This paper addresses the numerical solution of fractional programs with quadratic functions in the ratios. Instead of considering a sum-of-ratios problem directly, we developed an efficient global search algorithm, which is based on two approaches to the problem. The first one adopts a reduction of the fractional minimization problem to the solution of an equation with an optimal value of a parametric d.c. minimization problem. The second approach reduces the original problem to the optimization problem with nonconvex (d.c.) constraints. Hence, the fractional programs can be solved by applying the Global Search theory of d.c. optimization. The global search algorithm developed for sum-of-ratios problems was tested on the examples with quadratic functions in the numerators and denominators of the ratios. The numerical experiments demonstrated that the algorithm performs well when solving rather complicated quadratic sum-of-ratios problems with up to 100 variables or 1000 terms in the sum. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This work addresses the optimistic statement of a bilevel optimization problem with a general d.c. optimization problem at the upper level and a convex optimization problem at the lower level. First, we use the reduction of the bilevel problem to a nonconvex mathematical optimization problem using the well-known Karush-Kuhn-Tucker approach. Then we employ the novel Global Search theory and Exact Penalty theory to solve the resulting nonconvex optimization problem. Following this theory, the special method of local search in this problem is constructed. This method takes into account the structure of the problem in question. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The paper deals with an optimal control problem for the simplest version of a "reduced" linear impulsive continuity equation. The latter is introduced in our recent papers as a model of dynamical ensembles enduring jumps, or impulsive ODEs having a probabilistic uncertainty in the initial data. The model, addressed in the manuscript, is, in fact, equivalent to the mentioned impulsive one, while it is stated within the usual, continuous setup. The price for this reduction is the appearance of an integral constraint on control, which makes the problem non-standard. The main focus of our present study is on the theory of so-called feedback necessary optimality conditions, which are one of the recent achievements in the optimal control theory of ODEs. The paradigmatic version of such a condition, called the feedback maximum (or minimum) principle, is formulated with the use of standard constructions of the classical Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle but is shown to strengthen the latter (in particular, for different pathological cases). One of the main advantages of the feedback maximum principle is due to its natural algorithmic property, which enables using it as an iterative numeric algorithm. The paper presents a version of the feedback maximum principle for linear transport equations with integrally bounded controls. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The light-by-light contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment from the axial-vector mesons exchanges within the nonlocal quark model

The contribution of axial-vector mesons to the muon’s anomalous magnetic moment through a light-by-light process is considered within a nonlocal quark model. The model is based on a four-quark interaction with scalar–pseudoscalar and vector–axial-vector sectors. While the transverse component of the axial-vector corresponds to a spin-1 particle, the unphysical longitudinal component is mixed with a pseudoscalar meson. The model parameters are re-fitted to the pion properties in the presence of π − a1 mixing. The obtained estimation for the light-by-light contribution of a1 + f1 mesons is (3.6 ± 1.8) · 10−11 Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a complete solution for extraction of textual information and tables from PDF with a text layer. The presented solution consist of two parts: PyTabby is a tool for extracting text and tables from PDF with a complex background and layout, and Python wrapper module for Docreader tool. The PyTabby tool extracts text and tables from the low level representation of the PDF format. It enables employment of the additional information excluded in scanned documents and provides improvement of quality and performance compared with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) methods. The presented solution is incorporated into Docreader tool to parse PDF files with a text layer and is used as a part of the TALISMAN technology for social analytics. © 2021 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Inverting Cryptographic Hash Functions via Cube-and-Conquer

MD4 and MD5 are fundamental cryptographic hash functions proposed in the early 1990s. MD4 consists of 48 steps and produces a 128-bit hash given a message of arbitrary finite size. MD5 is a more secure 64-step extension of MD4. Both MD4 and MD5 are vulnerable to practical collision attacks, yet it is still not realistic to invert them, i.e., to find a message given a hash. In 2007, the 39-step version of MD4 was inverted by reducing to SAT and applying a CDCL solver along with the so-called Dobbertin’s constraints. As for MD5, in 2012 its 28-step version was inverted via a CDCL solver for one specified hash without adding any extra constraints. In this study, Cube-and-Conquer (a combination of CDCL and lookahead) is applied to invert step-reduced versions of MD4 and MD5. For this purpose, two algorithms are proposed. The first one generates inverse problems for MD4 by gradually modifying the Dobbertin’s constraints. The second algorithm tries the cubing phase of Cube-and-Conquer with different cutoff thresholds to find the one with the minimum runtime estimate of the conquer phase. This algorithm operates in two modes: (i) estimating the hardness of a given propositional Boolean formula;(ii) incomplete SAT solving of a given satisfiable propositional Boolean formula. While the first algorithm is focused on inverting step-reduced MD4, the second one is not area-specific and is therefore applicable to a variety of classes of hard SAT instances. In this study, 40-, 41-, 42-, and 43-step MD4 are inverted for the first time via the first algorithm and the estimating mode of the second algorithm. Also, 28-step MD5 is inverted for four hashes via the incomplete SAT solving mode of the second algorithm. For three hashes out of them, it is done for the first time. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. A toolset and model data sources for research and developing an environment for Next Generation Sequencing data processing are considered in the paper. The environment is constructed on the base of model transformations targeted to industrial grade systems allowing domain specialists to carry on the Next Generation Sequencing research, which includes genetic data processing, visualization, and data integration. The integration allows one to get rid of restrictions imposed by an application library by its operation set and properties. The technique of the transformation is based on Model Driven Architecture principles and logical inference of the derived models and the code. One of the trends in the development of information technologies and artificial intelligence is intelligent assistants in the form of chatbots or voice assistants, which are actively beginning to be implemented in various domains. In this paper, the modeling and software implementation of a chatbot to support technical personnel in diagnosing aircraft malfunctions are considered. The models of the dialog, elements of the knowledge base implementation, as well as an example of its operation, are described. The constructed models are considered as content ontological patterns and describe the object of the study, the malfunction, and the relationships between the signs of the malfunction and its causes. These templates are used in the design of a knowledge base, containing logical rules presented in the form of decision tables of a special type. The novelty of the proposed solution is the use as a methodological basis of the principles of model-driven development in the context of creating problem-specific virtual assistants.

We propose an approach to finding the roots of systems of quadratic equations in a box. This approach is based on a reduction to an auxiliary optimization problem. The auxiliary problem turns out to be, in general, a nonconvex optimization problem, with the objective function and inequality constraints given by d.c. functions. We use the linearization technique with respect to the basic nonconvexity and box partition procedure to try to find all solutions of the system or proof that there are no solutions in the box. The results of the computational simulation are given. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
