Pipeline parallelism is essential for edge computing as it effectively consolidates the limited resources of edge devices, enabling the deployment of large Deep Neural Network (DNN) models and accelerating inference processes without compromising the performance of models. Accurate computation and communication latency estimation on heterogeneous edge devices is essential for searching for a superior parallelism plan. However, existing heterogeneous pipeline inference approaches either incur substantial resource wastage during online parallelism planning, as they utilize profiling strategies that occupy physical devices;or rely on cost models with inadequate representational capabilities, leading to inaccurate predictions, thereby harming the result of pipeline planning. This paper proposes EPipe, a novel pipeline inference framework that supports high-quality offline planning in heterogeneous edge environments. EPipe integrates two core components: the Task-Device Co-analyzer (TDC) and the Multi-pipeline Parallelism Planner (MPP). TDC utilizes an undirected connected graph to depict the compatibility of DNNs across device groups and precisely estimates inference and communication latencies through fine-grained modeling. Based on TDC, MPP utilizes a dynamic programming-based genetic algorithm to explore multi-pipeline solutions, extending beyond traditional single-pipeline methods. A comprehensive experimental evaluation on an edge testbed confirms the effectiveness of EPipe, demonstrating significant speedups in inference tasks for both task streams and single tasks. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

The knowledge graph(KG) that represents structural relations among entities has become an increasingly important research field for knowledge-driven artificial intelligence. In this survey, a comprehensive review of KG and KG reasoning is provided. It introduces an overview of KGs, including representation, storage, and essential technologies. Specifically, it summarizes several types of knowledge reasoning approaches, including logic rules-based, representation-based, and neural network-based methods. Moreover, this paper analyzes the representation methods of knowledge hypergraphs. To effectively model hyper-relational data and improve the performance of knowledge reasoning, a three-layer knowledge hypergraph model is proposed. Finally, it analyzes the advantages of three-layer knowledge hypergraphs through reasoning and update algorithms which could facilitate future research.

Service caching is an emerging solution to addressing massive service request in a distributed environment for supporting rapidly growing services and applications. With the explosive increases in global mobile data traffic, service caching over the edge computing architecture, Mobile edge computing (MEC), emerges for alleviating traffic congestion as well as for optimizing the efficiency of task processing. In this manuscript, we propose a novel profit-driven service caching method based on a federated learning model for service prediction and a deep reinforcement learning mode for yielding caching decisions (FPDRD) in an edge environment. The proposed method is temporal service popularity and user preference-aware. It aims to ensure quality of service (QoS) of delivery of cached service while maximizing the profits of network service providers. Experimental results clearly demonstrate that the FPDRD method outperforms traditional methods in multiple aspects. © ICST institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2024.

Log-based anomaly detection plays a crucial role in maintaining the reliability of software systems. Unsupervised models are more suitable for real-world usage because they do not rely on huge data labeling efforts. However, their effectiveness is limited because of the lack of supervision of data labels. To balance model effectiveness and labeling efforts, existing approaches enhance model capabilities by incorporating relatively few but key human labels as a golden signal, thereby improving the model ability with acceptable labeling efforts. However, these methods still face limitations of complex human labels and insufficient utilization of human knowledge. In this paper, we introduce LogCAE, a two-stage log anomaly detection approach based on active learning and contrastive learning. It utilizes an unsupervised model to learn from unlabeled log data without human labels and incorporates human knowledge through active learning during online optimization. We employ contrastive learning to optimize the representation of log samples in feature space for more efficient usage of human labels. We conducted experiments on three distinct public log datasets (Thunderbird, BGL, and Zookeeper). The results show that our method improves 12.93% F1-score on average with 6.06% labeled data samples. Besides, our approach is more effective in utilizing human labels than state-of-The-Art approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

In cricket training, preventing injuries and developing skills are of utmost importance, especially concerning the school cricketers. This research presents a web application, 'CricBoost' which would serve to address all these vital issues through a multifaceted strategy. This study offers batsman pose accuracy assessment and correction using MediaPipe and Random Forest algorithm, Analysis of bowling and grip using MediaPipe, VGG16 and Gradient Boost models for classification and Shap for providing suggestions on the optimal methods, Suggestion of Shot selection for Batsman, where YOLOv8 and OpenCV are applied to ball pitch analysis and the player is given suggestions about the right shot to take, and cricket drill recommendation system focused on targeted skill improvement of players. CricBoost will deliver a unique combination that will increase players' technical skills, strategic intelligence, and performance while simultaneously focusing on injury prevention by teaching correct techniques. © 2024 IEEE.

Federated learning has rapidly gained attention in the industrial sector due to its significant advantages in protecting privacy. However, ensuring the fairness of federated learning models post-deployment presents a challenge in practical applications. Given that clients typically rely on limited private datasets to assess model fairness, this constrains their ability to make accurate judgments about the fairness of the model. To address this issue, we propose an innovative evaluation framework, FedEvalFair, which integrates private data from multiple clients to comprehensively assess the fairness of models in actual deployment without compromising data privacy. Firstly, FedEvalFair draws on the concept of federated learning to achieve a comprehensive assessment while protecting privacy. Secondly, based on the statistical concept of "estimating the population from the sample", FedEvalFair is capable of estimating the fairness performance of the model in real-world settings from a limited data sample. Thirdly, we have designed a flexible two-stage evaluation strategy based on statistical hypothesis testing. We verified the theoretical performance and sensitivity to fairness variations of FedEvalFair using Monte Carlo simulations, demonstrating the superior performance of its two-stage evaluation strategy. Additionally, we validated the effectiveness of the FedEvalFair method on real-world datasets, including UCI Adult and eICU, and demonstrated its stability in dealing with real-world data distribution changes compared to traditional evaluation methods. © 2024 ACM.

The deep multi-view stereo (MVS) approaches generally construct 3D cost volumes to regularize and regress the depth map. These methods are limited with high-resolution outputs since the memory and time costs grow cubically as the volume resolution increases. In this paper, we presented an multi-stage iterative depth map estimation method for MVS. In our network, the cost volume is iteratively processed by lightweight 2D convolution based GRU modules, and the multi-stage coarse-to-fine structure is adopted to speed up the depth estimation process. To further improve the 3D reconstruction quality, we make improvements from two different perspectives of adaptive cost aggregation: a view-adaptive weighting module is proposed to account for the occlusion problem in cost volume fusion, and a spatial-adaptive deformable geometric feature encoding module is introduced to the cost volume feature encoding before feeding into GRUs for stronger modeling capability. Experiments on the DTU dataset demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed network in accuracy with remarkable efficiency performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

While advanced classifiers have been increasingly used in real-world safety-critical applications, how to properly evaluate the black-box models given specific human values remains a concern in the community. Such human values include punishing error cases of different severity in varying degrees and making compromises in general performance to reduce specific dangerous cases. In this paper, we propose a novel evaluation measure named Meta Pattern Concern Score based on the abstract representation of probabilistic prediction and the adjustable threshold for the concession in prediction confidence, to introduce the human values into multi-classifiers. Technically, we learn from the advantages and disadvantages of two kinds of common metrics, namely the confusion matrix-based evaluation measures and the loss values, so that our measure is effective as them even under general tasks, and the cross entropy loss becomes a special case of our measure in the limit. Besides, our measure can also be used to refine the model training by dynamically adjusting the learning rate. The experiments on four kinds of models and six datasets confirm the effectiveness and efficiency of our measure. And a case study shows it can not only find the ideal model reducing 0.53% of dangerous cases by only sacrificing 0.04% of training accuracy, but also refine the learning rate to train a new model averagely outperforming the original one with a 1.62% lower value of itself and 0.36% fewer number of dangerous cases. © 2023 IEEE.
