In this paper, the feasibility of using commercial power Silicon Carbide (SiC) Schottky diodes as a current mode γ-radiation detector have been examined. Diodes with almost identical electric characteristics are purchased from two different manufacturers, On Semiconductor and RoHM. They have been tested under gamma radiation exposure from a Co-60 source. The current response during irradiation has been measured for various dose rates with reversed diode bias. Investigated range of dose rates was from 0.258 Gy/h to 26.312 Gy/h, and reverse diode bias values were 10 V, 20 V, 50 V, 100 V and 200 V. Tested Schottky diodes produce stable current response for the investigated dose rates. Although the manufacturers are different, the results show that the dosimetric characteristics of these diodes have an excellent match. Sensitivity was proportional to the applied reverse bias voltage. A simple power-law can very well describe the dependence of measured radiation-induced current on dose rate.

In this paper, we propose an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-based (OFDM-based) underwater acoustic multimedia system. An essential feature of this system is that it offers greater power and schemes with significant error protection for the transmission of sensor data information requiring a higher quality of service (QoS). To realize maximum resource utilization or minimum total transmission power, we also include an adaptive modulation strategy into the system. The proposed underwater acoustic multimedia system employs high power, low speed modulation, and schemes providing significant error protection for the transmission of sensor data messages requiring a stringent bit-error rate (BER). In contrast, low power, high speed modulation, and less capable error protection schemes are provided for messages that can tolerate a high BER. A simulation was carried out to verify the functionality of the proposed system in a practical underwater acoustic multimedia scenario.

This paper investigates organization problems of large wireless sensor networks. In spite of their random deployment, nodes have to organize themselves as energy efficient as possible to avoid redundant sensor and transceiver tasks. In addition to energy awareness, the network has to guarantee complete sensor coverage and connectivity as long as possible. This paper presents a novel clustering algorithm, which allows building up clusters without knowledge about their position. Next to the advantage that only one node per cluster has to be active at each time, also no node has to localize itself. We compared our developed algorithm with former clustering and redundancy detection approaches in terms of nodes per cluster and coverage abilities.
