The global and local stability of process systems in generalized Lotka-Volterra form is studied in this paper using entropy-like and quadratic Lyapunov function candidates. The global stability check for LV models is performed by solving an LMI for a diagonal positive semi-definite matrix using singular perturbation technique. It is shown that a quadratic Lyapunov function can also be determined by solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). In addition, the quadratic stability neighborhood is convex in the space of the quasi-monomials and can be estimated by computing its corner points using LMIs. Furthermore, it is proved that quadratic stability with a diagonal weighting matrix enables to construct a dissipative-Hamiltonian description of the system. The developed methods are illustrated on the model of a continuously stirred tank reactor with a nonlinear reaction system.

This paper presents an application of wavelet networks in identification and control design for a class of non-linear dynamical systems. The technique of feedback linearization, supervisory control and H ∞ control are used to design an adaptive control law and also the parameters of the wavelet networks are adapted using a Lyapunov-based design. By some theorems, it will be proved that even in the presence of modelling errors, named network error, the stability of the overall identification scheme and the convergence of the network parameters and the boundedness of the state errors are guaranteed.

In an Internet-based control system, particular human operations may violate desired requirements and lead to destructive failure. For such human-in-the-loop systems, this paper extends the remote supervisory scheme by Lee and Hsu (2003) to a modular one so as to reduce the supervisor synthesis complexity. Also, remote human issued commands are guaranteed to meet required specifications. A rapid thermal process in semiconductor manufacturing systems is provided to show the practicability of the proposed approach.

A systems re-engineering technique to integrated control and supervision for applications to industrial multi-zone furnaces has been elaborated by using known theories on generalized predictive control and nonlinear programming. This paper presents the derivation of optimizing equations and inequalities.
