Constant changes have marked the industry, and cyber-physical systems have offered great potential in Industry 4.0 on production processes, allowing the integration of computational intelligence and real-time processing. In this context, this paper proposes a modular hardware system for industrial applications according to a plug & play concept. The proposed system comprises a processing module (mPP) and specific expansion modules (mEXs). The mPP is responsible for administrating the network/communication. It collects data from the mEXs, extracts features, processes the features through artificial intelligence, and interacts with the production process. The mEXs comprise sensors, conditioning circuits, and an analog/digital converter. They are responsible for acquiring field signals and their transmission to the mPP. The proposed system is designed for operating with electrical protection, allowing reliable operation of the mPP and mEXs. For evaluating and demonstrating the proposed system in a real scenario, we applied it in a case study for non-intrusive energy load disaggregation. © 2023 IEEE.

Next-Generation Crowdsensing Networks (NGCNs) have become increasingly critical for smart cities, where data privacy and quality are pivotal concerns. Traditional trust mechanisms in crowdsensing mainly rely on static trust models, which are insufficient for dynamic security requirements. Zero-Trust security represents a promising opportunity, yet coming with notable challenges in NGCNs, including Unknown Workers Online Recruitment (UWOR), Information Elicitation Without Verification (IEWV), Privacy Preserving Data Evaluation (PPDE), and Dynamic Trust Abrupt Shift (DTAS). To address these challenges, we propose a Credibility-aware and Privacy-preserving Data collection scheme with Zero-trust (CPDZ) for secure and quality data collection in NGCNs. First, our CPDZ scheme encompasses a quality worker recruitment strategy with combinatorial multi-armed bandit models, utilizing Thompson Sampling for the secure and efficient resolution of the UWOR. Second, an active dispatching scheme for unmanned aerial vehicles is crafted to collect data as a gold standard to assist in overcoming the IEWV challenge. Third, as for the PPDE challenge, we propose a lightweight privacy-preserving scheme for dependable truth discovery and secure trust verification. Fourth, the DTAS challenge is managed by a dual verification scheme that integrates short-term and long-term trust assessments, ensuring stability and adaptability of the zero-trust security in our CPDZ scheme. Experiments confirm the superiority of our CPDZ scheme, showing a 12.5% increase in recruitment revenue and a 57.8% reduction in relative error compared to existing approaches. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

In the modern era of rapidly advancing technology, organizations across various sectors are continuously seeking innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency, streamline processes, and improve overall productivity. One area that significantly impacts these goals is the management of employee/student attendance. Traditional manual attendance tracking methods often lead to inaccuracies, inefficiencies, and increased administrative overhead. Recognizing this challenge, this proposal is to bring forth developing a microcontroller-based implementation of a Fingerprint-Based Attendance System. The system uses the power of biometric authentication to improve how attendance is recorded and managed. Firstly, this system provides real-time attendance tracking, reducing the delay in data processing and enabling immediate access to attendance records. Secondly, the proposed system ensures a high level of accuracy in attendance recording. Thirdly, this system promotes enhanced security. © 2024 IEEE.

Service robots are undergoing a massification process similar to what happened with personal computers and cell phones a few decades ago. Their ubiquitous coexistence and interaction with humans requires that their representation models of the workspace go beyond metric information used for safe navigation. They are also required to assign semantic meaning to objects and places, i.e. to build semantic maps, in order to understand scenes and engage in human-like interactions. This paper proposes the Semantic MAPping (SMAP) framework to provide a service robot operating in human populated environments with a semantic mapping layer on top of a metric SLAM layer. SMAP is modular, expandable, and efficient enough to run locally on the robot. It has been implemented in Robot Operating System 2 (ROS2) using modular Docker containers. Preliminary experiments with a Pioneer 3-DX mobile robot having a system on module Nvidia Jetson AGX Xavier demonstrated its potential for future service robotics applications.

In an era of rapid technological innovation, this article provides a comprehensive examination of Gallium Nitride (GaN) Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistors (MOSFETs). The background section highlights the emergence and application of GaN MOSFETs and their significant advantages over silicon-based and Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs, such as smaller size, faster switching speed, less heat generation, and optimum operation at high temperatures, indicating that GaN MOSFETs are leading us into a more advanced, digitized future. We address the problem of safely coordinating a network of Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) in conflict areas of a traffic network. Such problems can be solved through a combination of tractable optimal control problems and Control Barrier Functions (CBFs) that guarantee the satisfaction of all constraints. These solutions can be reduced to a sequence of Quadratic Programs (QPs) which are efficiently solved online over discrete time steps. However, guaranteeing the feasibility of the CBF-based QP method within each discretized time interval requires the careful selection of time steps which need to be sufficiently small. This creates computational requirements and communication rates between agents which may limit the controller's application to real CAVs. We tackle this limitation by adopting an event-triggered control approach for CAVs such that the next QP is triggered by properly defined events with a safety guarantee. We present a laboratory-scale test bed developed to emulate merging roadways using mobile robots as CAVs. We present results to demonstrate how the event-triggered scheme is computationally efficient and can handle measurement uncertainties and noise compared to time-driven control while guaranteeing safety. © 2023 IEEE.

The damping performance evaluation for electromechanical oscillations in power systems is crucial for the stable operation of modern power *** this paper,the connection between two commonly-used damping performance evaluation methods,i.e.,the damping torque analysis(DTA)and energy flow analysis(EFA),are systematically examined and revealed for the better understanding of the oscillatory damping ***,a concept of the aggregated damping torque coefficient is proposed and derived based on DTA of multi-machine power systems,which can characterize the integration effect of the damping contribution from the whole power ***,the pre-processing of measurements at the terminal of a local generator is conducted for EFA,and a concept of the frequency-decomposed energy attenuation coefficient is defined to screen the damping contribution with respect to the interested *** this basis,the frequency spectrum analysis of the energy attenuation coefficient is employed to rigorously prove that the results of DTA and EFA are essentially equivalent,which is valid for arbitrary types of synchronous generator models in multi-machine power ***,the consistency between the aggregated damping torque coefficient and frequency-decomposed energy attenuation coefficient is further verified by the numerical calculation in case *** relationship between the proposed coefficients and the eigenvalue(or damping ratio)is finally revealed,which consolidates the application of the proposed concepts in the damping performance evaluation.

Power system simulations that extend over a time period of minutes,hours,or even longer are called extendedterm *** power systems evolve into complex systems with increasing interdependencies and richer dynamic behaviors across a wide range of timescales,extendedterm simulation is needed for many power system analysis tasks(e.g.,resilience analysis,renewable energy integration,cascading failures),and there is an urgent need for efficient and robust extendedterm simulation *** conventional approaches are insufficient for dealing with the extendedterm simulation of multitimescale *** paper proposes an extendedterm simulation approach based on the semianalytical simulation(SAS)*** accuracy and computational efficiency are backed by SAS's high accuracy in eventdriven simulation,larger and adaptive time steps,and flexible switching between fulldynamic and quasisteadystate(QSS)*** used this proposed extendedterm simulation approach to evaluate bulk power system restoration plans,and it demonstrates satisfactory accuracy and efficiency in this complex simulation task.

At the early commercialization stage of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCVs), there is a strong causal relationship between HFCV parc and hydrogen refueling stations (HRSs) planning, also known as indirect network effects. This is a crucial factor that hasn't been considered and cannot be ignored in the hydrogen supply infrastructure planning (HSIP) problem. To model the indirect network effects, we quantify the effect of HRS planning on HFCV parc in detail by proposing the calculation method of drivers' fuel buffer, defining hydrogen refueling convenience, and incorporating coupled constraints between the hydrogen network and transportation network. Further, we characterize the effect of HFCVs on HRS planning by constructing a decision-dependent distributionally robust optimization problem considering the HFCV parc uncertainty. We innovatively quantify the upper bound of the ambiguity set of Wasserstein associated with both the endogenous and exogenous factors. We propose effective linearization methods to deal with the nonlinear constraints in the indirect network effects model and transform the two-stage optimization problem into a solvable MILP problem. The simulation results show that the proposed method can obtain more economical investment decisions and achieve higher energy utilization efficiency. More importantly, in this planning framework, investors can set model parameters more flexibly according to the situation of the HFCV market, thereby promoting the popularization of HFCVs. © 2024 IEEE.

In computer vision,emotion recognition using facial expression images is considered an important research *** learning advances in recent years have aided in attaining improved results in this *** to recent studies,multiple facial expressions may be included in facial photographs representing a particular type of *** is feasible and useful to convert face photos into collections of visual words and carry out global expression *** main contribution of this paper is to propose a facial expression recognitionmodel(FERM)depending on an optimized Support Vector Machine(SVM).To test the performance of the proposed model(FERM),AffectNet is *** uses 1250 emotion-related keywords in six different languages to search three major search engines and get over 1,000,000 facial photos *** FERM is composed of three main phases:(i)the Data preparation phase,(ii)Applying grid search for optimization,and(iii)the categorization *** discriminant analysis(LDA)is used to categorize the data into eight labels(neutral,happy,sad,surprised,fear,disgust,angry,and contempt).Due to using LDA,the performance of categorization via SVM has been obviously *** search is used to find the optimal values for hyperparameters of SVM(C and gamma).The proposed optimized SVM algorithm has achieved an accuracy of 99%and a 98%F1 score.
