An unconditionally stable finite difference discretization motivated by the well-known Crank-Nicolson method is used to develop an iterative learning control design for systems whose dynamics are described by a fourth-order partial differential equation. A discrete in time and space model of a deformable rectangular mirror is derived in this setting and forms the basi s for the new design, where a model for the actuator dynamics is also included. A numerical case study is given to demonstrate the properties of the new design.

Thin films on substrate are important class of targets for surface nanomodification for plasmonic or sensoric applications. There are many papers devoted to this problem. But all of them are concentrated on dynamics of a film, paying small attention to substrate. In these papers the substrate is just an object absorbing the first shock. Here we present another point of view directed onto dynamics of a substrate. We consider (i) generation of a shock wave (SW) in a support by impact of a contact;(ii) transition from one-dimensional to two-dimensional (2D) propagation of SW;(iii) we analyze lateral propagation of the SW along a film-support contact;and (iv) we calculate pressure in the compressed layer behind the decaying SW. This positive pressure acting from substrate to the film accelerates the film in direction to vacuum. Above some threshold, velocity of accelerated film is enough to separate the film from support. In these cases the circle of separation is significantly wider than the circle of the focal laser spot on film surface. Absorbed laser heat exponentially decays around an irradiated spot F = Fc exp(−r2/RL2 ), where RL is radius of a Gaussian beam, F and Fc are local and central fluences, r is a radius from the axis. While the law of decay for the 2D SW in substrate is the power law. Therefore in our case of powerful laser action the edge of a separation circle is defined by propagation of the SW in the support. Effective image retrieval via multilinear multi-index fusion

Multi-index fusion has demonstrated impressive performances in retrieval task by integrating different visual representations in a unified framework. However, previous works mainly consider propagating similarities via neighbor structure, ignoring the high order information among different visual representations. In this paper, we propose a new multi-index fusion scheme for image retrieval. By formulating this procedure as a multilinear based optimization problem, the complementary information hidden in different indexes can be explored more thoroughly. Specially, we first build our multiple indexes from various visual representations. Then a so-called indexspecific functional matrix, which aims to propagate similarities, is introduced for updating the original index. The functional matrices are then optimized in a unified tensor space to achieve a refinement, such that the relevant images can be pushed more closer. The optimization problem can be efficiently solved by the augmented Lagrangian method with theoretical convergence guarantee. Unlike the traditional multi-index fusion scheme, our approach embeds the multi-index subspace structure into the new indexes with sparse constraint, thus it has little additional memory consumption in online query stage. Experimental evaluation on three benchmark datasets reveals that the proposed approach achieves the state-of-The-Art performance, i.e., N-score 3.94 on UKBench, mAP 94.1% on Holiday and 62.39% on Market-1501. Multi-species particle swarms optimization based on orthogonal learning and its application for optimal design of a butterfly-shaped patch antenna

A new multi-species particle swarm optimization with a two-level hierarchical topology and the orthogonal learning strategy(OMSPSO) is proposed, which enhances the global search ability of particles and increases their convergence rates. The numerical results on 10 benchmark functions demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm. Then, the proposed algorithm is presented to design a butterfly-shaped microstrip patch antenna. Combined with the HFSS solver, a butterfly-shaped patch antenna with a bandwidth of about 40.1% is designed by using the proposed OMSPSO. The return loss of the butterfly-shaped antenna is greater than 10 d B between 4.15 and 6.36 GHz. The antenna can serve simultaneously for the high-speed wireless computer networks(5.15–5.35 GHz) and the RFID systems(5.8 GHz).

This paper presented an improved fuzzy synthetic model based on combination weighting and a cloud model to optimize wind turbine maintenance strategy and improve operational reliability. First, a condition assessment framework was proposed by analyzing the monitored physical quantities of a working wind turbine. Based on the establishment of a state health evaluation index and health status classification of wind turbines, the weight of each index was determined with a combination weighting method while the membership degree of each state grade was determined with a membership cloud model. A comprehensive evaluation of the health status of the wind turbine was carried out using the method of stratified evaluation. The results showed that the proposed method was effective and feasible. The results also showed that the condition assessment that utilized the improved method predicted the change of operating conditions and more closely matched real operating conditions than the traditional fuzzy assessment method. © 2017-IOS Press and the authors. The paper presents the modelling and control design of an independent steering system which is based on the variable-geometry suspension. Through the actuation of the suspension the camber angle of the wheel is modified, which results in the variation of the steering wheel scrub radius. In the paper the model of the independent steering mechanism and the relationship between the steering and the suspension geometry are formulated. Furthermore, the model is validated through a high-fidelity multi-body suspension model Matlab/SimMechanics. In the paper the steps of the robust control design are presented, and the efficiency of the system is illustrated through different vehicle dynamical scenarios.

We consider curvature depending variational models for image regularization, such as Euler’s elastica. These models are known to provide strong priors for the continuity of edges and hence have important applications in shape- and image processing. We consider a lifted convex representation of these models in the roto-translation space: In this space, curvature depending variational energies are represented by means of a convex functional defined on divergence free vector fields. The line energies are then easily extended to any scalar function. It yields a natural generalization of the total variation to the roto-translation space. As our main result, we show that the proposed convex representation is tight for characteristic functions of smooth shapes. We also discuss cases where this representation fails. For numerical solution, we propose a staggered grid discretization based on an averaged Raviart-Thomas finite elements approximation. This discretization is consistent, up to minor details, with the underlying continuous model. The resulting non-smooth convex optimization problem is solved using a first-order primal-dual algorithm. On ${\mathcal H}_{\infty }$ Finite-Horizon Filtering Under Stochastic Protocol: Dealing With High-Rate Communication Networks

This paper is concerned with the H ∞ filtering problem for a class of time-varying nonlinear delayed system under high-rate communication network and stochastic protocol (SP). The communication between the sensors and the state estimator is implemented via a shared high-rate communication network in which multiple transmissions are generated between two adjacent sampling instants of sensors. At each transmission instant, only one sensor is allowed to get access to the communication network in order to avoid data collisions and the SP is employed to determine which sensor obtains access to the network at a certain instant. The mapping technology is applied to characterize the randomly switching behavior of the data transmission resulting from the utilization of the SP. The aim of the problem addressed is to design an estimator such that the H ∞ disturbance attenuation level is guaranteed for the estimation error dynamics over a given finite horizon. Sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of the finite-horizon filter satisfying the prescribed H ∞ performance requirement, and the explicit expression of the time-varying filter gains is characterized by resorting toa set of recursive matrix inequalities. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed filter design scheme.

An unconditionally stable finite difference scheme for systems whose dynamics are described by a fourth-order partial differential equation is developed using a regular hexagonal grid. The scheme is motivated by the well-known Crank-Nicolson discretization that was originally developed for second-order systems and it is used in this paper to develop a discrete in time and space model of a deformable mirror as a basis for control law design. As one example, the resulting model is used for iterative learning control law design and supporting numerical simulations are given. © 2017
