An approach for detecting the road boundary on different types of roads without any preliminary knowledge is presented. We fuse information obtained from an algorithm which detects road markings and road edges in images acquired by a video camera as well as data from a radar sensor. Each road marking, each road edge and each road barrier is tracked individually. Hence we can even capture exits or laybys. We use an edge image for road marking detection and texture information for road edge detection. Additional data provided by a radar sensor is used to measure targets referring to static barriers along the road side such as guardrails. The output of each processing unit is fused into a Kalman filter framework, where the confidence of each subsystem influences the innovation of the overall system. The underlying geometric road model comprises parameters for multiple lanes, the flanking road edge as well as the vehicle's relative pose. The work is part of the project interactIVe.

The problem of registration of perspectively deformed range images presented in this paper. The deformation correction is considered as a calibration correction of the correspondent cameras. An algorithm for an affine transformation compensation is presented. We focus on the registration of high dimensional human head range images. Our aim is to stitch the corrected surfaces in order to estimate of full head model. A modification of the ICP algorithm is described. The latter is aimed at estimating affine transformation.

Resolving vulnerability identification errors using security requirements on business process models

Purpose - In any information security risk assessment, vulnerabilities are usually identified by information-gathering techniques. However, vulnerability identification errors - wrongly identified or unidentified vulnerabilities - can occur as uncertain data are used. Furthermore, businesses' security needs are not considered sufficiently. Hence, security functions may not protect business assets sufficiently and cost-effectively. This paper aims to resolve vulnerability errors by analysing the security requirements of information assets in business process models. Design/methodology/approach - Business process models have been selected for use, because there is a close relationship between business process objectives and risks. Security functions are evaluated in terms of the information flow of business processes regarding their security requirements. The claim that vulnerability errors can be resolved was validated by comparing the results of a current risk assessment approach with the proposed approach. The comparison is conducted both at three entities of an insurance company, as well as through a controlled experiment within a survey among security professionals. Findings - Vulnerability identification errors can be resolved by explicitly evaluating security requirements in the course of business;this is not considered in current assessment methods. Originality/value - It is shown that vulnerability identification errors occur in practice. With the explicit evaluation of security requirements, identification errors can be resolved. SystemC is widely used for modeling and simulation in hardware/software co-design. However, existing verification techniques are mostly ad-hoc and non-systematic. In this article, we present a systematic, comprehensive, and formally founded co-verification framework for digitalHW/SW systems that are modeled in SystemC. The framework is based on a formal semantics of SystemC and uses a combination of model checking and testing, whereby testing includes both the automated generation of timed inputs and automated conformance evaluation. We demonstrate its performance and its error detecting capability with two case studies, namely a packet switch and an anti-slip regulation and anti-lock braking system. © 2013 ACM.

The present authors recorded electroencephalograms (EEGs) from subjects viewing four types of line drawings of body part, tetrapod, home appliance, that were presented on a CRT. The authors investigated a single trial EEGs of the subject precisely after the latency at 400 ms, and determined effective sampling latencies for the discriminant analysis to some types of images. They sampled EEG data at latencies from 400 ms to 900 ms at 25 ms intervals by the four channels such as Fp2, F4, C4 and F8. Data were resampled -1 ms and -2 ms backward. Results of the discriminant analysis with jack knife method for four type objective varieties, the discriminant rates for two subjects were more than 95 %.

In formal verification of software product families one not only analyses programs, but must act on the artifacts and components which are reused to obtain software products. As the number of products is exponential in the number of artifacts, it is crucial to perform verification in a modular way. When code reuse is based on class inheritance in OO programming, Liskov's principle is a standard device to achieve modular verification. software families, however, employ other variability modeling techniques than inheritance. Delta-oriented programming is an approach to implement a family of programs where code reuse is achieved via gradual transformation of a core program. We define a Liskov principle for delta-oriented programming and show that it achieves modular verification of software families developed in that paradigm. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Autonomous navigation plays important role in mobile robots. In this paper, a navigation controller based on spiking neural networks (SNNs) for mobile robots is presented. The proposed target-reaching navigation controller, in which the reactive architecture is used, is composed of three sub-controllers: the obstacle-avoidance controller and the wall-following controller using spiking neural networks (SNNs), and the goal-reaching controller. The experimental results show that the navigation controller can control the mobile robot to reach the target successfully while avoiding the obstacle and following the wall to get rid of the deadlock caused by local minimum. The proposed navigation controller does not require accurate mathematical models of the environment, and is suitable to unknown and unstructured environment. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

The expected computational power that will become available in the next years and decades will allow the introduction of more accurate simulations at earlier aircraft design stages. It is thus mandatory to identify and consequently develop multi-disciplinary optimization capabilities based on high-fidelity methods enabling the design of the future aircraft. The paper will give an overview of the latest development conducted at DLR in this field. Three representative applications will demonstrate benefits and limitations of the capabilities developed. © 2012 by DLR, German Aerospace Center.

This study presents a new four-model based approach regarding the Ad hoc retrieval task. The approach combines dependence and relevance models with filed-based techniques and the resulted retrieval lists are processed by applying a spam filtering phase. The parameters' estimation for each model is accomplished by optimizing the Mean Average Precision (MAP). All experiments are performed on the Category B part of ClueWeb09 collection. Experimental results indicate that significant improvements are possible with regards to the retrieval effectiveness by adding a field-based modeling and a spam filtering to dependence and relevance models. Also, the results of this study show that the additive feature between methods is conserved. © 2012 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
