In recent years, reinforcement learning techniques have gained widespread application in control synthesis. However, in the context of safety-critical systems, employing trial-and-error based reinforcement learning may be unacceptable due to the potential risks it poses during the learning process. Consequently, the development of safe reinforcement learning techniques has become imperative. This paper addresses the challenge of safe reinforcement learning for controller synthesis, particularly when safety specifications are intricately linked to the real-time behavior of the system. To articulate time-sensitive requirements, we leverage Metric Interval Temporal Logic (MITL). To ensure safety throughout the learning process, we introduce an additional reactive controller called a shield. Specifically, the shield functions to reject any behavior that violates the real-time specifications, thus mitigating potential risks. The efficacy of our proposed approach is demonstrated through simulation results, highlighting its ability to satisfy safety constraints in the dynamic environment of controller synthesis.

Network reciprocity has been recognized as a crucial mechanism for promoting the evolution of cooperation. However, prior studies on network reciprocity have predominantly focused on isolated networks, neglecting the interconnected nature of real-world systems. In reality, many large-scale systems are closely coupled, where the interaction patterns between systems differ significantly from those within individual networks. Motivated by this observation, we construct a strategy evolution model on coupled networks to explore the effects of such interconnections. Our findings reveal that coupled networks foster cooperation more effectively than isolated networks. This advantage persists across various network structures, suggesting the universality of this phenomenon. Interestingly, we discover that the strength of the coupling plays a pivotal role: weaker coupling between networks is more conducive to the emergence and stability of cooperation compared to stronger coupling. These results high-light the importance of considering cross-system interactions in understanding and designing mechanisms to enhance cooperative behavior.

Electric vehicles (EVs) have experienced an unprecedented increase in their penetration; in well developed countries; due to the advancement of battery technology and the need to make transportation more environmentally friendly. As a result of this trend, EVs have become an integral part of those countries power grid ecosystem, where they may be used as both a source, and a consumer of energy. However, cybersecurity risks associated with large fleets of EVs within the power grids can significantly impact the normal operation of distribution systems. This paper considers the cyber-attack consequences, from attackers’ perspective. The cyber attackers under study target the charging price (CP) by increasing the CP in off-peak hours and accordingly subsiding it in on-peak hours. A two-stage optimization framework is proposed to identify the most important ultra-fast charging stations (XFCs) under the cyber-attack, meanwhile, the EV users’ response to the compromised CP is considered. Then, the proposed model is implemented on a modified IEEE 123-bus distribution test system, and the effectiveness of the model is proved through some case studies. In particular, they demonstrated that the amount of load shedding is increased by 8.198 MW when the EV user response is taken into account.

LiDARs and cameras, commonly used sensors on autonomous vehicles and robots, require precise calibration for accurate joint environmental perception. Current calibration methods, capable of adjusting both intrinsic and extrinsic parameters, often depend on physical targets or human intervention, making them unsuitable for automatic online calibration. Moreover, these methods are primarily optimized for dense point clouds, as they are often tuned on open datasets featuring high-quality point cloud data. However, low-resolution LiDARs, preferred for their cost-effectiveness, are prevalent in practical applications. To automate the calibration process while maintaining high precision on sparse point clouds, multi-modal image registration techniques are leveraged to develop an end-to-end, cross-attention-based neural network for automatic calibration of low-resolution LiDARs and Cameras. Specifically, given an initial perturbation on point clouds, our network is capable of recovering the true extrinsic parameters without manual intervention. Additionally, specialized input preprocessing and training strategies are incorporated to enhance performance with sparse point clouds. Promising results are achieved on both open datasets and custom sensor acquisitions, highlighting the effectiveness and adaptability of our network to diverse scenarios.

The technology of reconfigurable optical networks (RONs) is growing to be a promising solution to effectively cater to the rapidly increasing traffic generated by the digital society. Optical technology emerges as a viable alternative because to its capacity to offer a substantial bandwidth, little latency, and enhanced overall performance. Nevertheless, it is imperative to effectively manage the physical resources comprising a data center. This study provides an experimental demonstration of the RONs, which is enhanced by a control plane. The implementation relies on the monitoring of real-time network statistics. This enables the execution of various activities, including as network slice provisioning and reconfiguration, assignment of packet priority classes, and dynamic operations. These actions are performed to ensure the attainment of the desired Quality of Service level. The experimental results show the successfully implementation of RONs using Mininet Emulator and sFlow traffic monitoring technology. The results approve that optical datacenter has minimum delay with low OSNR even with long distance and fast switching time. © 2023 IEEE.

Task scheduling algorithms are key to research and practice in parallel testing techniques, especially in control system applications. The complexity of control system testing requires higher scheduling efficiency. However, perturbation events caused by test equipment problems, data transmission obstacles, or task changes are almost unavoidable and may reduce the scheduling effectiveness or even lead to system crashes. Therefore, in this paper, based on the analysis of the dynamic test scheduling model, a disturbance factor is designed to judge the urgency of disturbance events for evaluating the dynamic scheduling cycle. On this basis, based on the comprehensive rescheduling index, a suitable adjustment strategy is selected to formulate the dynamic test scheduling scheme. The experimental results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper can achieve fast response capability for different disturbance events and exhibit good adaptivity.

Microbial consortia are promising biotechnological production systems with the potential to divide complex metabolic pathways into smaller submodules, as well as make products and consume substrates that monocultures cannot. Maintaining optimal cell population levels and preventing mono culture formation challenge bioproduction by microbial consortia. Optogenetics allows for regulating the expression of key growth-regulatory genes through light to modulate cell population levels. Model-based dynamic optimization can determine optimal light trajectories and inoculum sizes that maximize product synthesis while satisfying system constraints, e.g., safety, economic, or technical aspects. Further-more, closed-loop dynamic optimization can address system uncertainty to a certain extent;however, its implementation is challenging due to limited online sensors. Alternatively, here we propose to perform open-loop optimization with batch-to-batch model adaptation based on Gaussian processes for maximizing bioproduction by optogenetically assisted consortia. The proposed approach enables knowledge transfer from existing to new models, improving predictability and optimization performance in each batch while avoiding costly and time-consuming modeling experiments. Compared to closed-loop optimization, this strategy is easier to implement as it does not rely on online monitoring, contributing to the state of the art in optimizing bioproduction by microbial consortia. We outline the applicability of the approach using simulation experiments of an optogenetically assisted consortium for the biosynthesis of the flavonoid naringenin, considering both parameter and model structure uncertainty. © 2023 ICROS.

When synthesizing concurrent error-detection circuit using the signal's Boolean correction method, it is needed to drop the masking of errors at the checker inputs-the system "last watch-dog". This task appears since for the signal's correction from the diagnosis object, the distortion type may change. This causes the codeword of the given code to be set at the checker inputs. The authors consider the finding conditions problem for the undetectable error's absence at the checker inputs when checking calculations by the signal's Boolean correction method using the constant-weight code "2-out-of-5". The checker of this code detects any errors at the inputs, except for those errors that distort the same number of off-bits and on-bits-symmetrical errors. A condition is formulated, following which allows to fix in practice the facts of the symmetrical error's potential formation at the checker inputs and use circuit techniques to parry them. The results obtained by can be generalized to the case of using arbitrary constant-weight code for organizing concurrent error-detection circuit using the signal's Boolean correction method. © 2023 IEEE.

LoRaWAN, a globally utilized LPWAN technology, is predominantly studied and deployed within the European EU868 (868 MHz) and USA US915 (915 MHz) frequency bands, with a vast amount of literature documenting its applications in these regions. However, there is a noticeable gap in research concerning other frequency bands, such as the Australian AU915, which is also utilized in Brazil. This paper aims to explore the characteristics of the AU915 frequency band in Brazil, and how it can affect the performance of an ambience monitoring system application. The study not only focuses on LoRaWAN metrics within the AU915 frequency band but also reveals the practical implications of its unique characteristics. The experiments analyze architectural delays and success rates across various Data Rates (DR) for uplink and downlink messages at different distances, considering the absence of uplink dwell time restrictions. The results demonstrate that, in ambient monitoring systems, different data rates (DRs) significantly influence transmission delays. Additionally, the Uplink Dwell Time restriction eliminates the use of DR0 and DR1 rates, and restricts DR2 in applications using LoRaWAN AU915 in Brazil, directly impacting the success rate of transmissions and, consequently, its network coverage.
