H ∞ Asynchronous control for Discrete-Time Semi-Markov Jump Systems

This paper investigates the problem of H ∞ asynchronous control for discrete-time semi-Markov jump systems. In practice, it is difficult to ensure that controller modes and system modes are updated synchronously. Therefore, a hidden semi-Markov model is introduced to characterize such an asynchronous phenomenon between system modes and controller modes. Meanwhile, the switching signal of the controller is generated by a given conditional probability related to the system mode. Based on the mode-dependent and elapsed-time-dependent Lyapunov function, together with the semi-Markov kernel (SMK) method, sufficient conditions constructed by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are derived to ensure the existence of an asynchronous controller such that the resulting system is σ-error mean square stable and satisfies an H ∞ performance index. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the method proposed.

On Optimal control of Flat Hybrid Automata

Recently, Flat Hybrid Automata (FHA) were introduced as a new model class of hybrid systems. In order to answer the evident question of an optimal operation of the new class of FHA, a well-posed optimization problem definition for FHA is presented. This problem formulation also includes costs on discrete–state transitions and switching actions. We present a solution for a reduced problem: FHA with autonomous switching. For these, a new algorithm is introduced which solves the optimal control problem. The application of this optimization algorithm is shown with an electrical network example.

Due to the process disturbances and uncertainties,the operating performance of industrial process may deviate from the optimal operating point along with ***,non-optimal operation may lead to decline production quality and economic *** it is significant to implement online assessment strategy and further analyze the actual process operating performance,so as to make the production process in the best operating performance as far as *** process data is strongly nonlinear due to the change of system state caused by the change of machine performance or operation *** this time,the relationship between the local nearest neighbor samples is ***,the existing methods of operating performance assessment for solving nonlinear problems only focus on the global structure of data,i.e.,the variance,while ignoring the local neighborhood structure in each performance ***,a new method called kernel locally linear embedding PLS(KLLEPLS) is developed and applied for operating performance *** includes offline modeling,online evaluation and non-optimal cause *** algorithm not only has concise expression and similar analytical solutions for PLS,but also retains the original geometric structure of strongly nonlinear data when extracting the maximum correlation information between process ***,the practice and effectiveness of the proposed method are demonstrated by the dense medium coal preparation process and Tennessee Eastman(TE) process.

The railway system is a complex system because of many constraints, randomness and high security requirements, so it is difficult to establish an accurate mathematical model for it, which brings great challenges to railway scheduling. Parallel intelligence theory can effectively solve the modeling, analysis and control of complex systems, so it has a wide range of applications in the field of intelligent transportation. In this paper, we build an artificial system according to the actual system, and use the surrogate modelling to carry out the calculation experiments, and proposed a parallel scheduling system based on the parallel intelligence method. Select a case to design scenario and perform computational experiment, the scheduling strategy is given and the scheduling strategy is analyzed.

The article deals with the problem of modeling and calculating processes in a linear system with a delay based on dynamic graphs. A graph model of a continuous lagging signal (initial function) is constructed. A graph model of a linear stationary system with a delay in the feedback chain is constructed as a union of graph models of its elements. The graph model makes it obvious that a system with a delay in the feedback circuit is open relative to the signals flowing in it, which makes it possible to significantly simplify computational procedures. A linear system with a delayed control signal is also considered. Based on graph models the authors obtain the recurrent relations and an algorithm for calculating processes in a linear system with a delay in state and a delay in control. The paper presents an example of using the obtained algorithm. The proposed method allows for a clear and strict formalization of the description and analysis of complex systems, including nonlinear discrete systems with different types of modulation.

Since the earliest conceptualizations by Lee and Markus, and Propoi in the 1960s, Model Predictive control (MPC) has become a major success story of systems and control with respect to industrial impact and with respect to continued and wide-spread research interest. The field has evolved from conceptually simple linear-quadratic (convex) settings in discrete and continuous time to nonlinear and distributed settings including hybrid, stochastic, and infinite-dimensional systems. Put differently, essentially the entire spectrum of dynamic systems can be considered in the MPC framework with respect to both—system theoretic analysis and tailored numerics. Moreover, recent developments in machine learning also leverage MPC concepts and learning-based and data-driven MPC have become highly active research areas. However, this evident and continued success renders it increasingly complex to live up to industrial expectations while enabling graduate students for state-of-the-art research in teaching MPC. Hence, this position paper attempts to trigger a discussion on teaching MPC. To lay the basis for a fruitful debate, we subsequently investigate the prospect of covering MPC in undergraduate courses; we comment on teaching textbooks; and we discuss the increasing complexity of research-oriented graduate teaching of MPC.

An atraumatic mock loop for realistic hemocompatibility assessment of blood pumps

Conventional mock circulatory loops (MCLs) cannot replicate realistic hemodynamic conditions without inducing blood trauma. This constrains in-vitro hemocompatibility examinations of blood pumps to static operating conditions that do not reflect clinical scenarios. This study aimed at developing an atraumatic MCL based on a hardware-in-the-loop concept (H-MCL) that enables hemocompatibility assessment under realistic hemodynamic conditions. The atraumatic H-MCL was designed for 450±50 ml of blood with the sole blood-contacting components being the polycarbonate reservoirs, the silicone/polyvinyl-chloride tubing and the blood pump under investigation. To account for inherent coupling effects a decoupling pressure control was derived by feedback linearization, whereas the level control was addressed by an optimization task to overcome periodic loss of controllability. The HeartMate 3 was showcased to evaluate the H-MCL’s accuracy at typical hemodynamic conditions and to demonstrate the H-MCL’s atraumatic properties. Pilot hemolysis experiments were conducted with bovine (n=2) and human (n=2) blood, and evaluated in terms of the normalized index of hemolysis (NIH). Typical hemodynamic scenarios of patients with full and partial support were replicated with marginal coupling effects and root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.74±1.37 mmHg and 0.94±0.83 mmHg, respectively, while the fluid level did not exceed a range of ±4% of its target value. The initial examinations of hemolysis demonstrated the atraumatic characteristics of the novel H-MCL, as evidenced by levels of NIH (bovine: 5.1-7.2mg/100L;human: 1.6-1.8mg/100L) that are consistent with those reported in existing literature. Collectively, these findings indicated the H-MCL’s potential for in-vitro hemocompatibiltiy assessment of blood pumps within realistic hemodynamic conditions. © 2023, CC BY.

In-Line Estimation of the Magnetization Curve of Steel Strips in a Continuous Induction Furnace ⁎

An in-line parameter estimation strategy for continuous inductive heating of ferromagnetic steel strips is developed and investigated. During strip processing in a longitudinal flux induction furnace, the parameters of the magnetization curve (B-H curve) of the strip material are identified by a moving horizon estimator (MHE). The estimator uses a tailored 2D spatial-temporal model of the furnace which takes into account both the thermal and the electromagnetic subsystem. Other model parameters are identified in a scenario, where the magnetization curve of the strip is known. For model validation, the simulated strip temperature at the furnace exit is compared with measurements. To approximate the solution of the nonlinear Maxwell equations, the effective magnetization approach is applied. Here, a sophisticated hysteretic magnetization model is avoided in favor of the computing time, while magnetic saturation effects in the strip are still captured. The developed MHE is validated in a simulation scenario based on a strip with a known magnetization curve.

This paper considers distributed online convex optimization with adversarial constraints. In this setting, a network of agents makes decisions at each round, and then only a portion of the loss function and a coordinate block of the constraint function are privately revealed to each agent. The loss and constraint functions are convex and can vary arbitrarily across rounds. The agents collaborate to minimize network regret and cumulative constraint violation. A novel distributed online algorithm is proposed and it achieves an O(T max{c,1−c}) network regret bound and an O(T 1−c/2) network cumulative constraint violation bound, where T is the number of rounds and c ∈ (0, 1) is a user-defined trade-off parameter. When Slater’s condition holds (i.e, there is a point that strictly satisfies the inequality constraints), the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(T 1−c). Moreover, if the loss functions are strongly convex, then the network regret bound is reduced to O(log(T)), and the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(√log(T)T) and O(log(T)) without and with Slater’s condition, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first to achieve reduced (network) cumulative constraint violation bounds for (distributed) online convex optimization with adversarial constraints under Slater’s condition.
