Approximate Near-Front Ray Solutions in the Axisymmetric Strain Dynamics of a Linear Elastic Half-Space

Abstract: The dynamics of axisymmetric two-dimensional strains in a linear elastic half-spacebounded by a smooth surface of revolution with positive Gaussian curvature is considered. Anapproximate solution of the initial–boundary value problem is constructed on the basis of rayseries with expansion in a time-like variable. The limited number of terms of the ray series is usedfor near-front domains of curvilinear waves of strong discontinuities. The coefficients of this seriesare the discontinuities of the derivatives of displacements with respect to time (starting from thefirst derivative). It is shown that it is necessary to take into account the ray series components upto thest order inclusive at theth step of the ray method for a two-dimensional type of the deformationprocess. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. 2024.

On the Optical Field Confinement at the Anapole Mode in Nanohole Silicon Metasurfaces

Abstract: Recently, researchers demonstrated numerous types of the metasurfaces with non-radiating states including the anapole ones. These metasurfaces have promising properties for various applications in optics which are mainly connected with the optical field confinement. But by itself, the existence of the anapole state does not make one available to exploit this feature. For example, Ospanova et al. [16] presented a grouped nanohole array in silicon slab possessing anapole mode in visible range. In this work, it is proved that despite of the existence of the anapole mode in the proposed nanostructure the valuable electric field confinement is not reached. Thus most expected uses of the anapole state cannot be gained through this nanostructure. As demonstrated here, the aforementioned nanostructure may be replaced by the square nanohole array having the anapole state with different meta-atom and much larger electric field confinement. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. 2024. Abstract: The evolution of the wave pattern in a multimodulus elastic half-space with a boundarymoving in nonstationary uniaxial piecewise linear "tension–compression–stop" mode is *** solution of the boundary value problem includes all cases of interaction between planeone-dimensional strain waves, including reflected weak-intensity fronts. A number of new featuresof one-dimensional elastic deformation dynamics in a multimodulus medium are revealed, some ofwhich (e.g., the appearance of a reflected shock wave at a distance from the loaded boundary,cyclic transitions of a narrow moving zone from a compressed to rigid state and back, and astepwise decrease in the tensile strain level in the near-boundary zone after the boundary isstopped) can be obtained with a given boundary loading only taking into account reflectioneffects. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. 2023.

In this work, responses of cortical vessels to the administration of a metabolic agent were measured in rats using contactless imaging photoplethysmography and laser speckle contrast imaging systems providing full field of view visualization of the blood flow. It was found that blood-flow changes detected by two systems differ significantly due to different nature of the interaction of light with tissues underlying these methods. © 2024 IEEE.

The paper compares the formation conditions, crystal structure, conductivity, and thermoelectric properties of thin CrSi and CoSi films on silicon substrates with (111) and (100) orientations. It is found that, despite the insufficiently good conductivity, the films have a noticeable Seebeck coefficient (up to 70 μV/K) in the temperature range of 200-450 K: positive for CrSi and negative for CoSi. The maximum power factor is estimated at 2 to 3 mW/(m2×K). For CoSi, first-principles calculations of the phonon structure and lattice thermal conductivity are performed, including in the form of nanowires. Estimates are made for the achievable dimensionless thermoelectric figure of merit of CoSi thin films: ZT=0.40-0.50 T=200-450 K. © 2024 IEEE.

Inspection of underwater pipelines (UP) condition by means of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) requires high precision of vehicle localization relative to UP. One of the possible solutions to the problem is recognition of UP using the optical images from AUV onboard stereocamera. Applied in this work method is based on recognition of visible borders at 2D photographs with subsequent recovery of spatial parameters of a scene, including location and orientation of UP in AUVcentered coordinate system. Computational experiments were conducted to test the presented methods. They consisted of debugging the model of the AUV behavior during the inspection of UP, evaluating the effectiveness of the developed methods on virtual scenes, as well as on the real data obtained by a monocamera via the AUV tracking along pipeline. The results of estimating the accuracy of UP localization on real data and also in computational experiments have shown that proposed methods could provide the required navigation accuracy of the AUV relative to pipeline during inspection. © 2024 IEEE.

Multilayer (4 and 8 layers) samples with embedded β-FeSi2 and α-FeSi2 nanocrystals (NCs) on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrates with (100) orientation and p-type conductivity have been grown. It has been established from Raman data that β-FeSi2 NCs are formed with small portions of iron (0.5 nm) deposited at room temperature and annealed at T = 630°C with subsequent overgrowing with silicon, and α-FeSi2 NCs are formed after short-term annealing at T = 1000°C and overgrowing with silicon. The effect of doping of intermediate silicon layers on the conductivity and Seebeck coefficient in multilayers (4 and 8) in the temperature range of 80-450 K was studied. It was shown that with maximum doping of intermediate layers (1019 cm-3) with the number of layers equal to 8, the maximum Seebeck coefficient 600 μV/K and the maximum power factor 2.5 mW/(m×K2) were observed at T= 450 K, which is due to the contribution of injected holes from β-FeSi2 nanocrystals. © 2024 IEEE.

The report outlines the problems of assimilation of navigation information delivered by spaced on-board sensors for satellite positioning of a moving object (technological platform) combined with three-component specific force vector meters (3D newtonometers). The main mathematical constructions follow the "state-measurement"paradigm and are focused on solving the inverse problems of determining the movement of technological platform as a solid body. An ellipsoidal system and other coordinate systems that determine solutions are selected as the base coordinate system. Algorithms for calculating kinematic parameters and spatial orientation of technological platform, characteristics of motion causality-forces and moments are presented. A numerical solution to the problem of vector gravimetry is proposed. An original digital test stand of the system for assimilating integrated satellite and inertial navigation information has been developed. © 2023 Concern CSRI Elektropribor, JSC.

In this article, we consider the issue of underwater pipeline (UP) inspection with an autonomous underwater vehicle. As part of the unified approach to addressing the problem of UP tracking, we propose a number of methods based on processing of stereo images to recognize and calculate the position of UP;describe the developed technique of image vectorization and a computationally cost-effective modification of the Hough algorithm;and propose a method for UP tracking based on search for the centerline of the current UP segment using the validation criteria of fixed solution. The reliability criterion is based on analysis of generated 3D points of a scene. The analysis was carried out and comparative estimates of the developed algorithms were obtained in experiments with simulated and actual data. The advantage of methods using 3D point cloud analysis from stereo images over vectorization methods in terms of both accuracy and speed of data processing is shown for the UP tracking problem. © 2024 IEEE.

Abstract: We propose a new approach to the use of sensors based on 1D photonic crystals with defect to determine the concentrations of non-binary mixtures. This approach is based on the simultaneous use of several defect modes whose positions are sensitive to differences in the dispersion properties of the different components of the mixture. We also investigate different modes of operation of such a sensor to improve its accuracy, including working with defect modes in different photonic forbidden gaps.
