Since IEC 61499 has reached the state of an International Standard and a substantial body of research results exists the question of the authors as main intention for this paper was: Do the models of IEC 61499 solve all problems when thinking of usability and interoperability in heterogeneous system environments? The main problems discussed within the paper concern to the execution model defined for basic function blocks and the scheduling of events within function block networks. © 2006 IEEE.

The goal to control the dynamics of high-rise buildings either to ameliorate the damage or prevent their destruction when subject to an earthquake excitation has been subject of extensive research. All known control designs have advantages and disadvantages as well as operating limits. The application of sliding-mode control to controlling earthquake induced vibrations of a multi-story structural system as an active seismic compensation plus base isolation has been investigated. The performance has been compared to the one of traditional industrial controls, and relevant conclusions drawn. Simulation results, carried out using El Centro earthquake acceleration, have shown that the sliding mode control can decrease significantly displacements of the floors.

In this paper, we aim at developing a System-on-Chip, SoC, which can capture image as well as produce vehicle lane map at the same time. We adopt Peak-Finding based lane detection algorithm that can achieve high recognition rate about 96% even under various weather conditions. The features of the proposed SoC are a single low-cost and compact chip which implements the lane detection algorithm with mixed signal mode CMOS image sensor. Therefore, it can be easily used in thousands of consumer electronics for intelligent automobile applications. © IEEE.

Fuzzy automata are proposed for fault diagnosis. The output of the monitored system is partitioned into linear segments which are assigned to pattern classes (templates) with the use of fuzzy membership functions. A sequence of templates is generated and becomes input to fuzzy automata which have transitions that correspond to the templates of the properly functioning system. If the automata reach their final states, i.e. the input sequence is accepted by the automata with a membership degree that exceeds a certain threshold, then normal operation is deduced, otherwise, a failure is diagnosed. Fault diagnosis of a DC motor and detection of abnormalities in the ECG signal are used as case studies. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

A standard PC platform based simulator system for personnel training in anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) systems has been designed and implemented;its operation is managed through instructor-trainee interaction. It makes use of object-oriented simulation modeling, 6 degree-offreedom (6DOF) missile model and mask modeling of terrain and weather conditions. The main topic of research are the short-range and line-of-sight (CLOS) missiles as well as their guidance and control and target selection and tracking in combat situation. The simulation model specifications are built around the set of concurrent cooperating objects, including representation model of the system's environment. The set of compatible models and software implementations for missiles and moving ground targets, involving their interrelated kinematics, has been elaborated by own research entirely. An appropriate designed user-system interface employing Visual Basic enhances the instructor-trainee co-operation. Its significance stems fiom being usable for personnel training and simulating all typical combat situations given country's landscapes, and being amenable to adjustments to serve a combat command and control instrument if endowed with some hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) elements and interface to launching platform. In addition, it is aimed for investigating new tracking algorithms in multi-target environment. © 2003 IEEE.

Process models can be seen as structured knowledge base elements with syntax and semantics dictated by the underlying physical and chemical laws. The effect of model simplification assumptions is then determined by forward reasoning in order to take into account all of their implications. A bidirectional reasoning method for the retrieval of modelling assumptions from two related process models is proposed. An intelligent model editor is constructed to perform and test the model-based reasoning methods related to the assumption retrieval. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2001.

This paper addresses networking and traffic control problems in network systems along with the potential for introducing soft-computing applications at supervisory control level. The incentive Stackelberg strategy control concept was introduced to the networking model that comprises subsidiary systems of users and of network. A linear strategy is proposed for the elastic traffic problem, and results are demonstrated and illustrated via Kelly's (1997) example. The presented method is extended to the non-elastic traffic problem and results are also illustrated via a slightly modified Kelly example. Ways of employing combined analytical and soft-computing approaches and techniques in a hybrid framework have been investigated. A fuzzy-Petri-net supervisor is proposed to implement the strategic decision and control layer. Insofar obtained results are rather encouraging, and this research continues further towards possible implementation as well as some open theoretical issues. © 2001 IEEE.

The problem of the pricing equilibrium in multi-service priority-based networks isstudied by using Stackelberg game theory. Some concepts of the game theory were revisited first. Then, the existing results on two-user, twolevel Nash problem was reviewed briefly. Following this background, a new one-leader, two-level, two-user incentive Stackelberg strategy was derived and proved by employing the time delay involved.

The problem of networking supervision and traffic rate control in multi-service network systems is studied by using concepts of Nash equilibrium and Stackelberg strategy under assumption of two-level system architecture. Models of users, network provider and overall system in game-theoretic setting are presented. Linear Stackelberg incentive strategies are derived for both elastic and non-elastic traffic, and verified using Kelly's example. Outlines of the two-level integrated control and supervision architecture, and of the proposed fuzzy-Perti-net supervisor are given.
