A constructive logical method for the synthesis of the characteristic matrix of a linear binary dynamical system with a given set of one-point attractors and one-step dynamics of reaching this set from any state is proposed. The problem conditions are written as a quantified Boolean formula with subsequent verification of its truth using the QSAT solver. This solver provide the values of the elements of the required matrix as a certificate. The proposed method implementation is performed using automation tools for constructing and executing composite services in an applied microservices package for solving problems of qualitative research of binary dynamic systems. These tools provide cloud services for getting a quantified Boolean formula in QDIMACS format, verifying its truth, getting a constructive solution to the considered problem, and supporting synchronization of cloud and local data in a hybrid cloud infrastructure using Dew Computing. © 2021 Croatian Society MIPRO.

Staff scheduling is a key component of supporting and increasing competitiveness for many service enterprises. This is of especially urgent concern for organizations that provide service on a twenty-four hour basis and often encounter significant fluctuations of demand. By scheduling personnel, the employers have also to strictly follow local laws, industrial regulations, and workload agreements that may considerably affect the final schedule. Staff preferences have also to be taken into account when planning work schedules, since it may reduce turnover and increase productivity. In this paper we consider a staff scheduling problem that arise in the industrial fields where the demand in staff is highly dynamic and varies within time intervals throughout a day. The goal is to assign each employee with a shift for each day of a planning horizon so as to minimize the sum of unsatisfied demand over all time intervals subject to hard workplace constraints. Note that each employee may have his/her day-specific set of pre-defined shifts and a set of work-rule constraints. We formulate the scheduling problem as a mixed-integer program. We develop several fast two-stage heuristic algorithms that includes a constructive step to find an initial solution followed by fast local search procedures. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches on a number of real-world huge-scale scheduling problems involving thousands of employees. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

We present a robust, parallel primal-dual heuristic algorithm for the k-medoids clustering problem, a widely utilized method in data mining and machine learning. Our approach surpasses current algorithms by effectively addressing their limitations, such as time-consuming distance matrix calculations, inefficient nearest-neighbor searches, and difficulties in handling large-scale datasets. To overcome these challenges, we employ an efficient parallel implementation, combined with a pioneering subgradient search algorithm. We evaluate our algorithm on the BIRCH and Stanford Dog datasets and demonstrate its superiority over existing k-medoids clustering algorithms in terms of solution quality and run time. Additionally, we introduce a novel vectorization technique that enables our algorithm to handle various types of data, such as images, text, and point data. Overall, our work contributes to the field of data mining and machine learning by providing an efficient and effective solution for the k-medoids clustering problem. The proposed algorithm offers improved performance, and versatility, making it a valuable tool for a wide range of applications. © 2023 IEEE.

We address a variation of the multi-skill resource-constrained project scheduling problem motivated by the need to find a quality schedule for the construction activities related to rolling-out a large network of mobile stations. The network roll-out (NRO) is a complex industrial project aimed at deploying a set of mobile stations in certain region. This requires attracting a set of contractors, who can provide worker teams that have skills to execute specific project activities depending on their type. The problem also involves some additional specific industrial requirements related to how the contractors’ workload should be distributed during the project duration (workload stability constraints). Other important industrial constraints are the precedence redundancy constraints on the project activities. We formulate this problem as a mixed-integer linear program that can be viewed as a disaggregated time-indexed integer programming formulation with pulse variables. To find quality feasible solutions of the problem, we propose a two-phase MIP heuristic consisting of (i) a relax-and-fix heuristic followed by (ii) a large neighborhood search. The effectiveness of the proposed solution approach is demonstrated in extensive computational experiments on real world problem instances. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This paper studies the problem of algebraic cryptanalysis where state-of-the-art SAT solvers are used to invert some cryptographic function. We define a new metric of the hardness of CNF formulas that encode the corresponding cryptanalysis problems. The introduced metric is similar to the well-known tree-like metrics used in the theory of propositional proofs. However, unlike the latter, the new metric can be effectively estimated in application to specific cryptographic functions. The corresponding approach combines the Monte Carlo method and metaheuristic black-box optimization algorithms. The proposed algorithms require a large amount of computational resources, and for their experimental evaluation we used a supercomputer. In the experiments, we applied the proposed metrics to construct estimations of guess-and-determine attacks on the compression function of the well-known MD4 cryptographic hash algorithm. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Abstract: Using the software developed on the basis of the computer algebra system Mathematica,we study the rotational motion along the circular orbit of a satellite-gyrostat in a Newtoniancentral field of forces. The linearized equations of a perturbed motion in the vicinity of the relativeequilibrium of the system are constructed on a computer in symbolic form, and the necessarystability conditions are obtained for the equilibrium. Implementing the parametric analysis of thederived inequalities, we consider one of the cases when the vector of the gyrostatic moment of thesystem lies in one of the planes formed by the principal central axes of inertia. The obtainedstability regions have an analytical form or a graphical representation as 2D images. © 2020, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

In this paper we analyze recent work [10] by Hone, Roberts and Vanhaecke, where the so-called Volterra map was introduced via the Lax equation that looks similar to the Lax representation for the Mumford’s system [21]. This map turns out to be birational and a corresponding dynamical system on an affine space Mg of dimension 3g + 1 was associated with it. This mapping is related to some discrete equation of the order 2g + 1 associated with the Stieltjes continued fraction expansion of a certain function on a hyperelliptic (elliptic) curve of genus g ≥ 1. The authors of the paper provides examples of this equation for the simplest cases g = 1 and g = 2, but for higher values of g, corresponding equation turns out to be too cumbersome to write them out. We present an approach in which the mentioned (2g+1)-order equation can be written out for all values of g ≥ 1 in a compact form. This equation is not new and can be found, for example, in [18]. An essential point in our framework is the use of special class of discrete polynomials which as shown to be closely related to the Stieltjes continued fraction. On the one hand, this allows us to generalize some of the results of the work [10]. On the other hand, many things in this approach can be presented in a more compact and unified form. Ultimately, we believe that this allows us to give a new perspective on this topic. © 2025, CC BY.

The light-by-light contribution to the muon g − 2 within the nonlocal chiral quark model with vector and axial-vector mesons

The hadronic light-by-light contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment is calculated in the framework of a nonlocal quark model with scalar–pseudoscalar and vector–axial-vector channels. The effect of the dressing of internal photons by vector mesons is found to be tiny. As a result, the contribution from the non-strange quark loop is aHLbLµLoop = (96 ± 15.4) × 10−11. The total value, including meson exchanges and the contribution of strange particles, is aHLbLµ = (157 ± 10.6)×10−11 Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Abstract: We consider a system of two nonlinear second-order parabolic equations with *** of this type are applied in chemical kinetics to describe reaction-diffusion processes. Weprove the existence and uniqueness theorem of an analytic solution having the diffusion-wave typeat a given wave front. The proof is constructive, and the solution had the form of a power serieswith recursively calculated coefficients. Moreover, we propose some numerical algorithm based onthe boundary element method whose verification uses the segments of analytic solutions. © 2021, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
