Challenges and approaches of single-crystal Ni-rich layered cathodes in lithium batteries

High energy density and high safety are incompatible with each other in a lithium battery, which challenges today's energy storage and power applications. Ni-rich layered transition metal oxides(NMCs) have been identified as the primary cathode candidate for powering next-generation electric vehicles and have been extensively studied in the last two decades, leading to the fast growth of their market share, including both polycrystalline and single-crystal NMC cathodes. Single-crystal NMCs appear to be superior to polycrystalline NMCs, especially at low Ni content(≤60%). However, Ni-rich single-crystal NMC cathodes experience even faster capacity decay than polycrystalline NMC cathodes, rendering them unsuitable for practical application. Accordingly, this work will systematically review the attenuation mechanism of single-crystal NMCs and generate fresh insights into valuable research pathways. This perspective will provide a direction for the development of Ni-rich single-crystal NMC cathodes.

Multimode rotation-symmetric bosonic codes from homological rotor codes

We develop quantum information processing primitives for the planar rotor, the state space of a particle on a circle. The n-rotor Clifford group, U(1)n(n+1)/2⋊GLn(Z), is represented by continuous U(1) gates generated by polynomials quadratic in angular momenta, as well as discrete GLn(Z) gates generated by momentum sign-flip and sum gates. Our understanding of this group allows us to establish connections between homological rotor error-correcting codes [Vuillot, Ciani, and Terhal, Commun. Math. Phys. 405, 53 (2024)] and oscillator quantum codes, including Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill codes and rotation-symmetric bosonic codes. Inspired by homological rotor codes, we provide a systematic construction of multimode rotation-symmetric bosonic codes by making a parallel between oscillator Fock states and rotor states with fixed non-negative angular momentum. This family of homological number-phase codes protects against dephasing and changes in occupation number. Encoding and decoding circuits for these codes can be derived from the corresponding rotor Clifford operations. As a result of independent interest, we show how to nondestructively measure the oscillator phase using conditional occupation-number addition and postselection. We also outline several rotor and oscillator varieties of the Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill-stabilizer codes [Phys. Rev. Lett. 125, 080503 (2020).].

March algorithm is a series of algorithms commonly used for memory testing, aiming to detect and diagnose faults in memory. The continuously evolving March algorithms are capable of detecting an increasing number of complex faults. However, the question of whether March algorithm can achieve the intended design goal, i.e., achieving full coverage of theoretically detectable faults, currently lacks practical validation methods. One approach to address this issue is to conduct formal verification of the fault detection capability of March algorithm on a software platform. Therefore, this paper proposes a method that utilizes SpinalHDL to model the fault behavior of memory cells and March algorithm. By simulating the progression of March algorithm within the memory cells, reaching sensitization conditions during the progression, injecting faults into the memory cells, and checking whether March algorithm can detect these faults, the fault detection capability of March algorithm can be validated to determine if it meets the design expectations. © 2024 IEEE.

A Digital Twin and Consensus Empowered Cooperative Control Framework for Platoon-Based Autonomous Driving

Platoon-based autonomous driving is indispensable for traffic automation,but it confronts substantial constraints in rugged terrains with unreliable links and scarce communication *** paper proposes a novel hierarchical Digital Twin(DT)and consensus empowered cooperative control framework for safe driving in harsh ***,leveraging intra-platoon information exchange,one platoon-level DT is constructed on the leader and multiple vehicle-level DTs are distributed among platoon *** leader first makes critical platoon-driving decisions based on the platoon-level ***,considering the impact of unreliable links on the platoon-level DT accuracy and the consequent risk of unsafe decision-making,a distributed consensus scheme is proposed to negotiate critical decisions *** successful negotiation,vehicles proceed to execute critical decisions,relying on their vehicle-level ***,a Space-Air-Ground-Integrated-Network(SAGIN)enabled information exchange is utilized to update the platoon-level DT for subsequent safe decision-making in scenarios with unreliable links,no roadside units,and obstructed ***,based on this framework,an adaptive platooning scheme is designed to minimize total delay and ensure driving *** results indicate that our proposed scheme improves driving safety by 21.1％and reduces total delay by 24.2％in harsh areas compared with existing approaches.

Accurate traffic sign data recognition is crucial for enhancing safety in autonomous driving system. However, recognizing traffic signs from natural scenes is challenging due to factors like dim lighting, occlusion, and blurriness, which make traditional deep learning algorithms inefficient. These algorithms require a larger number of parameters to construct network models to achieve higher recognition accuracy. Balancing parameter quantity and accuracy, and building an efficient road traffic sign recognition system, is an important research topic in the field of autonomous driving. In response to these challenges, we introduce a novel architecture named Dynamic Feature Extraction-Efficient Vision Transformer (DFE-EViT). This innovative design comprises two components: a dynamic feature extraction network and an Efficient Vision Transformer (EViT) classifier. By synergizing local information and global receptive fields, this architecture is uniquely equipped to handle intricate and dynamic traffic sign recognition scenarios. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper improves the efficiency of road traffic sign recognition in natural scenes, and the network has the advantages of small parameter size and high recognition accuracy. The model proposed in this paper has only 0.859M parameters, but the accuracy can reach 98.4%. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Most existing text-to-image person retrieval methods usually assume that the training image-text pairs are perfectly aligned;however, the noisy correspondence(NC) issue (i.e., incorrect or unreliable alignment) exists due to poor image quality and labeling errors. Additionally, random masking augmentation may inadvertently discard critical semantic content, introducing noisy matches between images and text descriptions. To address the above two challenges, we propose a noise label suppression method to mitigate NC and an Attention-Weighted Selective Mask (AWM) strategy to resolve the issues caused by random masking. Specifically, the Bidirectional Similarity Distribution Matching (BSDM) loss enables the model to effectively learn from positive pairs while preventing it from over-relying on them, thereby mitigating the risk of overfitting to noisy labels. In conjunction with this, Weight Adjustment Focal (WAF) loss improves the model's ability to handle hard samples. Furthermore, AWM processes raw images through an EMA version of the image encoder, selectively retaining tokens with strong semantic connections to the text, enabling better feature extraction. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in addressing noise-related issues and improving retrieval performance. © 2025 IEEE.

Faithful geometric measures for genuine tripartite entanglement

We present a faithful geometric picture for genuine tripartite entanglement of discrete, continuous, and hybrid quantum systems. We first find that the triangle relation Ei|jkα≤Ej|ikα+Ek|ijα holds for all subadditive bipartite entanglement measure E, all permutations under parties i,j,k, all α∈[0,1], and all pure tripartite states. Then, we rigorously prove that the nonobtuse triangle area, enclosed by side Eα with 0<α≤1/2, is a measure for genuine tripartite entanglement. Finally, it is significantly strengthened for qubits that given a set of subadditive and nonsubadditive measures, some state is always found to violate the triangle relation for any α>1, and the triangle area is not a measure for any α>1/2. Our results pave the way to study discrete and continuous multipartite entanglement within a unified framework.
