The valuable transformation of organizations that adopt cloud computing is indisputably accompanied by a number of security threats that should be considered. In this paper, we outline significant security challenges presented when migrating to a cloud environment and propose PaaSword-a novel holistic, data privacy and security by design, framework that aspires to alleviate them. The envisaged framework intends to maximize and fortify the trust of individual, professional and corporate users to cloud services. Specifically, PaaSword involves a context-aware security model, the necessary policies enforcement and governance mechanisms along with a physical distribution, encryption and query middleware, aimed at facilitating the implementation of secure and transparent cloud-based applications.

Data deduplication is an attractive technology to reduce storage space for increasing vast amount of duplicated and redundant data. In a cloud storage system with data deduplication, duplicate copies of data will be eliminated and only one copy will be kept in the storage. To protect the confidentiality of sensitive data while supporting deduplication, the convergent encryption technique has been proposed to encrypt the data before outsourcing. However, the issue of keyword search over encrypted data in deduplication storage system has to be addressed for efficient data utilization. This paper firstly proposes two constructions which support secure keyword search in this scenario. In these constructions, the integrity of the data can be realized by just checking the convergent key, without other traditional integrity auditing mechanisms. Then, two extensions are presented to support fuzzy keyword search and block-level deduplication. Finally, security analysis is given.

The authors measured electroencephalograms (EEGs) from subjects looking at line drawings of body parts and recalling their names silently. The equivalent current dipole source localization (ECDL) method is applied to the event related potentials (ERPs): summed EEGs. ECDs are localized to the primary visual area V1, to the ventral pathway (ITG: Inferior Temporal Gyrus), to the parahippocampus (ParaHip), the right angular gyrus (AnG), to the right supramarginal gyrus (SMG) and to the Wernike's area. Then ECDs are localized to the Broca's area, to the postcentral gyrus (PstCG) and to the fusiform gyrus (FuG), and again to the Broca's area. These areas are related to the integrated process of visual recognition of pictures and the retrieval of words. Some of these areas are also related to image recognition and word generation. And process of search and preservation in the memory is done from the result of some ECDs to the paraHip.

Hardware-accelerated Wireless Sensor Network for Distributed Structural Health Monitoring

Civil infrastructure objects are subject to safety-related issues such as increasing loads and extended service live. Costly manual inspections of these structures should therefore be supplemented by automated continuous monitoring. In this work, a hardware-accelerated wireless sensor network built entirely with energy-efficient embedded components is proposed as the basis for a distributed structural health monitoring (SHM) implementation. In addition to detection and localization of structural damage, the energy-efficiency of the wireless data acquisition system is the major topic of this work. By utilizing the Random-Decrement (RD) technique, the structure's modal parameters are acquired based on ambient excitation such as wind or traffic. The RD functions are calculated by a Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) designed for mobile applications. To demonstrate the benefits of the proposed monitoring network, the model of a truss bridge is excited by a train set to simulate realistic operational excitations. Dominant mode shapes of the bridge model are extracted from the RD functions using frequency domain Operational Modal Analysis and compared to previously determined reference measurements. The loosening of a single bolted joint simulates damage and is found to be reflected in significant deviations of the first vertical bending mode, located at 68 Hz.

An approach for detecting the road boundary on different types of roads without any preliminary knowledge is presented. We fuse information obtained from an algorithm which detects road markings and road edges in images acquired by a video camera as well as data from a radar sensor. Each road marking, each road edge and each road barrier is tracked individually. Hence we can even capture exits or laybys. We use an edge image for road marking detection and texture information for road edge detection. Additional data provided by a radar sensor is used to measure targets referring to static barriers along the road side such as guardrails. The output of each processing unit is fused into a Kalman filter framework, where the confidence of each subsystem influences the innovation of the overall system. The underlying geometric road model comprises parameters for multiple lanes, the flanking road edge as well as the vehicle's relative pose. The work is part of the project interactIVe.

The problem of registration of perspectively deformed range images presented in this paper. The deformation correction is considered as a calibration correction of the correspondent cameras. An algorithm for an affine transformation compensation is presented. We focus on the registration of high dimensional human head range images. Our aim is to stitch the corrected surfaces in order to estimate of full head model. A modification of the ICP algorithm is described. The latter is aimed at estimating affine transformation.

Resolving vulnerability identification errors using security requirements on business process models

Purpose - In any information security risk assessment, vulnerabilities are usually identified by information-gathering techniques. However, vulnerability identification errors - wrongly identified or unidentified vulnerabilities - can occur as uncertain data are used. Furthermore, businesses' security needs are not considered sufficiently. Hence, security functions may not protect business assets sufficiently and cost-effectively. This paper aims to resolve vulnerability errors by analysing the security requirements of information assets in business process models. Design/methodology/approach - Business process models have been selected for use, because there is a close relationship between business process objectives and risks. Security functions are evaluated in terms of the information flow of business processes regarding their security requirements. The claim that vulnerability errors can be resolved was validated by comparing the results of a current risk assessment approach with the proposed approach. The comparison is conducted both at three entities of an insurance company, as well as through a controlled experiment within a survey among security professionals. Findings - Vulnerability identification errors can be resolved by explicitly evaluating security requirements in the course of business;this is not considered in current assessment methods. Originality/value - It is shown that vulnerability identification errors occur in practice. With the explicit evaluation of security requirements, identification errors can be resolved.
