In this paper, we propose a new time-dependent heu-ristic algorithm for post enrolment-based course timetabling prob-lem. The algorithm operates in two stages: a constructive phase is proposed to insert events into the timetable whilst obeying most hard constraints, and a hill-climbing phase is designed to ensure the timetable meeting all the hard constraints. Each stage is allocated a time limit. The experimental results on instances from the second international timetabling competition show that our algorithm is efficient and competitive with other effective algorithms.

CAEX is one of the most promising standards when it comes to data exchange between engineering tools in the production system automation domain. This is also reflected by the current emergence of AutomationML, which uses CAEX as its core representation data format. Having such standards at hand, the question arises how to deal with the evolution of such standards as is currently happening with the transition from CAEX 2.15 to CAEX 3.0. In this paper, we take a language engineering point of view to the evolution of engineering data formats. In particular, we present how CAEX can be formulated in a model-based framework, which allows to reason about evolution of the data format as well as its impact on the data stored in such evolving formats. By this, not only the migration process of existing data to the new format version is possible, but also a more theoretical investigation on information preservation is possible. We demonstrate the approach by the concrete case of the upcoming CAEX evolution.

Practical installations of illuminance systems use Light Emitting Diodes (LED) more and more. In most of the cases, tests in the field have shown that the details listed on the lights' technical specifications differ from the field values. The present study has been done on 7 W light sources with a 700 lm nominal light flux. We use statistical methods on multiple measurements sets on LEDs to determine the simple and synthetic indicators by which we estimate the homogeneity of the LED sample set and verify the truth of the technical descriptions listed on the packages sold on the market. In various studies on the behavior of LED sources we found significant differences between the values determined luminous fluxes and those listed in the box trading. These findings have led us to conduct tests on larger groups of the same type of LED sources, to see if it complies with the Certificate of Conformity, referring to standard deviation. For the analyzed group it was found that the manufacturer does not comply with this regulation.

The current need for product variation inquires a higher orchestration effort in production to be able to produce at the lowest cost per unit. However, flexibility and low cost per unit are conflicting goals. To deal with this challenge, new types of manufacturing systems have been proposed with the rise of information technologies in the area of discrete manufacturing such as Reconfigurable Manufacturing systems (RMS). Still, high efforts are necessary to implement configuration changes in such systems, which we aim to overcome with a modular Manufacturing Execution System (MES), where functionalities are grouped as reusable blocks provided by a dedicated library. This position paper presents a conceptual framework for modeling MES in terms of the systems Modeling Language (SysML). The overall goal is to define a model-integrated MES as generic solution in order to ease reconfiguration efforts. By the term model-integrated we mean that models are not only used for the design of MES but also during operation. In this paper, we evaluate if it is possible to represent MES by SysML with a use case of modeling a demonstrator manufacturing cell, which utilizes OPC UA as communication protocol for machine connection as well as for providing a service-oriented layer as connection point for the MES.
