdMSC Codes 62C20, 46E22, 47B32, 94A15, 62G10 Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Both information and automated production systems (aPS) evolve during their lifetime, e.g. due to changes in requirements and infrastructure. In order to estimate maintenance effort in information systems the KAMP method is applied. This paper discusses the necessary classification of changes as a prerequisite to apply such a method. Aggravating aPS consist not only of software but also include mechanics and electric/automation hardware. Therefore, the classification has to be enlarged to a multi-disciplinary one. The limitations of this approach for aPS are discussed in detail and demonstrated using three scenarios of a lab size pick and place unit. The paper closes delivering first ideas to cope with these.

Nyström M-Hilbert-Schmidt Independence Criterion

Kernel techniques are among the most popular and powerful approaches of data science. Among the key features that make kernels ubiquitous are (i) the number of domains they have been designed for, (ii) the Hilbert structure of the function class associated to kernels facilitating their statistical analysis, and (iii) their ability to represent probability distributions without loss of information. These properties give rise to the immense success of Hilbert-Schmidt independence criterion (HSIC) which is able to capture joint independence of random variables under mild conditions, and permits closed-form estimators with quadratic computational complexity (w.r.t. the sample size). In order to alleviate the quadratic computational bottleneck in large-scale applications, multiple HSIC approximations have been proposed, however these estimators are restricted to M "2 random variables, do not extend naturally to the M ě 2 case, and lack theoretical guarantees. In this work, we propose an alternative Nyström-based HSIC estimator which handles the M ě 2 case, prove its consistency, and demonstrate its applicability in multiple contexts, including synthetic examples, dependency testing of media annotations, and causal *** Codes 46E22, 94A17 Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Information and automated production systems are long-living, evolvable systems. Consequently, modifications are performed to correct, improve or adapt the respective system. We introduce different approaches to analyze maintainability of software-intensive systems and propose two different case studies from the information and from the automated production systems domain as a basis to validate approaches on system evolution.

Model-driven application engineering builds on the concept of model transformations. To weave additional refinement parts into an application model, so-called refinement transformations are used. In many cases these refinement parts are highly variable and configurable. Such a configuration could depend on application specific features. Today, application developers need to define refinement transformations manually, including all possible configuration combinations. Due to the high number of possible initial requirements such a development method is costly and means significant effort. Therefore configurable refinements should be embedded in an overall model-driven application development process. Currently there is a lack of automated support for integrating these configuration decisions into the development process of refinement transformations. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach for automated feature model-based generation of refinement transformations. To express application features, we consider configurations specified by extended feature diagrams. In addition, we provide a running example giving insight into the application of the presented approach.
