In the recent years, resource allocation problems for energy harvesting nodes have been studied extensively. While a large portion of these contributions focus on the transmit side, less attention has been paid to the receive side or jointly on both sides. In this work, we investigate the joint optimization of transmit and receive policies for a pair of energy harvesting nodes, in the basic setting of point-to-point communication over a single link. The discrete energy arrivals at the two nodes are assumed as independent Poisson processes, and are only known to the respective nodes causally. To this end, we model the system as two decentralized Markov decision processes, which do not share information about their local states but are coupled only through a global reward function, namely, the average throughput of the system. We first compute an upper bound on the system performance by assuming a central controller which is aware of the states of both nodes, and applying the policy-iteration algorithm. Then, based on the transition-independent property of the problem, we employ a low-complexity bilinear programming approach, which, via comparison with the obtained upper bound, is shown to produce local policies with very good performance.

Joint measurement of stochastic parameters of a low noise amplifier (LNA), based on output power measurement for input termination impedances is considered. As an advantage of this method the noise parameters can be determined in a quick way for narrow and broad band applications without special equipment. Knowing the noise parameters helps the user designing both matching networks for given low noise amplifiers and for optimizing amplifiers. Four real parameters characterize the amplifier with the noise figure as function of the matching network. About ten different values for input termination impedances also provide an estimation of sensitivity and accuracy of this new method.

This paper studies the physical layer performance of a lean carrier with reduced reference symbols and reduced control channel overhead as a possible candidate for a new 5G air interface. Specifically, we will show that, with minor modifications and optimizations, competitive link level performance can be achieved even in extreme use case scenarios using synchronization and channel estimation algorithms already employed in LTE-A. Further, we propose a set of enhancements to the broadcast channel and to the common search space configurations to fully dispense with cell specific reference symbols and legacy control channels.

This paper provides solutions for per-user multistream transmissions in FBMC/OQAM based multi-user MIMO downlink systems under highly frequency selective propagation conditions. A signal-to-leakage-plus-noise-ratio (SLNR) based metric is proposed, and it is tailored for the downlink of FBMC/OQAMbased multi-user MIMO settings. Then at the base station, per-subcarrier fractionally spaced multi-tap precoders are computed based on this metric to mitigate the multi-user interference (MUI), the inter-symbol interference (ISI), as well as the inter-carrier interference (ICI) and to map the multiple data streams of each user to the transmit antennas. With the base station carrying most of the computational load, each user terminal only employs a zero-forcing (ZF) based one-tap spatial equalizer to recover the desired streams. Simulation results show that the proposed SLNR based precoding scheme achieves satisfactory performances in various multi-user MIMO downlink scenarios. It significantly outperforms the existing algorithms that require the channel on each subcarrier to be flat fading.

We aim at investigating the impact of low resolution digital-to-analog converters (DACs) at the transmitter and low resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) at the receiver on the required bandwidth and the required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In particular, we consider the extreme case of only 1-bit resolution (with oversampling), where we propose a single carrier system architecture for minimizing the spectral occupation and the required SNR of 1-bit signals. In addition, the receiver is optimized to take into account the effects of quantization at both ends. Through simulations, we show that despite of the coarse quantization, sufficient spectral confinement is still achievable.
