Assistive visual navigation systems for visually impaired individuals have become increasingly popular thanks to the rise of mobile computing. Most of these devices work by translating visual information into voice commands. In complex scenarios where multiple objects are present, it is imperative to prioritize object detection and provide immediate notifications for key entities in specific directions. This brings the need for identifying the observer's motion direction (ego-motion) by merely processing visual information, which is the key contribution of this paper. Specifically, we introduce Motor Focus, a lightweight image-based framework that predicts the ego-motion - the humans' (and humanoid machines') movement intentions based on their visual feeds, while filtering out camera motion without any camera calibration. To this end, we implement an optical flow-based pixel-wise temporal analysis method to compensate for the camera motion with a Gaussian aggregation to smooth out the movement prediction area. Subsequently, to evaluate the performance, we collect a dataset including 50 clips of pedestrian scenes in 5 different scenarios. We tested this framework with classical feature detectors such as SIFT and ORB to show the comparison. Our framework demonstrates its superiority in speed $(> 40\text{FPS})$ , accuracy (MAE $=60\text{pixels})$ , and robustness (SNR $=23\text{dB})$ , confirming its potential to enhance the usability of vision-based assistive navigation tools in complex environments. We present efficient implementations of atom reconfiguration algorithms for both CPUs and GPUs, along with a batching routine to merge displacement operations for parallel execution. Leveraging graph-theoretic methods, our approach derives improved algorithms that achieve reduced time complexity and faster operational running times. First, we introduce an enhanced version of the redistribution-reconfiguration (red-rec) algorithm, which offers superior operational and runtime performance. We detail its efficient implementation on a GPU using a parallel approach. Next, we present an optimized version of the assignment-reconfiguration-ordering (aro) algorithm, specifically tailored for unweighted grid graphs. Finally, we introduce the bird algorithm to solve reconfiguration problems on grids, achieving performance gains over both red-rec and aro. These algorithms can be used to prepare defect-free configurations of neutral atoms in arrays of optical traps, serve as subroutines in more complex algorithms, or cross-benchmark the operational and runtime performance of new algorithms. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are integral to diverse applications, ranging from environmental monitoring to urban smart infrastructure. In the realm of WSNs, security remains a critical challenge owing to the complex nature of the sensor environment. As a result, WSN security has become a research focus in recent years. In this paper, we introduce ChaoSen, a novel image sensor system incorporating analog chaotic circuits within the sensor, thereby enhancing the overall system security. The system utilizes a scrambler module, which intricately intertwines with the chaotic encryption process, to reduce the predictability of pixel values and enhance the security of the system. Comparative evaluations demonstrate that the system achieves an NPCR value of 99.5562% and a UACI of 35.81900%, indicating high sensitivity to input changes and significant alteration in pixel intensity. Our approach also demonstrates its resilience against common cyber attacks, balancing enhanced security with resource efficiency.

Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness in the industrialized world. In nAMD, abnormal blood vessel growth occurs under the macula, leading to exudation and scarring, distorting central vision. Current nAMD standard of care involves repeated intraocular injections of drugs that target the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling pathway (anti-VEGF drugs). These treatments have a high burden on patients, caregivers and physicians. Gene therapy based long-lasting production of anti-VEGF proteins in the eye (bio-factory approach) may address some of the limitations of current therapies. We adapt a previously developed three-compartment (retina, vitreous humor, aqueous humor) pharmacokinetic model in rabbits to simulate the pharmacokinetics of anti-VEGF proteins in the human eye delivered by intravitreal injection or produced via the gene therapy bio-factory approach. The model is used to estimate the protein levels in the vitreous humor and retina, and the retina anti-VEGF production rate starting from clinically measured anti-VEGF protein levels in the aqueous, using gene therapy. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Low-latency control system for feedback experiments with optical tweezer arrays

We present and characterize a modular, open-source system to perform feedback control experiments on configurations of atoms and molecules in arrays of optical tweezers. The system features a modular, cost-effective computer architecture with a motherboard and peripheral cards. It supports efficient data transfer to and from graphics processing units (GPUs) using Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA), leveraging GPU efficiency in matrix multiplication and parallelism, while enabling direct data transfer between devices without involving the CPU. We first describe the architecture and workflow of the system, detailing its hardware components and software modules. We then evaluate the computational runtime for preparing defect-free chains and grids of atoms using efficient implementations of atom reconfiguration algorithms. Finally, we discuss timing bottlenecks and strategies to reduce latency. Beyond solving reconfiguration problems, the system can readily be used to implement adaptive and feedforward protocols, as well as digital quantum algorithms relying on particle displacement. Our results lay the groundwork for developing low-latency feedback control systems, benchmarking their performance, and advancing scalable quantum hardware. © 2025, CC BY.

A Method to Improve the Accuracy of Personal Information Detection

It is necessary to confirm the personal data factors and the rules of verification before conducting personal data detection. So that the detection method can be written in the subsequent implementation of the automatic detection tool. This paper will conduct experiments on common personal data factor rules, including domestic personal identity numbers and credit card numbers with checksums. We use ChatGPT to test the accuracy of identifying personal information like ID card identification numbers or credit card numbers. And then use personal data correlation to reduce the time for personal data identification. Although the number of personal information factors found has decreased, it has had a better effect on the actual manual personal data identification. The result shows that it saves about 45% of the calculation time, and the execution efficiency of the accuracy is also improved with the original method by about 22%, which is about 2.2 times higher than the general method. Therefore, the method proposed in this paper can accurately and effectively find out the leftover personal information in the enterprise. .

Climate change has accelerated the dynamics of cryospheric and oceanographic systems, leading to rising sea levels, increased ice melt, and significant shifts in polar regions. Monitoring these changes is crucial, yet traditional observational methods are often impractical in remote, harsh environments. This study presents a novel approach to monitoring oceanographic and cryospheric changes induced by climate dynamics, using a cascaded long short-term memory (LSTM) and recurrent neural network (RNN) model with ICESat and supplementary remote sensing data. The model leverages ICESat’s high-resolution laser altimetry for precise measurements of ice thickness and ice sheet elevation, combined with data from MODIS, Sentinel-1, and CryoSat-2 for comprehensive insights. Our results indicate that the cascaded LSTM-RNN model achieves high predictive accuracy, with root mean square error (RMSE) values as low as 0.08 m for ice thickness and a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.05 m. Additionally, it attains a correlation coefficient of 0.96, significantly outperforming other models like standalone LSTM (RMSE 0.12 m, MAE 0.09 m) and CNN-LSTM hybrid (RMSE 0.10 m, MAE 0.08 m). This model captures both seasonal and long-term trends in ice dynamics, highlighting its utility for robust climate monitoring. The successful integration of ICESat and other remote sensing data demonstrates the potential for advanced machine learning techniques to enhance predictions of polar and oceanographic changes, supporting climate adaptation efforts. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

We demonstrate nonlocal modulation of entangled photons with truly distributed radio frequency (RF) clocks. Leveraging a custom radio-over-fiber (RFoF) system characterized via classical spectral interference, we validate its effectiveness for quantum networking by multiplexing the RFoF clock with one photon from a frequency-bin-entangled pair and distributing the coexisting quantum-classical signals over fiber. Phase modulation of the two photons reveals nonlocal correlations in excellent agreement with theory: in-phase modulation produces additional sidebands in the joint spectral intensity, while out-of-phase modulation is nonlocally canceled. Our simple, feedback-free design attains subpicosecond synchronization—namely, drift less than ∼0.5 ps in a 5.5 km fiber over 30 min (fractionally only ∼2×10 −8 of the total fiber delay)—and should facilitate frequency-encoded quantum networking protocols such as high-dimensional quantum key distribution and entanglement swapping, unlocking frequency-bin qubits for practical quantum communications in deployed metropolitan-scale networks.
