A long standing problem in the modeling of non-Newtonian hydrodynamics of polymeric flows is the availability of reliable and interpretable hydrodynamic models that faithfully encode the underlying micro-scale polymer dynamics. The main complication arises from the long polymer relaxation time, the complex molecular structure and heterogeneous interaction. DeePN2, a deep learning-based non-Newtonian hydrodynamic model, has been proposed and has shown some success in systematically passing the micro-scale structural mechanics information to the macro-scale hydrodynamics for suspensions with simple polymer conformation and bond potential. The model retains a multi-scaled nature by mapping the polymer configurations into a set of symmetry-preserving macro-scale features. The extended constitutive laws for these macro-scale features can be directly learned from the kinetics of their micro-scale counterparts. In this paper, we develop DeePN2 using more complex micro-structural models. We show that DeePN2 can faithfully capture the broadly overlooked viscoelastic differences arising from the specific molecular structural mechanics without human intervention. © 2021, CC BY.

Objectives: Infectious diseases are often associated with decline in quality of life. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between personal history of communicable, i.e., infectious and parasitic diseases and self-rated health. Study design: Secondary analysis of a large dataset multi-country observational study. Methods: We used a four-pronged analysis approach to investigate whether personal history of infectious and parasitic diseases is related to self-reported health, measured with a single item. Results: Three of the four analyses found a small positive effect on self-reported health among those reporting a history of pathogen exposure. The meta-analysis found no support but large heterogeneity that was not reduced by two classifications of countries. Conclusion: Personal history of infectious and parasitic diseases does not reduce self-reported health across a global sample. © 2025 The Authors

Public Deliberation Process on Patient Perspectives on Health Information Sharing: Evaluative Descriptive Study

Background: Precision oncology is one of the fastest-developing domains of personalized medicine and is one of many data-intensive fields. Policy for health information sharing that is informed by patient perspectives can help organizations align practice with patient preferences and expectations, but many patients are largely unaware of the complexities of how and why clinical health information is shared. Objective: This paper evaluates the process of public deliberation as an approach to understanding the values and preferences of current and former patients with cancer regarding the use and sharing of health information collected in the context of precision oncology. Methods: We conducted public deliberations with patients who had a current or former cancer diagnosis. A total of 61 participants attended 1 of 2 deliberative sessions (session 1, n=28;session 2, n=33). Study team experts led two educational plenary sessions, and trained study team members then facilitated discussions with small groups of participants. Participants completed pre- and postdeliberation surveys measuring knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about precision oncology and data sharing. Following informational sessions, participants discussed, ranked, and deliberated two policy-related scenarios in small groups and in a plenary session. In the analysis, we evaluate our process of developing the deliberative sessions, the knowledge gained by participants during the process, and the extent to which participants reasoned with complex information to identify policy preferences. Results: The deliberation process was rated highly by participants. Participants felt they were listened to by their group facilitator, that their opinions were respected by their group, and that the process that led to the group’s decision was fair. The Trail Making Test (TMT) is widely used to evaluate higher-order executive cognitive functions and basic cognitive abilities. This test is suitable for both healthy individuals and patients with brain injuries or specific functional impairments. The TMT consists of a visual cancellation task and a series of exercises requiring the sequential connection of numbered and lettered circles. It evaluates several aspects of executive functioning, such as visual scanning, motor speed, inhibition, and switching. In clinical neuropsychology, the TMT is an effective measure for distinguishing the cognitive performance of healthy individuals from that of patients. Its ease of administration, practicality, and sensitivity make it a valuable tool for diagnosing cognitive disorders and neurological injuries. Overall, the TMT is a crucial instrument for evaluating executive function. In recent years, researchers worldwide have utilized the TMT to establish local normative data. Most studies have focused on adults, particularly middle-aged and older individuals (Indorewalla et al., 2022;Magnusdottir et al., 2021;Siciliano et al., 2019;St-Hilaire et al., 2018) as well as seniors (Fröhlich et al., 2024). However, research providing local normative data for school-aged children, middle school students, high school students, and younger adults remains scarce. Additionally, most of these studies have sample sizes ranging from approximately 200 to 1000 participants. In Taiwan, Kuo and Hua (2015) translated and adapted the Color Trails Test (CTT), originally developed by D’ Elia et al. (1996), into a Chinese-language version. This adaptation applied TMT principles to establish normative data for Taiwan’s middle-aged and older populations. Their data were derived from a study conducted on healthy adults aged over 50 years. The present study aims to investigate the relationship between the Dark Tetrad and affective well-being, and whether dark comic styles are a mediator. A sample of college students ( N = 863) completed the Short Dark Tetrad, the dark cluster of the Comic Style Markers (assessing irony, sarcasm, and cynicism), and measures of affective well-being (the Positive and Negative Affect Scale). The results revealed that high Dark Tetrad traits were positively associated with a higher tendency to dark comic styles. Sadism shows a robust relationship with sarcasm and is overall unrelated to positive affect. Sarcasm comprehensively mediates the relationship between each Dark Tetrad trait and negative affect in a positive association. Cynicism negatively mediates the relationship between psychopathy and positive affect. Consequently, dark comic styles impede twofold on the well-being of people with high psychopathy. The present study suggests that dark comic styles are closely related to Dark Tetrad and affective well-being, particularly linked to cynicism and sarcasm associated with positive and negative affect in the Dark Tetrad. The role of dark comic styles in the relationship between specific personality traits (e.g., dark traits) and well-being is worthy of further expansion.

In this commentary, we examine how to use the recently developed educational method called Co-constructive Patient Simulation (CCPS) to improve continuous professional development in healthcare. CCPS invites learners to participate in the creation of meaningful simulated scenarios while fostering reflection-in/on/for-action and community-building. By participating in the creation of the simulated scenarios, learners guarantee that the challenges addressed by the learning activities are aligned with their developmental stages and needs. Additionally, as learners may invite supervisors to take the "hot seat" during the simulation session, the CCPS approach allows learners to witness how supervisors would handle situations perceived as challenging. This exchange of roles creates an opportunity for camaraderie, as supervisors expose themselves and assume a vulnerable position. This camaraderie facilitates educational bonding and community building. As a result, in this participatory and co-creative approach to simulation, experts become the facilitators of a learner-centred activity, which increases motivation and allows tailored and contextualised learning. This co-constructive approach to simulation adds to the repertoire of more traditional CPD strategies by fostering spontaneity and authenticity. It integrates learning opportunities in clinical practice, amplifies learner's critical reflection and autonomy, and harnesses real-life challenges to offer meaningful solutions to lifelong learning. The democratic environment optimised by experts joining the activity and sharing their vulnerabilities with trainees further catalyzes the creation of a community for teaching, learning, and shared development.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health threat, ranking among the leading causes of mortality worldwide. This study aims to investigate the application of several machine learning models in predicting tuberculosis (TB) treatment outcomes. The study utilizes an extensive dataset from Karnataka, India. The study utilized advanced methodologies, such as XGBoost, to address the issue of imbalanced data and enhance the precision of the predictions. The findings show that these models can greatly improve the identification of patients who are likely to have poor adherence to their treatments, allowing for more focused interventions. The objective is to predict tuberculosis treatment outcomes and assist public health initiatives in Karnataka through the integration of these predictive technologies into the healthcare system.

Innovation entails the transformation of creativity into value. Innovation abilities are increasingly important and need to be valued and promoted in the current educational environment. To understand the role of students’ creative self-efficacy in practical competitions, this study explored the relevance of students’ participation in active competition and participation in the International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI). Participants chose the work category attached to the value and created ideas between the work and the selected category, affirming the competition’s value through self-efficacy and engagements. This study collected data from 254 students and performed confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM) through AMOS 20. All items in this study were different, that is, they could be used to investigate the response of the study sample. The average variation extraction ranged from 0.57 to 0.66, which was greater than 0.50;the factor load of each item ranged from 0.65 to 0.87, which was greater than 0.50. Therefore, the study data all met the test criteria of convergence validity and construct validity. In the study data, the combined reliability of each facet was above 0.899, which was greater than 0.70;the Cronbach’s α value of each facet ranged from 0.896 to 0.923, which met the criteria of internal consistency reliability. The acceptability model constructed in this study had statistically obtained indicators of χ² = 497.1, df = 246, χ² /df = 2.02, RMSEA = 0.06, GFI = 0.86, AGF I= 0.83, NFI = 0.91, CFI = 0.94, IFI = 0.94, RFI = 0.91, PNFI = 0.79, PGFI = 0.71. The aforementioned indicators were in line with the verification criteria, showing that this model is suitable for analyzing all paths of this data construction.
