Due to the semantic gap, the low-level features are not able to semantically represent images well. Besides, traditional semantic related image representation may not be able to cope with large inter class variations and are not very ro- bust to noise. To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel image representation method in the sub- semantic space. First, examplar classifiers are trained by separating each training image from the others and serve as the weak semantic similarity measurement. Then a graph is constructed by combining the visual similarity and weak se- mantic similarity of these training images. We partition this graph into visually and semantically similar sub-sets. Each sub-set of images are then used to train classifiers in order to separate this sub-set from the others. The learned sub-set classifiers are then used to construct a sub-semantic space based representation of images. This sub-semantic space is not only more semantically meaningful but also more reli- Able and resistant to noise. Finally, we make categorization of images using this sub-semantic space based representation on several public datasets to demonstrate the e®ectiveness of the proposed method. Copyright © 2013 ACM.

The bag of visual words model (BoW) and its variants have demonstrate their effectiveness for visual applications and have been widely used by researchers. The BoW model first extracts local features and generates the corresponding codebook, the elements of a codebook are viewed as visual words. The local features within each image are then encoded to get the final histogram representation. However, the codebook is dataset dependent and has to be generated for each image dataset. This costs a lot of computational time and weakens the generalization power of the BoW model. To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose to undo the dataset bias by codebook linear transformation. To represent every points within the local feature space using Euclidean distance, the number of bases should be no less than the space dimensions. Hence, each codebook can be viewed as a linear transformation of these bases. In this way, we can transform the pre-learned codebooks for a new dataset. However, not all of the visual words are equally important for the new dataset, it would be more effective if we can make some selection using sparsity constraints and choose the most discriminative visual words for transformation. We propose an alternative optimization algorithm to jointly search for the optimal linear transformation matrixes and the encoding parameters. Developing centralized controllers for large-scale systems, e.g. complex chemical processes, electrical power networks, is an important, yet challenging problem. Typically, it would be of advantage if one could divide the problem into smaller parts (or subproblems), and to opt for a decentralized or distributed alternative. On the other hand, due to physical interconnections between subsystems, it is often complicated to find such a solution. Additionally, performance loss or even instability of the overall system can arise if the decentralization is not done properly. It is, therefore, fundamental to develop suitable distributed/decentralized techniques in order to avoid these issues. In this paper, we propose a decentralized dissipativity-based nonlinear model predictive control strategy for cascades of physically interconnected systems, e.g cascades of hydroelectric power plants, multi-cell batteries. Under mild assumptions, we prove that the control method guarantees overall stability by independently enforcing stability of the local subsystems. This allows for efficient decentralized solutions. Furthermore, the local controllers only exchange limited information and no model of the neighbor systems is required, facilitating decoupled local controller design. Two interconnected water tanks are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. © 2012 IFAC.

Agent-based evacuation modeling approach is gained more and more attention for investigating human cognitive capabilities and social behaviors in building fires. This paper mainly overviews the research about various agent-based evacuation models. For the decision-making reflects the intelligence of agent individual, we define three types of behavior decision-making models for agent individual based on the collected literatures and sum up the characteristics of each type. Aiming at crowd' important influence on evacuation processes, we also sum up two types of agent-based crowd modeling approaches to simulate crowd evacuation processes and give corresponding cases. Finally, after summing up the existing problems, the outlooks of the research from computaional experiments point of view is proposed. © 2012 IEEE.

In order to overcome the drawbacks of the conventional nonlinearity inversion control method for block-oriented systems, a Multi-PI control method is proposed. The virtue of the proposed method is that the classic PI control algorithm is applied to complex nonlinear systems, which largely simplifies the control problems and improves control performances. Simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed Multi-PI control method for block-oriented systems with strong nonlinearity. © 2012 Springer-Verlag London Limited.

In this paper, global exponential stochastic stability based continuous gain-scheduled robust L-two-L- infinity filtering problem is studied for a class of stochastic neutral systems subject to time-varying parameters. First, the stochastic time-varying neutral systems are described by a series of stochastic time-constant systems at some selected time points, then based on stochastic Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional approach, a new globally exponentially stochastically stabilizable criterion is derived for each of the jumping system by means of linear matrix inequalities. Subsequently, L- two-L-infinity filtering systems are designed for such linear jump systems. Finally; continuous gain-scheduled approach is employed to design time-varying filter systems for the whole working region. A simulation example shows the effectiveness and potential of the developed techniques.

This paper is concerned with minimum error entropy filter design for non-linear Networked control Systems (NCSs) with multiple-packet transmission mechanism. Since the error of the filter in NCSs is generally non-Gaussian, the filter is designed under the information theoretic learning frame. The convergent condition of the proposed filter is established.
