This paper presents a methodology for assessing the possibility to receive the signals from the Global Navigation Satellite systems (GNSS) by the receivers with the Adaptive Antenna Arrays (AAA). The methodology is based on the estimation of the steady-state Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at the AAA output. The SNR is estimated over all the possible directions of the signal source angular locations. This methodology is demonstrated by using the examples of the steady-state behavior of the widely used Side Lobe Canceller (SLC) AAA and the Linearly Constrained (LC) AAA with the beam constraint. The simulation demonstrates that the satellite signals can be received from about 30% directions of the spherical angular space in the case of a rectangular AAA with $2 \times {4}$ antennas after the suppressing of 7 interfering signals. It is about a 10% bigger value comparing to that of the AAA in the initial nonadaptive stage. If to consider the upper hemisphere of space only, then this value is doubled. In this experiment, both of the considered AAA demonstrate about the same performance from the interference suppression and informational signals receiving points of view. This efficiency might be different in another scenario. The generic architecture and computational procedures of the AAA used in the considered simulations and computations are also presented. The procedures are based on the usage of the Recursive Least Squares adaptive filtering algorithm.

An Active Noise control (ANC) system based on a modified architecture is considered. This architecture allows to accelerate the convergence of the adaptive filtering algorithms in use. Besides, it allows to use the most efficient Recursive Least Squares adaptive filtering algorithms which provide the fastest convergence comparing to the gradient search-based adaptive algorithms. The architecture of the ANC system and its mathematic description are presented. The simulation results demonstrate the ANC system performance. It is shown, that the number of the adaptive filter weighs can be decreased about 30% of the theoretically required value without any observable loss of the ANC performance. This is possible because of fading shape of the primary and secondary path acoustic impulse responses. As the result, the contribution of the impulse response “tails” to the signals at the error microphone of the ANC system is comparable with that of the ambient noise. This also allows to decrease the required number of the adaptive filter weights and to decrease the computational resources required to the implementation of the ANC system.

Variable phase-pole machines possess the capability to expand their operational range by employing magnetic pole change while adhering to the same electrical voltage and current limits. This paper proposes a strategy to achieve a pole change with constant torque while simultaneously optimizing current distributions for stator copper loss minimization. The overall outcome is the ability to facilitate smooth dq0 current transitions while reducing the energy consumption of variable phase-pole machine drives. Experimental results affirm the efficacy of this approach during the pole change process. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper addresses the problem of collaboratively satisfying long-term spatial constraints in multi-agent systems. Each agent is subject to spatial constraints, expressed as inequalities, which may depend on the positions of other agents with whom they may or may not have direct communication. These constraints need to be satisfied asymptotically or after an unknown finite time. The agents’ objective is to collectively achieve a formation that fulfills all constraints. The problem is initially framed as a centralized unconstrained optimization, where the solution yields the optimal configuration by maximizing an objective function that reflects the degree of constraint satisfaction. This function encourages collaboration, ensuring agents help each other meet their constraints while fulfilling their own. When the constraints are infeasible, agents converge to a least-violating solution. A distributed consensus-based optimization scheme is then introduced, which approximates the centralized solution, leading to the development of distributed controllers for single-integrator agents. Fault diagnosis of rotating machinery driven by induction motors has received increasing attention. Current diagnostic methods, which can be performed on existing inverters or current transformers of three-phase induction machines, have become a more economical and reliable alternative to vibration diagnostic methods. Existing references mainly focus on the stator current analysis of single-phase, but most single-phase current analysis methods utilize only a fraction of the total information accessible in the three-phase system. Field experience shows that zero-sequence current (ZSC) has more distinctive fault characteristics compared to single-phase current, and therefore it is better to use in mechanical fault detection and diagnostic tasks. This article proposes a novel sparse learning-based method for ZSC analysis for induction rotating motor drive fault diagnosis. First, it elaborates and compares the effectiveness of ZSC in revealing fault characteristics compared with single-phase current by analyzing the fault diagnosis mechanism of ZSC. In addition, the method proposes a correlation entropy-enhanced sparse learning method for the problem of high-frequency noise and interference in the ZSC signals, so as to enhance the learning of the features of the noise-containing signals. The diagnostic efficacy of the proposed method has been verified through experiments on two real datasets. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Eco-friendly freight operations are crucial for decarbonizing the transportation sector. Systematic analysis of policy measures requires a principled modeling approach. While the commonly used model referred to as routing game considers the congestible nature of transportation facilities, exiting models fail to account for environmental factors. This paper aims at providing a mathematical framework to study strategic interaction between owners of mixed fleets comprising of both internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV) and electric vehicle (EV) trucks. This study introduces a "green"routing game with incomplete information that models strategic interaction among multiple logistic operators. These players face a pollution tax imposed on ICEVs and a potential delayed delivery cost due to EV charging requirements with uncertainty. In contrast to existing models, this novel model captures the players' trade-off between lengthier congestion delay at charging stations as the share of EV trucks increases and higher pollution costs with increased ICEVs usage, with uncertainty determined by a latent state. We first provide equilibrium characterization and present a condition for essential uniqueness. We show that this equilibrium can be computed in a distributed manner using a gradient projection method. We then introduce a public information system that broadcasts real-time information about the latent state. Importantly, we analyze value of information for providing a condition for the public information to be beneficial. Finally, we present numerical examples to illustrate settings where environmental taxation and information dissemination can improve social welfare. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Bayes and Biased Estimators Without Hyper-Parameter Estimation: Comparable Performance to the Empirical-Bayes-Based Regularized Estimator

Regularized system identification has become a significant complement to more classical system identification. It has been numerically shown that kernel-based regularized estimators often perform better than the maximum likelihood estimator in terms of minimizing mean squared error (MSE). However, regularized estimators often require hyper-parameter estimation. This letter focuses on ridge regression and the regularized estimator by employing the empirical Bayes hyper-parameter estimator. We utilize the excess MSE to quantify the MSE difference between the empirical-Bayes-based regularized estimator and the maximum likelihood estimator for large sample sizes. We then exploit the excess MSE expressions to develop both a family of generalized Bayes estimators and a family of closed-form biased estimators. They have the same excess MSE as the empirical-Bayes-based regularized estimator but eliminate the need for hyper-parameter estimation. Moreover, we conduct numerical simulations to show that the performance of these new estimators is comparable to the empirical-Bayes-based regularized estimator, while computationally, they are more efficient.

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to federated learning in wireless networks. We discuss communication strategies that address packet loss and bitrate limitations in both uplink and downlink transmissions, and introduce FABLE, a novel optimization algorithm designed to operate effectively under these network constraints. The algorithm also supports non-smooth regularizers and accommodates heterogeneous data distributions across clients. We provide theoretical convergence guarantees under gradient compression and asynchronous operation, and demonstrate the efficiency of our approach through numerical experiments. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper introduces a fast fixed-time non-singular terminal sliding mode control approach, utilizing a sliding mode observer, to tackle the tracking challenge in teleoperation systems. A robust fixed-time control law is formulated to achieve accurate tracking performance, effectively countering parametric uncertainties, external disturbances, and time-varying delays. Furthermore, the proposed fast fixed-time non-singular terminal sliding surface ensures convergence within a fixed time frame once the sliding condition is satisfied. To improve practical implementation, a sliding mode observer is integrated, removing the necessity for a velocity sensor. The system's stability is demonstrated through Lyapunov theory.
