People who have trouble communicating verbally are often dependent on sign language,which can be difficult for most people to understand,making interaction with them a difficult *** Sign Language Recognition(SLR)system takes an input expression from a hearing or speaking-impaired person and outputs it in the form of text or voice to a normal *** existing study related to the Sign Language Recognition system has some drawbacks,such as a lack of large datasets and datasets with a range of backgrounds,skin tones,and *** research efficiently focuses on Sign Language Recognition to overcome previous *** importantly,we use our proposed Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)model,“ConvNeural”,in order to train our ***,we develop our own datasets,“BdSL_OPSA22_STATIC1”and“BdSL_OPSA22_STATIC2”,both of which have ambiguous backgrounds.“BdSL_OPSA22_STATIC1”and“BdSL_OPSA22_STATIC2”both include images of Bangla characters and numerals,a total of 24,615 and 8437 images,***“ConvNeural”model outperforms the pre-trained models with accuracy of 98.38%for“BdSL_OPSA22_STATIC1”and 92.78%for“BdSL_OPSA22_STATIC2”.For“BdSL_OPSA22_STATIC1”dataset,we get precision,recall,F1-score,sensitivity and specificity of 96%,95%,95%,99.31%,and 95.78%***,in case of“BdSL_OPSA22_STATIC2”dataset,we achieve precision,recall,F1-score,sensitivity and specificity of 90%,88%,88%,100%,and 100%respectively.

An Integrated Framework with Enhanced Primitives for Post-Quantum Cryptography: HEDT and ECSIDH for Cloud Data Security and Key Exchange

If adversaries were to obtain quantum computers in the future, their massive computing power would likely break existing security schemes. Since security is a continuous process, more substantial security schemes must be developed. Current PQC schemes primarily focus on data security or key exchange, and further improvement towards enhanced PQC primitives is required. Our proposal in this research is an innovative paradigm for PQC-focused cloud data security. The proposed HEDT approach achieves encryption and decryption with significantly lower latency (20% improvement) and higher reliability than AES, DES, and RSA, as demonstrated through experimental results. Furthermore, ECSIDH, a hybrid key exchange mechanism combining SIDH and ECDH, improves security strength by 50% while maintaining computational costs within 1.13x of SIDH. Compared to individual key exchange schemes like SIDH, ECSIDH offers superior security as a PQC candidate. These results confirm the robustness and efficiency of the proposed framework in ensuring secure data outsourcing and key exchange in cloud environments. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. Enhancing patient-independent detection of freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease with deep adversarial network

Freezing of gait (FoG) refers to sudden, relatively brief episodes of gait arrest in Parkinson’s disease, known to manifest in the advanced stages of the condition. Events of freezing are associated with tumbles, traumas, and psychological repercussions, significantly impacting the patient’s quality of life. The use of accelerometer data derived from sensors put on a patient’s body to detect FoG has previously been proposed using convolutional neural network (CNN)-based deep learning algorithms. Here, we combine a CNN + Long short-term Memory (LSTM)-attention model to detect FoG episodes—a first for the detection of FoG using the accelerometer data. CNN facilitates automatic feature extraction from the accelerometer data itself. The output from the CNN is fed to the LSTM network, which is known for capturing sequential information. Further, the attention mechanism introduces relative focus on individual sub-sequences during the training of the LSTM network. The proposed model is made patient independent using adversarial training. The proposed model achieved improvements of +7.60% (without adversarial training) and + 8.36% (with adversarial training) in the sensitivity values over state of the art. This is obtained with little or no compromise in specificity values. The corresponding improvements in accuracy values are +3.81 and +2.23%, respectively. These findings imply that the proposed method can detect FoG gaits satisfactorily and can be effective in achieving accurate monitoring and gait assistance for Parkinson’s disease patients during daily life and rehabilitation therapy. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Parkinson's disease (PD) diagnosis involves the assessment of a variety of motor and non-motor symptoms. To accurately diagnose PD, it is necessary to differentiate its symptoms from those of other conditions. During the diagnosis process, clinicians must consider gait abnormalities as one of the key symptoms. However, relying solely on clinical judgment for the diagnosis of PD may have limitations. In this work, we have proposed a Multikernel SVM (MK-SVM) based Parkinson's severity analysis method. Initially, an adaptive median filter is used to reduce the noise in the gait image. Then, to extract the features, we propose a dual-layer method that employs stacked autoencoders (SAEs) for local feature extraction and residual deep convolution neural networks (RDCNN) for global feature extraction. The hyper-parameters from the RDCNN are optimized using the Enhanced walrus optimization algorithm (EWO). In the final step, we use MK-SVM to classify PD according to severity. This model is evaluated using the GAIT-IT and GAIT-IST datasets. With the help of Python, we evaluated the proposed model in terms of precision, accuracy, recall, specificity, and F-scores, and the model achieved a maximum accuracy of 97.3%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Beyond chat-GPT: a BERT-AO approach to custom question answering system

This work introduces a novel Custom Question Answering (CQA) model leveraging Adam optimized Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT-AO). This model tackles the challenge of combining textual and visual information for accurate question answering. The core concept lies in understanding the intricate relationships between words in text and the visual features within images. The proposed CQA model with BERT-AO incorporates separate branches for processing text (BERT-AO) and images (CNN), both utilizing self-attention mechanisms. This enables a deeper understanding of context within both textual and visual data. Training is conducted on a comprehensive dataset encompassing factual, open-ended questions, answers, and images, providing a strong foundation for the model’s learning process. The performance of the proposed CQA Model with BERT-AO attains 20.46%, 36.86%, 43.98%, 19.97%, and 17.604% higher accuracy and 27.42%, 41.56%, 42.78%, 18.72% and 16.15% higher F-Score value compared with existing methods like Enhancing Bridge Inspection Visual Question Answering via Pre-Training with External Image-Text Data (VLP), LOIS: Exploring Instance Semantics for Visual Question Answering (LOIS), Bidirectional Multimodal Attention Networks for Visual Question Answering (BiGAN), A Pairwise Attention Framework with Word and Sentence Embedding for Visual Question Answering (DALNet-WSE) and Enhanced GNN Focused Attention and Hybridized Optimization Approach for Visual Inquiry Resolution (GNN-SA-MRFO) respectively. Silver Lining in the Fake News Cloud: Can Large Language Models Help Detect Misinformation?

In the times of advanced generative artificial intelligence, distinguishing truth from fallacy and deception has become a critical societal challenge. This research attempts to analyze the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) for detecting misinformation. Our study employs a versatile approach, covering multiple LLMs with few- and zero-shot prompting. These models are rigorously evaluated across various fake news and rumor detection datasets. Introducing a novel dimension, we additionally incorporate sentiment and emotion annotations to understand the emotional influence on misinformation detection using LLMs. Moreover, to extend our inquiry, we employ ChatGPT to intentionally distort authentic news as well as human-written fake news, utilizing zero-shot and iterative prompts. This deliberate corruption allows for a detailed examination of various parameters such as abstractness, concreteness, and named entity density, providing insights into differentiating between unaltered news, human-written fake news, and its LLM-corrupted counterpart. Our findings aspire to furnish a refined framework for discerning authentic news, human-generated misinformation, and LLM-induced distortions. This multifaceted approach, utilizing various prompt techniques, contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the subtle variations shaping misinformation sources. © 2024 IEEE.

Question classification task based on deep learning models with self-attention mechanism

Question classification (QC) is a process that involves classifying questions based on their type to enable systems to provide accurate responses by matching the question type with relevant information. To understand and respond to natural language questions posed by humans, machine learning models or systems must comprehend the type of information requested, which can often be inferred from the structure and wording of the question. The high dimensionality and sparse nature of text data lead to challenges for text classification. These tasks can be improved using deep learning (DL) approaches to process complex patterns and features within input data. By training on large amounts of labeled data, deep learning algorithms can automatically extract relevant features and representations from text, resulting in more accurate and robust classification. This study utilizes a dataset comprising 5452 instances of questions and six output labels and uses two different word embedding techniques, like GloVe and Word2Vec, tested on the dataset using three deep learning models, LSTM, BiLSTM, and GRU, followed by a convolution layer. Additionally, a self-attention layer is included, which helps the model to focus on more relevant information when making predictions. Finally, an analytical discussion of the proposed models and their performance results provide insight into how GloVe and Word2Vec perform on the above-mentioned models. The GloVe embedding outperforms by achieving 97.68% accuracy and a moderate loss of 16.98 with the GRU model. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Apple Leaf Disease Detection Using Transfer Learning

Automated detection of plant diseases is crucial as it simplifies the task of monitoring large farms and identifies diseases at their early stages to mitigate further plant degradation. Besides the decline in plant health, reduced production severely impacts the country’s economy. Traditional disease identification methods, relying on human experts, are slow, time-consuming, and impractical for large farms. Our proposed model utilizes a combination of pre-trained Resnet18, Alexnet, GoogLeNet, and VGG16 networks to classify apple tree leaves into categories such as healthy, black rot, apple cedar rust, and apple scab based on images. Various image enhancement techniques were employed to enhance the model’s accuracy. Ultimately, our model achieved an accuracy of 97.25% on the validation dataset, demonstrating excellent performance across various metrics. Utilizing attention mechanism with exemplar memory for improving domain adaptive person re-identification

In an Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (UDA) task, extracted features from the entire image lead to a negative transfer of irrelevant knowledge. An attention mechanism may highlight the suitable transferable region of an image. Here in this paper, the representative power of the deep re-identification (re-ID) network of an exemplar memory-based domain adaptive unsupervised Person Re-identification (PRId) model is increased with our chosen optimal Bottleneck Attention Module (BAM). Performance enhancement of the deep re-ID network itself has been attempted by very few research works, suffering from a misinterpretation of global features or non-determination of local features due to the presence of occlusions, background interference, view-point variations, low camera resolution, etc. The proposed approach shows remarkable performance improvement in these specific challenging scenarios. Our attention-enabled unsupervised PRId model is evaluated in a cross-platform environment by labeled training in the DukeMTMC-reID dataset and unlabeled target testing in the Market-1501 dataset. The proposed method also enhances the overall performance of our baseline architecture. It provides a 2.12% relative increment in mean Average Precision (mAP) value, 0.93% increment in Top-1 value, 0.33% increment in Top-10 value, and 0.53% increment in Top-20 value respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
