This paper considers the data communication of remote diagnosis, which is decomposed into an on-board and an off-board diagnostic task. A new method to reduce the data traffic from the on-board component to the off-board component is described. It concerns the consistency-based diagnosis of discrete-event systems with timed input/output automata. The main idea is based on the notion of the detection automaton, which is implemented on the on-board component and whose inconsistency with the system behaviour is shown to be crucial for the start of the data transmission. The method is demonstrated by examples. © 2009 IFAC.

This paper presents the application of Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) methods in the design of integrated vehicle control systems, in which active components are used in co-operation. In the control design besides performance specifications and uncertainties, it is possible to take fault information into consideration. By monitoring suitable scheduling parameters in the LPV control, the reconfiguration of the control systems can be achieved, conflict between performance demands can be avoided and faults (loss in effectiveness) can be handled. © 2009 EUCA.

This paper proposes a self-organising networked controller for disturbance attenuation in multi-agent systems. A disturbance affecting a single agent has some effect on all neighbouring agents through the communication network. To avoid large disturbance effects, the proposed self-organising controller switches off the communication whenever the effect of the disturbance on the corresponding agent exceeds a given bound. As a consequence, the structure of the networked controller is adjusted to the current disturbance. It is proved that the proposed controller bounds the effect of arbitrary disturbances on all undisturbed agents. The results are illustrated by their application to a robot formation. © IFAC.

Networked controllers are used to synchronise autonomous agents by driving the agent states towards a common trajectory. This paper analyses the command-following behaviour of leader-follower systems in dependence upon the communication structure of the controller. It introduces a quantitative measure of the delay that information is exposed to while it is transmitted from the leader agent through the network. This measure can be used to find communication structures in which all agent outputs follow the reference trajectory with small delays. It helps to find a trade-off between the number of communication links and the quality of the system performance. The results are illustrated by a robot formation problem. © 2012 IFAC.

Geometric fault detection and isolation filters are known for having excellent fault isolation, fault reconstruction and sensitivity properties under small modeling uncertainty and noise. However they are assumed to be sensitive to model uncertainty and noise. This paper proposes a method to incorporate model uncertainty into the design. First, a geometric filter is designed on the nominal plant. Next a robust model matching problem is solved to design a post-filter that augments the performance of the geometric filter over the set of uncertain plants. The method is compared with the standard H ∞ robust FDI filter design procedure, where the robustness and performance of the residual generation are solved in one step, but disturbance rejection and fault sensitivity are not decoupled from each other. Finally, an aircraft dynamics example is presented to detect and isolate aileron actuator faults to asses the performance of the different filter designs. © 2012 IFAC.

High Precision Soft-Switching Converter with Low Voltage Stress and Fast Response Characteristic Based on SiC Power Devices

Due to the characteristic of no blanking time, dual buck topology is attractive in high precision applications and the bias current is injected to eliminate zero crossing distortion. However, with the extending of bus voltage, it is difficult to ensure the current response speed and accuracy due to the limitation of bias current operation and the impact of parasitic parameters of switching devices. Thus, this paper proposes a low voltage stress resonant dual buck soft-switching topology combined with SiC power device for achieving fast response and high precision. At first, the principle of the bias current and soft-switching topology is introduced. Then combined with the bias current decoupling and the realization of zero current switching (ZCS) and zero voltage switching (ZVS), the control strategy is analyzed. Moreover, based on the resonant circuit considering parasitic parameters, the factors that affect the voltage and current stress are presented. Finally, a prototype of 500 V bus voltage with 100 kHz switching frequency is built to verify the theory analysis © 1986-2012 IEEE.

This paper presents the model-based diagnosis in the framework of discrete-event systems. Timed automata are used as a discrete-event representation which is suitable for consistency-based diagnosis. The diagnostic statement is based on the observation whether the measured event-time sequences are consistent with the timed automata. The diagnostic algorithm can be applied online because it determines the fault occurrence recursively for the measured event-time sequences. The result is applied to diagnose valve faults in a chemical process. Copyright © 2002 IFAC.

Any technical system is liable to the occurrence of faults. A major fault in the plant like the complete loss of an actuator or sensor breaks the control loop and renders the system in-operational, unless the control structure is changed in response to the fault. This paper shows how the LQG (linear quadratic Gaussian) optimal control problem can be posed and solved automatically for the faulty plant, resulting in a new controller that allows to stabilise the plant despite of an actuator fault. The same approach can be used to design a bank of observers (one per fault case) that can be used for sensor fault diagnosis and reconfiguration at the same time. The approach is experimentally verified at a two-degrees-of-freedom helicopter model. © 2003 EUCA.

This paper proposes a framework for selecting affinely parametrized qLPV model structures that facilitates solutions to specific control design tasks. The proposed scheme is an iterative process in every step of which a Tensor Product model transformation is applied to generate a finite element convex polytopic representation in order to obtain a quasi Linear Parameter Varying model. Then the LMI feasibility of a robust control objective is verified, which is closely related to the original control task. This step provides a selection criterion that sorts out the suitable models from a finite set of model candidates generated by the TP method. The proposed modeling scheme is simulated through an academic example. © 2009 EUCA.

Asynchronous automata networks are commonly used to describe discrete-event systems consisting of several components. The components used here behave asynchronously since this is usually the case for a large class of automation systems. The asynchronous behavior is based on the ability of certain components to change their state regardless of other component's behavior in the network. This paper deals with the direct feedback problem which occurs whenever coupling input signals have an instantaneous effect on coupling output signals of the same component. In a loop of components the question arises whether a unique solution exists for the signal values in such a loop. A new well-posedness condition is proposed which can be used in composition and simulation algorithms. A CMOS-inverter is used as an example and results of computer simulation as well as the impact of the completeness of behavioral relations are discussed. © 2009 EUCA.
