The rapid expansion and advancement of deepfake technology, which is specifically designed to create incredibly lifelike facial imagery and video content, has ignited a remarkable level of interest and curiosity across a multitude of fields, including but not limited to the realms of the entertainment industry, forensic analysis, cybersecurity and the innovative creation of digital characters. By harnessing the latest breakthroughs in deep learning methodologies, especially through the implementation of techniques such as Generative Adversarial Networks, Variational Autoencoders, Few-Shot Learning Strategies, and Transformer Neural Networks, the outcomes achieved in the generation of deepfakes have been nothing short of astounding and transformative. Furthermore, the recent advancements in diffusion models have served to invigorate and catalyze ongoing research efforts in this fascinating domain. At the same time, the ongoing evolution of detection technologies is being developed to counteract the potential for misuse associated with deepfakes, effectively addressing critical concerns that range from political manipulation to the dissemination of fake news and the ever-growing issue of cyberbullying. This comprehensive review paper meticulously investigates the most recent developments in both deepfake generation and detection, including around 400 publications, providing an in-depth analysis of the cutting-edge innovations that are shaping this rapidly evolving landscape. Starting with a thorough examination of systematic literature review methodologies, we embark on a journey that delves into the complex technical intricacies inherent in the various techniques used for deepfake generation, comprehensively addressing the challenges faced, potential solutions available, and the nuanced details surrounding manipulation formulations. PhenoProfiler: Advancing Phenotypic Learning for Image-based Drug Discovery

In the field of image-based drug discovery, capturing the phenotypic response of cells to various drug treatments and perturbations is a crucial step. This process involves transforming high-throughput cellular images into quantitative representations for downstream analysis. However, existing methods require computationally extensive and complex multi-step procedures, which can introduce inefficiencies, limit generalizability, and increase potential errors. To address these challenges, we present PhenoProfiler, an innovative model designed to efficiently and effectively extract morphological representations, enabling the elucidation of phenotypic changes induced by treatments. PhenoProfiler is designed as an end-to-end tool that processes whole-slide multi-channel images directly into low-dimensional quantitative representations, eliminating the extensive computational steps required by existing methods. It also includes a multi-objective learning module to enhance robustness, accuracy, and generalization in morphological representation learning. PhenoProfiler is rigorously evaluated on large-scale publicly available datasets, including over 230,000 whole-slide multi-channel images in end-to-end scenarios and more than 8.42 million single-cell images in non-end-to-end settings. Across these benchmarks, PhenoProfiler consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods by up to 20%, demonstrating substantial improvements in both accuracy and robustness. Furthermore, PhenoProfiler uses a tailored phenotype correction strategy to emphasize relative phenotypic changes under treatments, facilitating the detection of biologically meaningful signals. UMAP visualizations of treatment profiles demonstrate PhenoProfiler’s ability to effectively cluster treatments with similar biological annotations, thereby enhancing interpretability. Recent advances in single image super-resolution (SISR) have achieved remarkable performance through deep learning. However, the high computational cost hinders the deployment of SISR models on edge devices. Instead of proposing new SISR models, a new trend is emerging to improve network efficiency by reducing parameters, FLOPs, and inference time through slight modifications to the original models. However, recent methods usually focus on reducing only one of three metrics, i.e., FLOPs, parameters and inference time, which inevitably increases the other two metrics. In this paper, we propose a novel Adaptive Student Inference Network (ASIN) on popular SISR models, which aims at reducing FLOPs and inference time while maintaining the number of parameters and restoring clearer high-resolution images. Specifically, our ASIN divides a SISR model into three components (head, body and tail) and adopts various strategies for each part. For head and tail parts, to ensure the restored images contain more detailed information, a novel auxiliary Enhanced Teacher Network (ETNet) is designed, which is trained with the ground-truth images to obtain more prior knowledge to guide student network to extract more accurate textures using a new knowledge distillation method. For the body part, owing to the varying difficulties of the reconstructions in different regions, we propose an Adaptive Depth Predicted Module (ADPM) to dynamically shorten average depth of network to reduce the computational cost of overall network. Extensive experiments on two datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and state-of-the-art performance of our ASIN compared to its counterparts.

Landmark recognition stands as a prominent classification challenge within the domain of vision and perception, involving the identification and localization of landmarks in images. However, existing landmark recognition methods often fall short in delivering satisfactory performance. A critical issue lies in the lack of simultaneous exploration of local, regional, and global modeling. Intuitively, the local details, regional features, and global structure within an image, especially of a building, significantly contribute to landmark recognition. To address this issue, we propose a novel approach, termed Hierarchical Context Modeling Network (HCMNet), for landmark recognition. In our methodology, we introduce a Hierarchical Context Modeling Block (HCMB) designed with a triplet-branch structure to model image context in a hierarchical manner. These branches consist of the local branch, which leverages a convolutional layer to capture local details, the regional branch focused on extracting regional features through large-kernel asymmetrical convolutional layers, and the global branch aims at encompassing the broader context by incorporating channel attention. To enhance the modeling capacity, we assemble multiple HCMBs into the HCMNet, creating a hierarchical structure. Comprehensive experiments validate the efficacy of the proposed HCMNet for landmark recognition, showcasing its superior performance compared to current methods. The proposed hierarchical context modeling approach proves instrumental in capturing the intricate features essential for accurate landmark recognition.

Background: Endometrial cancer is one of the most common tumors in the female reproductive system and is the third most common gynecological malignancy that causes death after ovarian and cervical cancer. Early diagnosis can significantly improve the 5-year survival rate of patients. With the development of artificial intelligence, computer-assisted diagnosis plays an increasingly important role in improving the accuracy and objectivity of diagnosis and reducing the workload of doctors. However, the absence of publicly available image datasets restricts the application of computer-assisted diagnostic techniques. Methods: In this paper, a publicly available Endometrial Cancer PET/CT Image Dataset for Evaluation of Semantic Segmentation and Detection of Hypermetabolic Regions (ECPC-IDS) are published. Specifically, the segmentation section includes PET and CT images, with 7159 images in multiple formats totally. In order to prove the effectiveness of segmentation on ECPC-IDS, six deep learning semantic segmentation methods are selected to test the image segmentation task. The object detection section also includes PET and CT images, with 3579 images and XML files with annotation information totally. Eight deep learning methods are selected for experiments on the detection task. Results: This study is conduct using deep learning-based semantic segmentation and object detection methods to demonstrate the distinguishability on ECPC-IDS. From a separate perspective, the minimum and maximum values of Dice on PET images are 0.546 and 0.743, respectively. The minimum and maximum values of Dice on CT images are 0.012 and 0.510, respectively. The target detection section's maximum mAP values on PET and CT images are 0.993 and 0.986, respectively. Conclusion: As far as we know, this is the first publicly available dataset of endometrial cancer with a large number of multi-modality images. Radiologists must utilize medical images of multiple modalities for tumor segmentation and diagnosis due to the limitations of medical imaging technology and the diversity of tumor signals. This has led to the development of multimodal learning in medical image segmentation. However, the redundancy among modalities creates challenges for existing subtraction-based joint learning methods, such as misjudging the importance of modalities, ignoring specific modal information, and increasing cognitive load. These thorny issues ultimately decrease segmentation accuracy and increase the risk of overfitting. This paper presents the complementary information mutual learning (CIML) framework, which can mathematically model and address the negative impact of inter-modal redundant information. CIML adopts the idea of addition and removes inter-modal redundant information through inductive bias-driven task decomposition and message passing-based redundancy filtering. CIML first decomposes the multimodal segmentation task into multiple subtasks based on expert prior knowledge, minimizing the information dependence between modalities. Furthermore, CIML introduces a scheme in which each modality can extract information from other modalities additively through message passing. To achieve non-redundancy of extracted information, the redundant filtering is transformed into complementary information learning inspired by the variational information bottleneck. The complementary information learning procedure can be efficiently solved by variational inference and cross-modal spatial attention. Numerical results from the verification task and standard benchmarks indicate that CIML efficiently removes redundant information between modalities, outperforming SOTA methods regarding validation accuracy and segmentation effect. A Novel Algorithm for Vertex Sum Distinguishing Total Coloring Based on Multiobjective Optimization

Graph coloring is an important research field in graph theory. In vertex sum distinguishing total coloring, the constraint condition, that is, the color sum of each vertex is different from that of its associated edges is added on the basis of the normal total coloring. A novel algorithm was designed to increase the vertex sum distinguishing total coloring effciency. Subobjective functions were designed according to the vertex constraint, edge constraint, vertex-edge constraint, and vertex-edge sum constraint to improve the vertex sum distinguishing total coloring efficiency of random graphs. In each subobjective function, iterative swap was performed step by step using the coloring matrix and color set complement, in which the conflict was handled following the idea of impressed variation, thereby realizing the vertex sum distinguishing total coloring of random graphs. In the end, the lower bound of chromatic number in the vertex sum distinguishing total coloring was proven through the theoretical analysis and experimental comparison. Results demonstrate that when the order of a graph is smaller than 1000 and the edge density is smaller than 0.1, the conflict handling function can be converged at a high rate. When the order of the graph is greater than 1000, the convergence rate of the algorithm declines rapidly, and the accurate coloring result can be obtained only by increasing the coloring quantity, indicating that the vertex sum distinguishing total chromatic number of a connected graph with the order of not smaller than 3 ranged from μΣt(G) to μΣt(G)+3. This finding is consistent with the algorithm analysis result. On this basis, this algorithm can effectively complete the vertex sum distinguishing total coloring of random graphs, and its time complexity does not exceed O(n3). Autonomous Vehicle (AV) usage has become predominant in the rapidly evolving landscape of urban transportation. Integrating AVs and non-AVs in the existing traffic infrastructure has significantly increased the complexity of traffic patterns. This research work primes the enhanced Traffic Management System (e-TMS), a solution implemented to expedite Emergency Vehicle (EV) travel in the context of Connected AVs (CAVs) and ensured secured communication employing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) among the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) framework. When an EV is detected, the IoV system verifies the EV's signal using PKI, ensuring its authenticity and integrity by encrypting the communication between the EV and Road Side Units (RSUs). Further, the e-TMS activates the platooning process where CAVs in the EV's lane shift to the adjacent lanes and dynamically form platoons to create a dedicated lane for the EV. To further optimize the platooning process, an Adaptive Smart Leader Selection (ASLS) algorithm is employed to select a leader vehicle spontaneously among the AVs based on the proximity to the EV, communication reliability, and lane position. Radio Detection and Ranging devices aid this platooning process by providing distance and target velocity, which are needed to maintain the required distance between the AVs and ensure safe platoon formation. The e-TMS enhances EV response times and overall traffic flow efficiency and resulted in 27.8% increase in mean speed compared to the traditional methods. © 2014 IEEE.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a chronic disease associated with high mortality and morbidity. Although treatment with drug-eluting stents is the most frequent interventional approach for coronary artery disease, drug-coated balloons (DCBs) constitute an innovative alternative, especially in the presence of certain anatomical conditions in the local coronary vasculature. DCBs allow the fast and homogenous transfer of drugs into the arterial wall, during the balloon inflation. Their use has been established for treating in-stent restenosis caused by stent implantation, while recent clinical trials have shown a satisfactory efficacy in de novo small-vessel disease. Several factors affect DCBs performance including the catheter design, the drug dose and formulation. Cleverballoon focuses on the design and development of an innovative DCB with everolimus. For the realization of the development of this new DCB, an integrated approach, including in- vivo, in-vitro studies and in-silico modelling towards the DCB optimization, is *** Relevance—The proposed study introduces the integration of in- vivo, in-vitro and in silico approaches in the design and development process of a new DCB, following the principles of 3R’s for the replacement, reduction, and refinement of animal and clinical studies.
