This paper considers distributed nonconvex optimization with the cost functions being distributed over agents. Noting that information compression is a key tool to reduce the heavy communication load for distributed algorithms as agents iteratively communicate with neighbors, we propose three distributed primal–dual algorithms with compressed communication. The first two algorithms are applicable to a general class of compressors with bounded relative compression error and the third algorithm is suitable for two general classes of compressors with bounded absolute compression error. We show that the proposed distributed algorithms with compressed communication have comparable convergence properties as state-of-the-art algorithms with exact communication. Specifically, we show that they can find first-order stationary points with sublinear convergence rate O(1/T) when each local cost function is smooth, where T is the total number of iterations, and find global optima with linear convergence rate under an additional condition that the global cost function satisfies the Polyak–Lojasiewicz condition. In the area of skeleton-based human action recognition, GCN has achieved good results in previous research due to its excellent modeling ability on graph data. Recently, transformers have achieved extraordinary results in many computer vision fields. Comparing transformer and GCN, from a certain point of view, we can regard transformer as a kind of dynamic GCN, and the weight of each node is dynamically determined by data. In this work, a three-dimensional position encoding was proposed by us to solve the representation of node spatial information, in order to apply the transformer to the graph data. In addition, similar to Spatial-Temporal Graph Convolutional Networks (ST-GCN), we proposed a Space-Time Transformer (ST-TR), which applies transformers in space and time to extract spatiotemporal feature of skeleton data to complete action recognition. © 2021 IEEE

Compressed Gradient Tracking Algorithms for Distributed Nonconvex Optimization

In this paper, we study the distributed nonconvex optimization problem, aiming to minimize the average value of the local nonconvex cost functions using local information exchange. To reduce the communication overhead, we introduce three general classes of compressors, i.e., compressors with bounded relative compression error, compressors with globally bounded absolute compression error, and compressors with locally bounded absolute compression error. By integrating them, respectively, with the distributed gradient tracking algorithm, we then propose three corresponding compressed distributed nonconvex optimization algorithms. Motivated by the state-of-the-art BEER algorithm proposed in [1], which is an efficient compressed algorithm integrating gradient tracking with biased and contractive compressors, our first proposed algorithm extends this algorithm to accommodate both biased and non-contractive compressors. For each algorithm, we design a novel Lyapunov function to demonstrate its sublinear convergence to a stationary point if the local cost functions are smooth. Furthermore, when the global cost function satisfies the Polyak–Lojasiewicz (P–L) condition, we show that our proposed algorithms linearly converge to a global optimal point. It is worth noting that, for compressors with bounded relative compression error and globally bounded absolute compression error, our proposed algorithms’ parameters do not require prior knowledge of the P–L constant. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical examples, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms in significantly reducing the communication burden while maintaining the convergence performance. Moreover, simulation results show that the proposed algorithms outperform the state-of-the-art compressed distributed nonconvex optimization algorithms. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. S4TP: Social-Suitable and Safety-Sensitive Trajectory Planning for Autonomous Vehicles

In public roads, autonomous vehicles (AVs) face the challenge of frequent interactions with human-driven vehicles (HDVs), which render uncertain driving behavior due to varying social characteristics among humans. To effectively assess the risks prevailing in the vicinity of AVs in social interactive traffic scenarios and achieve safe autonomous driving, this article proposes a social-suitable and safety-sensitive trajectory planning (S4TP) framework. Specifically, S4TP integrates the Social-Aware Trajectory Prediction (SATP) and Social-Aware Driving Risk Field (SADRF) modules. SATP utilizes Transformers to effectively encode the driving scene and incorporates an AV’s planned trajectory during the prediction decoding process. SADRF assesses the expected surrounding risk degrees during AVs-HDVs interactions, each with different social characteristics, visualized as two-dimensional heat maps centered on the AV. SADRF models the driving intentions of the surrounding HDVs and predicts trajectories based on the representation of vehicular interactions. S4TP employs an optimization-based approach for motion planning, utilizing the predicted HDVs’ trajectories as input. With the integration of SADRF, S4TP executes real-time online optimization of the planned trajectory of AV within low-risk regions, thus improving the safety and the interpretability of the planned trajectory. We have conducted comprehensive tests of the proposed method using the SMARTS simulator. Experimental results in complex social scenarios, such as unprotected left-turn intersections, merging, cruising, and overtaking, validate the superiority of our proposed S4TP in terms of safety and rationality. S4TP achieves a pass rate of 100% across all scenarios, surpassing the current state-of-the-art methods Fanta of 98.25% and Predictive-Decision of 94.75%. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. The technology of reconfigurable optical networks (RONs) is growing to be a promising solution to effectively cater to the rapidly increasing traffic generated by the digital society. Optical technology emerges as a viable alternative because to its capacity to offer a substantial bandwidth, little latency, and enhanced overall performance. Nevertheless, it is imperative to effectively manage the physical resources comprising a data center. This study provides an experimental demonstration of the RONs, which is enhanced by a control plane. The implementation relies on the monitoring of real-time network statistics. This enables the execution of various activities, including as network slice provisioning and reconfiguration, assignment of packet priority classes, and dynamic operations. These actions are performed to ensure the attainment of the desired Quality of Service level. The experimental results show the successfully implementation of RONs using Mininet Emulator and sFlow traffic monitoring technology. The results approve that optical datacenter has minimum delay with low OSNR even with long distance and fast switching time.

Dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (DTP-PMSM) has attracted great attention due to its high reliability and high-power output capacities. However, the conventional single-voltage-vector-based predictive current control (SV-PCC) for DTP-PMSM presents high torque ripple and current harmonics, and high computational burden. To solve those issues, a modulated-virtual-vector-based PCC (MVV-PCC) for DTP-PMSM is proposed in this paper. Wherein, twenty-four VVs are synthesized by the inherent voltage vectors, and two VVs and one zero voltage vector with optimal duty cycles are determined and applied in each sampling period to improve the steady-state performance. The selection of optimal VVs and the calculation of the optimal duty cycles are simplified by integrating the deadbeat control and modulation scheme. Various comparisons are carried out to validate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed MVV-PCC strategy.

Aiming to deal with the challenge of data security and data pricing in data trading markets, we propose the novel multi-blockchain-based framework and design the related pricing mechanisms. Specifically, data recording and trading are conducted separately in the Data Blockchain (DChain) and the Value Blockchain (VChain). Based on these blockchains, two-layer data trading markets are established to manage the initial data trading in the primary market and the data resale in the secondary market. Pricing mechanisms are proposed to protect the formulated data trading markets against strategic trading behaviors and balance the payoffs of both suppliers and users. In the regular data trading on VChain-S2D, two auction models are used to deal with users' strategic bidding in terms of the demand scale, where the incentive-compatible Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG) model is dedicated to the low-demand trading scenario, while the nearly incentive-compatible Monopolistic Price (MP) model is for the high-demand trading scenario. In the temporary data trading on VChain-D2S, a reverse auction mechanism named Two-Stage Obscure Selection (TSOS) is designed to regulate both suppliers' quoting and users' valuation strategies. Moreover, experiments are carried out to validate our theoretical analysis. Our work is expected to enhance the data security and improve the trading efficiency. © 2022, The Authors. Cooperative Vehicle Merging with Guaranteed Collision Avoidance

This paper is concerned with the vehicle merging problem of two adjacent platoons, which are heading towards a lane reduction. A distributed feed-forward control scheme for adjacent vehicles is proposed that handles the lane reduction cooperatively by creating a gap in the main lane for a merging vehicle. Modern vehicles are considered, which are connected via sensory and communication networks. It is proved that collision avoidance is guaranteed due to an appropriate trajectory planning.

The article defines the conditions of self-excitation of an inductive generator with capacitor excitation as part of an autonomous power source. Recommendations for the design of an autonomous power source based on an asynchronous machine in terms of the implementation of self-excitation conditions and optimal operating modes are formulated. A simulation model of an autonomous inductive generator and a solar battery for the analysis of transient, static and dynamic modes of operation has been developed. The conducted theoretical studies of capacitive self-excitation of inductive machines have created a good basis for solving problems related to the practical use of autonomous sources based on an inductive generator. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Networked Event-Based control of Moving Objects with Improved Position Estimation

This paper is concerned with the collision avoidance of moving objects in an uncertain environment. It proposes a networked event-based method for the position estimation of neighbouring objects with sparse communication. The objects are locally controlled and connected by a communication network. Each object possesses a predictor, an event generator and a trajectory planning unit. The trajectories are planned locally and are unknown to the neighbouring objects. For the purpose of collision avoidance the position of a neay object must be estimated to react on the objects movement. Therefore, a set of possible future positions of this object is generated by the predictor. If the set violates a condition, communication is invoked and the predictor is reset. In contrast to literature, this approach does not require sensors or cameras for a measurement and the communication effort is low. The effectiveness of the method is illustrated by a simulation study with two quadrotors.
