quantum search algorithms, such as the Grover algorithm, are investigated as one of the ways to solve a traveling salesman problem (TSP). In TSP, the quantum search starts from an equal superposition of all feasible solutions. The embedding cost of all feasible solutions is up to exponential, i.e., O(n!) with n cities, and makes it difficult to solve large-scale TSP. Hence, preparing the initial state of TSP at a lower embedding cost is an important issue. Here, we propose a quantum search algorithm based on the divide-and-conquer approach, which divides each constraint term of the TSP into subproblems and applies the quantum search to each subproblem. We investigate the embedding quality of all feasible solutions by comparing our proposed method with the Grover algorithm regarding optimal iterations and success probability. The results show that our quantum divide-and-conquer approach can significantly reduce the embedding cost while the success probability decreases. © 2023 IEEE.

Advanced modulation and coding schemes (AMCS) are techniques used to enhance the records charge and throughput in satellite to for pc communications links with the aid of taking benefit of multiplexing, errors correction, and forward error-correction techniques. AMCS are designed to beautify records transmission from the satellite to the receiving station, as well as from the ground station to the satellite. When a signal is sent through a satellite hyperlink, a top restriction to its statistics charge is reached due to elements which include sign-to-noise ratio and the quantity of interference detected. With a proper combination of modulation and coding strategies, but, this upper restrict can be prolonged, accordingly improving throughput and reliability. AMCS use modulation techniques to encode records whilst coding techniques are used to manipulate and verify information integrity between the source and the vacation spot. Modulation strategies permit records signals to skip thru a transmission channel, together with a satellite to for pc link, through converting the traits of the signal consisting of the amplitude, frequency, or section. Coding techniques make sure that records may be reliably transmitted over the hyperlink by using adding redundant information to the authentic message. Such redundant statistics is used to detect and accurate any errors inside the facts that could occur during the transmission technique. © 2024 IEEE.

We consider a multi-user joint rate adaptation and computation distribution problem in a millimeter wave (mmWave) virtual reality (VR) system. The VR system that we consider comprises an edge computing unit (ECU) that serves 360° videos to VR users. We formulate a multi-user quality of experience (QoE) maximization problem, in which VR users are assisted with the ECU to decode/render 360° videos. The ECU provides additional computational resources that can be used for processing video frames, at the expense of increased data volume and required bandwidth. To balance this trade-off, we leverage deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for joint rate adaptation and computational resource allocation optimization. Our proposed method, dubbed Deep VR, does not rely on any predefined assumption about the environment and relies on video playback statistics (i.e., past throughput, decoding time, transmission time, etc.), video information, and the resulting performance to adjust the video bitrate and computation distribution. We train Deep VR with real-world mmWave network traces and 360° video datasets to obtain evaluation results in terms of the average QoE, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), rebuffering time, and quality variation. Our results indicate that the Deep VR improves the users’ QoE compared to state-of-the-art rate adaptation algorithm. Specifically, we show a 3.08 dB to 4.49 dB improvement in video quality in terms of PSNR, a 12.5x to 14x reduction in rebuffering time, and a 3.07 dB to 3.96 dB improvement in quality variation.

We study a multi-task decision-making problem for 360 $J$ video processing in a wireless multi-user virtual reality (VR) system that includes an edge computing unit (ECU) to deliver 360 $J$ videos to VR users and offer computing assistance for decoding/rendering of video frames. However, this comes at the expense of increased data volume and required bandwidth. To balance this trade-off, we formulate a constrained quality of experience (QoE) maximization problem in which the rebuffering time and quality variation between video frames are bounded by user and video requirements. To solve the formulated multi-user QoE maximization, we leverage deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for multi-task rate adaptation and computation distribution (MTRC). The proposed MTRC approach does not rely on any predefined assumption about the environment and relies on video playback statistics (i.e., past throughput, decoding time, transmission time, etc.), video information, and the resulting performance to adjust the video bitrate and computation distribution. We train MTRC with real-world wireless network traces and $360^{\circ}$ video datasets to obtain evaluation results in terms of the average QoE, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), rebuffering time, and quality variation. Our results indicate that the MTRC improves the users' QoE compared to state-of-the-art rate adaptation algorithm. Specifically, we show a 5.97 dB to 6.44 dB improvement in PSNR, a 1.66X to 4.23X improvement in rebuffering time, and a 4.21 dB to 4.35 dB improvement in quality variation.

With the agile development process of most academic and corporate entities, designing a robust computational back-end system that can support their ever-changing data needs is a constantly evolving challenge. We propose the implementation of a data and language-agnostic system design that handles different data schemes and sources while subsequently providing researchers and developers a way to connect to it that is supported by a vast majority of programming languages. To validate the efficacy of a system with this proposed architecture, we integrate various data sources throughout the decentralized finance (DeFi) space, specifically from DeFi lending protocols, retrieving tens of millions of data points to perform analytics through this system. We then access and process the retrieved data through several different programming languages (R-Lang, Python, and Java). Finally, we analyze the performance of the proposed architecture in relation to other high-performance systems and explore how this system performs under a high computational load. © 2023 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has become an integral part of our lives, but it also poses a major security threat. As the number of IoT devices grows and more data is collected about us, malicious actors are taking advantage and launching attacks on vulnerable systems. Offensive security testing is a proactive approach of securing computing infrastructure through adversary simulation. This involves, understanding different attack tools that are available and how they can be used to attack devices. This paper studies the state of open-source tools which are available to test IoT networks that use the Zigbee and MQTT protocols. Usage of these tools are explained with attack examples, challenges are listed and enhanced tooling capabilities are proposed. © 2023 IEEE.

We report on the site-controlled Purcell-enhanced quantum emitters in hexagonal boron nitride by strain-induced activation in gold-coated silicon nanoposts. Existing works in federated learning (FL) often assume either full client or uniformly distributed client participation. However, in reality, some clients may never participate in FL training (aka incomplete client participation) due to various system heterogeneity factors. A popular solution is the server-assisted federated learning (SA-FL) framework, where the server uses an auxiliary dataset. Despite empirical evidence of SA-FL's effectiveness in addressing incomplete client participation, theoretical understanding of SA-FL is lacking. Furthermore, the effects of incomplete client participation in conventional FL are poorly understood. This motivates us to rigorously investigate SA-FL. Toward this end, we first show that conventional FL is not PAC-learnable under incomplete client participation in the worst case. Then, we show that the PAC-learnability of FL with incomplete client participation can indeed be revived by SA-FL, which theoretically justifies the use of SA-FL for the first time. Lastly, to provide practical guidance for SA-FL training under incomplete client participation, we propose the SAFARI (server-assisted federated averaging) algorithm that enjoys the same linear convergence speedup guarantees as classic FL with ideal client participation assumptions, offering the first SA-FL algorithm with convergence guarantee. Extensive experiments on different datasets show SAFARI significantly improves the performance under incomplete client participation. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

This paper aims at developing algorithms to automate the process of reading analog gauges at different operational industries, healthcare sector and automobiles using Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques. Proposed algorithms start with video stabilization using optical flow followed by image processing which performs segmentation using HSV color space and morphological operations. Next, Hough transform is applied to determine the dial region and pointer. Using the coordinates locating the pointer in the frame, angle made with minimum valued scale mark is calculated using trigonometry and evaluated reading is displayed in the form of text and a progress bar. The proposed algorithms for Analog Gauge Reader (AGR) is executed using open-source libraries such as OpenCV, NumPy, PIL with Python programming and it is developed in the PyCharm environment. The experimental results show significant decrease in the error with the introduction of image preprocessing and the generalizability of the algorithm to different types of analog gauges captured in different conditions of illuminance. The accuracy and precision of the algorithms is 99% to 100% in the experimental studies. © 2022 IEEE.
