Industrial procurement is exposed to an increased service-oriented supplier market. However, industrial e-marketplaces for product-services that are accepted by buying experts are rare. Possible buyer benefits of e-markets such as access to a wider range of markets, accumulation of required information, and increase of market transparency cannot be utilized. Currently, product-services are at best traded within closed silos that offer mainly manual search and comparison capabilities through a web storefront. A lack of existing “generic” industry-sector-specific concepts for service description is a main problem that the potential of e-commerce is not utilized for product-services. This article analyzes the requirements for service representation at e-markets regarding the manufacturing domain. State-of-the-art concepts of business service description are considered at the beginning of this research. Because of the heterogeneity of product-services, a case study was conducted in order to identify relevant product-services in the manufacturing domain. In order to study a real case scenario, a “first-tier supplier” in the automotive industry was used in this research study. This company is specialized in systems engineering and systems serial assembly. Typical product-services of this company source are manufactured products needed for serial production, for example, casting, milling, turning, or injecting molding parts, alongside a wide range of services. Investigating the professional purchasing department was necessary to analyze the requirements in service description throughout the complete buying process, commencing with the conceptual product design stage until the serial product delivery.

A company's economic survivability depends on the trust customers have into the company and its offered solutions. Consequently a company tries to act as a trustworthiness business partner. A difficult task, when customers cannot check the outcome and quality of an offered solution. Especially for Product Service systems (PSS), the service part represents such an intangible performance, which cannot be used and verified by customers before consumption. Consequently, customers must trust a company's promised performance quality before they can experience the service. Service production always involves the customer into the service provision process, as the value is co-created. That is why, the service provider's performance and thus its service production costs rely trusting a customer's input. As trust plays such an important role we integrate it into service costing. In our work we present and evaluate a risk-based costing approach for PSS. The benefit of our cost model is to include risk factors associated with the trustworthiness of customer input. Our contribution to service science is the computation of service costs by the extension of standard Time-Driven Activity-Based Costing (TDABC) including the expected loss due to customer input. In our work we demonstrate the successful inclusion of trust-based risk factors into service costing to improve service cost management in the context of PSS.

Emerging manufacturing systems are becoming complex while their engineering and ramp-up phases have to be as short as possible in order to decrease the reaction time to new market demands as well as to minimize production line down-times causing financial losses. Since engineering knowledge is not shared satisfactorily, virtual commissioning of industrial plants is very complicated. This paper contributes to a better synthesis and analysis of manufacturing lines by integrating the simulation of manufacturing systems with the tool Siemens Plant Simulation and their engineering with Schmid P'X5 Configurator for Montratec. This work presents a diagnosis method for railway traffic security installations. More specifically, the authors present a series of diagnosis charts for passing signals on a railway block equipped with an automatic block signaling installation. These charts are based on the exploitation electric schemes, and are subsequently used to develop a diagnosis software package. The thus developed software package contributes substantially to a reduction of failure detection and remedy for these types of installation faults. The use of the software package eliminates making wrong decisions in the fault detection process, decisions that may result in longer remedy times and, sometimes, to railway traffic events.

This work presents a diagnosis method for detecting track circuits failures on a railway traffic line equipped with an Automatic Block Signalling installation. The diagnosis method uses the installation's electrical schemas, based on which a series of diagnosis charts have been created. Further, the diagnosis charts were used to develop a software package, CDCBla, which substantially contributes to reducing the diagnosis time and human error during failure remedies. The proposed method can also be used as a training package for the maintenance staff. Since the diagnosis method here does not need signal or measurement inputs, using it does not necessitate additional IT knowledge and can be deployed on a mobile computing device (tablet, smart phone).

When searching on the Web, laypersons and professionals have difficulty in determining the quality or trustworthiness of health websites. No simple approach can differentiate among trustworthy and unreliable health websites in the results provided by major search engines such as Google, Yahoo or Bing. The European project Kconnect proposes to classify the reliability and readability levels of health-related Web sites and pages, tools according to the detection of HONcode criteria, the Health On the Net Foundation (HON) Code of Conduct using automated tools that examine how technical the health information contained in each document is. This article focuses on enhancement of automated detection of HONcode criteria in real-time settings. Applications of the approach include integration into the HONcode certification process, and embedding it as generic filtering tool into user-centered health domain search engines as well as into major general search engines such as a Web browser extension.

Data exchange is a critical issue within the multi-disciplinary engineering process of cyber physical production systems (CPPS). AutomationML (AML) is an emerging standard in the this field to represent and exchange artifacts between heterogeneous engineering tools used in mechanical, electrical, and software engineering domains. However, the interoperability of different exchange standards may be needed in order to integrate even further tools in tool chains. For instance, the Performance Model Interchange Format (PMIF) is a common representation devised in the performance engineering domain for model-based system performance analysis and simulation based on Queueing Network Models (QNM). Of course, such aspects are also of particular interest when designing a CPPS. This paper investigates, with the help of a case study, the combination of AML and PMIF as an enabling step towards an early performance validation of CPPS. By this, we close the current gap between CPPS engineering and performance engineering standards.

In this work, we propose an efficient algorithm, which utilizes the combination of discrete cosine transform (DCT) and phase correlation (PC) for fast object detection. To test the algorithm's classification performance and computational complexity we developed a prototype and conducted several experiments with a public available car dataset. Furthermore, we compared our experimental results to a state-of-the-art object detection method. The proposed method uses the energy compaction property of DCT and requires less number of coefficients than fast Fourier transformation (FFT)-based techniques to compute PC. The computational complexity and memory requirements are significantly reduced using this method. According to our results, the proposed algorithm outperforms the baseline method with respect to training time and classification accuracy.
