A Reference Process for Assessing the Reliability of Predictive Analytics Results

Organizations employ data mining to discover patterns in historic data in order to learn predictive models. Depending on the predictive model the predictions may be more or less accurate, raising the question about the reliability of individual predictions. This paper proposes a reference process aligned with the CRISP-DM to enable the assessment of reliability of individual predictions obtained from a predictive model. The reference process describes activities along the different stages of the development process required to establish a reliability assessment approach for a predictive model. The paper then presents in more detail two specific approaches for reliability assessment: perturbation of input cases and local quality measures. Furthermore, this paper describes elements of a knowledge graph to capture important metadata about the development process and training data. The knowledge graph serves to properly configure and employ the reliability assessment approaches. © The Author(s) 2024.

Scientific knowledge Graphs have recently become a powerful tool for exploring the research landscape and assisting scientific inquiry. It is crucial to generate and validate these resources to ensure they offer a comprehensive and accurate representation of specific research fields. However, manual approaches are not scalable, while automated methods often result in lower-quality resources. In this paper, we investigate novel validation techniques to improve the accuracy of automated KG generation methodologies, leveraging both a human-in-the-loop (HiL) and a large language model (LLM)-in-the-loop. Using the automated generation pipeline of the Computer Science knowledge Graph as a case study, we demonstrate that precision can be increased by 12% (from 75% to 87%) using only LLMs. Moreover, a hybrid approach incorporating both LLMs and HiL significantly enhances both precision and recall, resulting in a 4% increase in the F1 score (from 77% to 81%). © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Accelerating regional economic growth is needed to be able to catch up with a region, especially if the region has economic potential, especially in terms of natural capital, such as a beautiful environment. However, in practice, a development process will experience obstacles as an inseparable part. This condition certainly requires appropriate treatment efforts based on empirical evidence data. This also happened to West Lombok. Where in fact the regions that get the opportunity to become Smart City pilots certainly have a positive impact, but the challenges that must be carried out also go hand in hand with the process of implementing these efforts. Referring to this background, the purpose of this research is to be able to explore and analyze the challenges experienced by West Lombok in implementing the Smart City program in its region. The method used is qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of documentation studies, observations, interviews, and focus group discussions. This study involved 50 informants with various backgrounds but still in accordance with the characteristics of the informants determined by the researcher through the use of purposive sampling technique. The results of this study are that there are four challenges that need to get more attention from the local government of West Lombok and its stakeholders as an effort to realize West Lombok as a smart city. The four challenges include policy, infrastructure, human capital, and environment. The need for strategic efforts carried out by West Lombok to be able to encourage the achievement of the target of becoming a smart city in Indonesia, especially in West Nusa Tenggara Province. © 2023 IEEE.

The increasing use of robot applications in various industries requires close monitoring and management of the data generated by these systems. Therefore, it is essential to implement a monitoring system that identifies and reports abnormal situations in robots. The literature differentiates between rule-based and machine learning methods. Rule-based approaches rely on predefined rules to detect deviations from expected behavior. In contrast, machine learning algorithms acquire the ability to learn patterns on their own. This paper evaluates both approaches to determine whether machine learning algorithms can replace or enhance rule-based methods. The evaluation employs an actual production scenario that deals with three induced anomalies: Additional weight, drop of the manipulated object, and reduced speed.

In recent years, multi-label feature selection has been widely used in fields such as bioinformatics, information retrieval, and multimedia annotation. Most of the previous multi-label feature selection methods are directly transformed from the traditional single-label feature selection methods, or they cannot make full use of label information. As a result, the selected feature subset involves features that are redundant or irrelevant to label information. Moreover, most algorithms do not use discretization when processing continuous data sets, so they cannot effectively eliminate the interference of abnormal data. In order to solve these problems, based on the GRRO (Global Relevance and Redundancy Optimization) algorithm, the JS divergence is used to better measure the overall similarity between two distributions and introduces data discretization preprocessing operations for continuous data sets. The experimental results after experimental verification on ten typical high-dimensional biological data sets show that the GRRO-JS algorithm is superior to the traditional multi-label feature selection method and the GRRO algorithm in terms of accuracy and efficiency and has high practical value. © 2024 IEEE.

The concept of privacy-by-design has gained considerable attention in the wake of legal requirements that software systems should fulfill. The interconnected knowledge on privacy concepts, legal requirements, and software development artifacts required to implement this concept can be a major burden for organizations. To address this challenge, we propose a knowledge graph-based Exploratory Search system to help organizations complete privacy engineering tasks. We identify major requirements of such systems and develop an Exploratory Search prototype built on privacy engineering knowledge that integrates different information sources. While still preliminary, this work serves as a foundation for future research on integrating privacy knowledge into software development and demonstrates the potential of Exploratory Search Systems to support the cognitive process in privacy tasks such as privacy threat identification. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

The medical context for a drug indication provides crucial information on how the drug can be used in practice. However, the extraction of medical context from drug indications remains poorly explored, as most research concentrates on the recognition of medications and associated diseases. Indeed, most databases cataloging drug indications do not contain their medical context in a machine-readable format. This paper proposes the use of a large language model for constructing DIAMOND-KG, a knowledge graph of drug indications and their medical context. The study 1) examines the change in accuracy and precision in providing additional instruction to the language model, 2) estimates the prevalence of medical context in drug indications, and 3) assesses the quality of DIAMOND-KG against NeuroDKG, a small manually curated knowledge graph. The results reveal that more elaborated prompts improve the quality of extraction of medical context;71% of indications had at least one medical context;63.52% of extracted medical contexts correspond to those identified in NeuroDKG. This paper demonstrates the utility of using large language models for specialized knowledge extraction, with a particular focus on extracting drug indications and their medical context. We provide DIAMOND-KG as a FAIR RDF graph supported with an ontology. Openly accessible, DIAMOND-KG may be useful for downstream tasks such as semantic query answering, recommendation engines, and drug repositioning research. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Automation has been recognized as a possible solution for increasing air traffic controller workload trends. This paper presents a methodology for creating an air traffic control knowledge graph, which is used as part of a hybrid artificial intelligence system for air traffic control operations. The system combines machine learning and symbolic reasoning with the purpose of achieving artificial situational awareness in a narrow domain of en-route air traffic control operations. This approach allows the use of user-defined knowledge alongside existing knowledge repositories. The novel knowledge graph development methodology is universal for any area of air traffic management which relies on the aeronautical information exchange models. In this paper we also present the open-source tools which were developed to make this approach possible and system performance evaluations. Future work should address achieving real-time operation and additional task automation, accompanied by appropriate ontology and graph expansion.
