Modbus over TCP/IP has become one of the most utilised industrial protocols for networking critical infrastructure. It is crucial to test how the ABB 800xA DCS controller's Modbus TCP/IP protocol functions at both the component-level and the functional-level. Whereas manual testing takes a lot of time to build up a test environment. For example connecting the hardware like end devices, launching the controller (which executes the settings and programs created in the DCS software), configuring the DCS software tool (which enables editing, compilation, testing, and downloading of the desired controller programs to the controller), developing or loading controller programs which has different configurations, modifying the application variables, and also manually providing the input values into the desired registers or coils using Modbus slaves. Therefore, there is a great need to automate the entire process so that it becomes less repetitious, more effective, and requires less human effort. After comparing some available tools, We decided on SpecFlow as the point of entry into the automation framework. By connecting business-readable behavioral needs to the actual implementation, this tool "seeks to narrow the interaction gap between domain-specific experts and developers," according to its description. Our approach takes an array of steps defined in the Gherkin language using the SpecFlow framework as its input and embeds them inside step definition files developed using the C# language and *** framework. Additionally, PyModbusTCP served as the Modbus slave in the above project, providing complete test automation. PyModbusTCP is a slave-generation library built on the Python programming language. The Modbus Client object is used to provide access to the Modbus/TCP server.

The lithium-ion battery is increasingly critical in the fields of electric vehicles and sustainable energy. Accurate prediction of the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of lithium-ion batteries is essential to mitigate risks and minimize potential losses. This paper introduces a novel fusion algorithm, FPSOGWO, which combines Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) with an enhanced Circle chaos strategy and a random adaptive weighting strategy. The FPSOGWO algorithm, integrated with Support Vector Regression (FPSOGWO-SVR), was utilized to predict the RUL of health factors in lithium batteries. Compared to other optimization algorithms, FPSOGWO exhibits superior optimization speed and value, effectively overcoming issues of local optimality. Specifically, when benchmarked against the Whale Optimization Algorithm-SVR (WOA-SVR), the R-Square values of FPSOGWO-SVR showed improvements of 15.62%, 1.28%, 5.67%, and 10.65% across four different types of batteries. Experimental results demonstrate that FPSOGWO-SVR provides more accurate RUL predictions for lithium batteries, highlighting its potential for broader application in battery health management systems. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

The article provides a theoretical analysis of the ultrahigh frequency (microwave) method of humidity measurement, discusses the problems of instrumentation of the method in question, and proposes a scheme of an experimental installation. Bulk cotton materials were selected as the objects of research. The electromagnetic wave radiation is analyzed during measurement and the evaluation of electrophysical characteristics requires the study of the functional dependence of the amplitude and phase shift on the mass ratio of humidity, mathematical models for various bulk cotton materials describing the joint effect of humidity, material density on the attenuation and phase shift of the passing wave are obtained.

The paper deals with the problems of grain wounding requires large energy costs, requiring a multi-stage process of grain processing, installation and perfect and reliable automation systems for the storage and processing of raw materials, theoretical and experimental studies and the results of the use of the microwave method in measuring the moisture content of grain and grain materials. The method under consideration is based on the principle of selective absorption of microwave radiation energy by water in materials and its derivatives. By the degree of absorption of radiation, the concentration of moisture is judged. The paper investigates the amplitude and phase methods of the passing wave in free space. The influence of the elastic properties of the material under study on the electrical characteristics of the microwave wave, suggesting fundamentally new ways of measuring the attenuation and phase shift of the electromagnetic wave, including discrete conversion of the signal of the primary converter, which does not require rigid metrological support and the use of a phase shift, is substantiated. Information on the values of the thickness of the material is analyzed in order to correct the influence of this value, consisting of two parameters: the signal of the passing wave, the attenuation and phase shift which characterizes the humidity and the additional signal - the phase wave reflected from the front surface of the materials and carrying information about its thickness.

This article investigates a fixed-time nonsingular terminal sliding mode control (FNTSMC) method with disturbance observer (DO). Using the vehicle's acceleration information, a fixed-time DO is designed to estimate the external uncertain disturbance of the system. Considering the nonzero initial error, a modified constant time headway strategy is proposed to overcome the influence of the nonzero initial error on the vehicle controller. In addition, a new terminal sliding mode control method is introduced to avoid the nonsingular problem and ensure that the vehicle spacing error converges in a fixed time. Finally, a numerical simulation is presented to show the proposed method's effectiveness.

In practical applications of iterative learning control (ILC), the desired trajectory may scale within different time intervals along the iteration axis, leading to the non-uniform trial length problem. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a projection-based ILC algorithm for linear time-varying systems with flexible tasks. Defining the system dynamics in Hilbert space, the performance index to be iteratively optimized is designed through a successive projection strategy. Based on this performance index, a norm optimal ILC algorithm is obtained, and the convergence analysis of the proposed algorithm is given. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by numerical simulation of a gantry robot.

Optimal control of motion and camber of steel plates in a multi-pass reversing rolling process*

In flat steel rolling, roughing mills are used to roll slabs into thin plates within 5 to 7 consecutive reversing rolling passes with decreasing thickness. Some of these mills are equipped with edger rolls to control also the width of the plate. Edger rolls are usually mounted upstream of the roll gap. In the best case, a perfect cuboid-shaped plate without camber and thickness wedge leaves the roughing mill. In practice, however, lateral asymmetries like temperature gradients and thickness inhomogeneities may cause the plate to rotate in the roll gap with respect to the vertical axis and to form a camber or thickness wedge or both. In the worst case, these effects not just deteriorate the product quality but also jeopardize plant equipment like side guides. To improve the product quality and reduce wear of plant equipment, active control of the motion and camber of the plate is desirable. In this work, a mathematical model for both the planar motion and the resulting shape of the plate is briefly summarized. Based on this validated model, a model predictive control strategy that calculates optimal control inputs (roll gap tilt and lateral position of edger rolls) for all remaining rolling passes is developed. The performance of the proposed control concept is demonstrated in simulation studies.

An indirect iterative learning control law is proposed for a class of continuous-time batch processes with time-varying uncertainties, input delay, and disturbances. First, by designing a predictor based on a state observer we are able to estimate the future state and compensate for the input delay. Then, based on the estimated state we design a robust $H$ ∞ controller in the presence of time-varying uncertainties and load disturbances. Additionally, the differential repetitive process setting for the design of the iterative learning control scheme is applied and hence the convergence of the tracking error in trial-to-trial direction occurs. Finally, the simulation results verify the new method's effectiveness.

The development of an accurate soft sensor modeling method in the process industry remains a great challenge because the coupling relationship between variables is always intricate and difficult to model. In this work, a dynamic graph learning (DGL) soft sensor is proposed to alleviate this problem. The proposed model realizes the ability of the soft sensor to perceive the coupling relationship in real time by automatically learning the dynamic graph. Then, a causal convolutional mechanism and a multi-hop graph attention mechanism are used to systematically construct the dependencies of variables in the spatial-temporal dimension and model their variation patterns effectively. Finally, the proposed method is tested on the penicillin fermentation process and shown to be feasible and effective. The results showed that the change of the dynamic graph in the spatial-temporal dimension was in line with the process mechanism.

In terms of surface defect detection of glazed tiles, there are problems such as false detection and insufficient ability to identify small target defects due to the rich texture on the surface of glazed tiles. In response to these challenges, this article has compiled a dataset of glazed ceramic tiles and proposed an improved algorithm ECANet-FPG based on Faster R-CNN. Due to the similarity in texture and defects on the surface of ceramic tiles, this algorithm introduces the Efficient Channel Attention (ECA) module into the feature extraction network of Faster R-CNN to enhance the ability to extract deep features. At the same time, a Feature Pyramid Grids (FPG) structure is adopted to achieve efficient fusion of multi-scale features, in order to improve the recognition accuracy of small target defects. The experimental results show that the improved algorithm achieves higher detection accuracy and efficiency than the baseline model, demonstrating its effectiveness and practicality in detecting surface defects on glazed ceramic tiles. © 2024 IEEE.
