The nonlinear dynamic model of gas turbines is derived from first engineering principles, which consists of differential conservation balances completed by algebraic constitutive relations. This nonlinear dynamic model can then be transformed into input-affine form. The coordinate-functions of the state equation f(x) have very complicated algebraic structures, while the functions gi,(x) are constants. Because of this fact, the nonlinear dynamic analysis of the model, such as investigation of controllability and stability, can only be performed with difficulty or in some cases it can not be done. To solve this problem and to investigate the controllability and stability of the model in a more effective way the nonlinear dynamic model has to be transformed into LPV (Linear Parameter-Varying) model. This LPV-model can then be effectively used to develop some types of controllers to improve the dynamic response of the engine. In this paper we show the possible ways and steps of the transformation being neither obvious nor unique and the final form of the LPV-model of a pilot-plant gas turbine, which is installed in the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. This paper presents a real-time Java hardware and software system for use in embedded applications. The system includes a multithreaded Java microcontroller, an adapted Java Virtual Machine (JVH) and an extended application programming interface (API). The microcontroller core is designed with a multithreaded pipeline and hardware support for real-time scheduling algorithms. The Java Virtual Machine consists of trap routines for complex Java byte-codes, real-time garbage collection and a class loader for creating real-time data structures. On a higher level, the application programming interface provides easy real-time thread management and access to hardware components like serial interfaces and timer/counter units.

This paper attempts to look at the fundamental problem of fault detection and isolation (FDI) in nonlinear systems. Using the idea of input reconstruction by means of dynamic inversion the authors first discuss the properties of input (or fault) observability in linear systems. The extension of the results to nonlinear systems as well as the mathematical conditions of the calculation of the inverse system, which provides the inverse in finite algorithmic steps, are given. The applicability of the inversion process to fault reconstruction in nonlinear systems is demonstrated.

This paper presents a fault detection and isolation (FDI) filter design to linearize longitudinal dynamics of a Boeing 747 series 100/200. The FDI filter design is based on a geometric approach which relies on the use of (C,A) invariant subspaces and provides conditions on separability and mutual detectability of the failures. In our case the fault detection filter is sensitive to elevator faults and pitch rate sensor faults. Typically, the FDI filter design approach is elaborated for an open loop model and applied in the closed loop. The robustness aspect of FDI is considered and the effect of closing the loop is shown in the nominal case as well as in the uncertain case. The FDI filter designed for aircraft control systems is analyzed for a nominal closed loop system in the presence of sensor noise.

A simple nonlinear controller for a low-power gas turbine based on direct passivation is proposed in this paper. It uses a nonlinear state space model of the gas turbine in input-affine form based on first engineering principles. It is found by standard nonlinear analysis that the developed model is reachable and observable in the whole application domain and stable in a small neighborhood of an operating point. Accordingly, the control aim is to guarantee the asymptotic stability of every operating points in the whole application domain and to provide suitable disturbance rejection. The proposed nonlinear controller is based on a prescribed quadratic Lyapunov-function and it is able to solve the protection of the gas turbine. The robustness of the closed-loop system with respect to the time-varying parameters is also investigated.

In this paper, the problems of isomorphic decomposition and controllability of a class of nonlinear systems possessing symmetries, on the basis of quotient systems, is studied. The isomorphic decomposition formations of these systems are derived. Finally, it is shown that controllability of the original systems can be determined by that of the subsystems, which are obtained through isomorphic decomposition. The corresponding sufficient and necessary conditions are given. Two new theoretical results have been proved.
