In modern driver assistance systems digital maps have proven usefulness for many applications in providing information on the environment around the host vehicle. For future ADAS, relevant to traffic safety, high precision digital maps including detailed information about the course of individual lanes are needed. We introduce a new method for the generation of highly accurate digital maps including lane specific information based on a wide range of raw data sources. We show that the use of arc splines as a representation model of individual lanes is advantageous for both computational efficiency and accuracy. Therefore, this method is useful for a wide variety of applications using digital maps to enrich driving comfort and traffic safety.

In this paper a problem domain and system modelling formalization approach is shown in context of enterprise data synchronization system development case study. Formalization approach is based on topology borrowed from topological functioning model (TFM). TFM uses mathematical foundations that holistically represent complete functionality of the problem and application domains. By applying the proposed topological modelling approach in software development process we aim to enable computation independent model creation in a formal way and to enable transformation from it to platform independent model. Besides that a traceability can be established between problem domain model, solution domain model (or models) and the software code.

This paper presents an economics-based approach for studying the problem of resource allocation among software development phases. Our approach is structured along two parallel axes: theoretical and empirical. We developed a general economic model for analyzing the allocation problem as a constrained profit maximization problem. The model, based on a novel concept of software production function , considers the effects of different allocations of development resources on output measures of the resulting software product. An empirical environment for evaluating and refining the model is presented, and a first exploratory study for characterizing the model′s components and developers′ resource allocation decisions is described. The findings illustrate how the model can be applied and validate its underlying assumptions and usability. Future quantitative empirical studies can refine and substantiate various aspects of the proposed model and ultimately improve the productivity of software development processes.

An overview is provided of six information visualization systems designed specifically for gaining an overview of electronic health records (EHR). The systems discussed all make use of timelines: Lifelines, Lifelines2, KNAVE II, CLEF Visual Navigator, Time-line, and AsbruView. With the exception of Lifelines2, the main user groups targeted are physicians involved in direct patient care. Little attention has been paid towards supporting true secondary use of EHR contents, for activities such as assessing quality of care, patient health and safety monitoring, and clinical trial recruitment. Future work on such systems needs to address the complexity of EHR data, missing and incomplete information, and difficulties in displaying data with differing levels of granularity. © 2010 Association for Computational Linguistics

In this paper we discusses some pros and cons of using AJAX for increasing the usability of Web applications. As AJAX allows Web applications look like desktop applications, it can increase the learnability of a Web application. Nevertheless, AJAX can also be the source of end user frustration if the XMLHttpRequest is not supported by the browser, Javascript is not available, or an Internet connection is missing. We also provide some workarounds for server response time gaps, for example by providing visible user feedback messages) and enabling the back button to work properly.

In modern driver assistance systems the environment perception plays a decisive role in order to evaluate the current traffic scene. The reliable recognition of the drivable area provides essential information for lane departure warning systems which in turn contribute to active road safety. Most systems on lane recognition do reliable work on well marked roads and under good weather and lighting conditions but they fail in more difficult scenarios especially in the absence of lane markings. In this paper we present a two-stage algorithm for the recognition of unmarked lanes using only a single monochrome camera. In the first step our approach transforms texture differences into gray value information in order to intensify the separation of on-road and off-road parts. Then a N-level-set-fitting is applied on this new image which uses a clothoid road model as underlying set model. Minimizing the error function yields to the parameter estimation of the road model. The method is independent of the availability of lane markings or any other landmarks. The parameter propagation to the next frame is done via a standard kalman filter. The given results show the performance of our approach in robust lane recognition under various weather and lighting conditions.

This paper reports on AnnieWAY, an autonomous vehicle that is capable of driving through urban scenarios and that has successfully entered the finals of the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge competition. After describing the main challenges imposed and the major hardware components, we outline the underlying software structure and focus on selected algorithms. Environmental perception mainly relies on a recent laser scanner which delivers both range and reflectivity measurements. While range measurements are used to provide 3D scene geometry, measuring reflectivity allows for robust lane marker detection. Mission and maneuver planning is conducted using a concurrent hierarchical state machine that generates behavior in accordance with California traffic laws. We conclude with a report of the results achieved during the competition. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In software development and maintenance, locating faults is generally a complex and time-consuming process. In order to effectively identify the locations of program faults, several approaches have been proposed. Similarity-aware fault localization (SAFL) is a testing-based fault localization method that utilizes testing information to calculate the suspicion probability of each statement. Dicing is also another method that we have used. In this paper, our proposed method focuses on predicates and their influence, instead of on statements in traditional SAFL. In our method, fuzzy theory, matrix calculating, and some probability are used. Our method detects the importance of each predicate and then provides more test data for programmers to analyze the fault locations. Furthermore, programmers will also gain some important information about the program in order to maintain their program accordingly. In order to speed up the efficiency, we also simplified the program. We performed an experimental study for several programs, together with another two testing-based fault localization (TBFL) approaches. These three methods were discussed in terms of different criteria such as line of code and suspicious code coverage. The experimental results show that the proposed method from our study can decrease the number of codes which have more probability of suspicion than real bugs. © 2008 IEEE.
