Intent-based networking is increasingly used to improve network control and management. Network operators have already begun to adopt this paradigm, which leads to a simplified and automatized network operation. The operators can interact with their intent-driven networks through the Northbound Interface (NBI). Given a standardized NBI, the same approach can scale to coordinate intent provisioning across multi-domain networks in a decentralized fashion. This can outdate traditional decentralized protocols and open new opportunities for flexible and scalable communication mechanisms. This paper proposes a minimal and general high-level architecture, relying on a standard IBN (Intent-Based Networking) architecture, for multi-domain intent deployment in IP-optical networks. Our architecture is consistent between diverse network operators that use the same NBI, respects confidential information, promotes accountability, and can scale for various network services. To achieve this, we introduce a hierarchical system-generated intent schema with automatic intent delegation between the different domains.

Diffuse horizontal irradiance (DHI) forecasts are critical for adopting solar photovoltaic technology. Yet, they can lack reliability given the limited and uncertain meteorological data available for desert areas. This research develops a new sine cosine dipper throated optimization (SCDTO) technique, targeting DHI prediction even given such data constraints. SCDTO uniquely hybridizes sine cosine metaheuristics, adept at exploration, with dipper throat optimization, providing focused exploitation. This hybridization aims to create a robust ensemble model capable of delivering reliable DHI predictions despite climatic uncertainty. The ensemble model, employing various input combinations, was rigorously evaluated across multiple meteorological stations. The SCDTO algorithm exhibited remarkable performance improvements, yielding substantial reductions exceeding 93% in root mean squared error and 98% in mean absolute error at key stations in Morocco, including Tan-Tan, Zagora, Erfoud, and Oujda. Comparative analyses against established optimization algorithms consistently underscored the superior predictive capabilities of SCDTO. Visualizations, including box plots and histograms, demonstrated SCDTO’s efficacy in minimizing prediction errors, particularly for Tan-Tan, Zagora, and Erfoud stations. Also, statistical validation through one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) further affirmed the significance of the proposed SCDTO method. Therefore, this hybrid metaheuristic optimization enables more accurate DHI predictions from limited meteorological data. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

With increasing numbers of mobile robots arriving in real-world applications, more robots coexist in the same space, interact, and possibly collaborate. Methods to provide such systems with system size scalability are known, for example, from swarm robotics. Example strategies are self-organizing behavior, a strict decentralized approach, and limiting the robot-robot communication. Despite applying such strategies, any multi-robot system breaks above a certain critical system size (i.e., number of robots) as too many robots share a resource (e.g., space, communication channel). We provide additional evidence based on simulations, that at these critical system sizes, the system performance separates into two phases: nearly optimal and minimal performance. We speculate that in real-world applications that are configured for optimal system size, the supposedly high-performing system may actually live on borrowed time as it is on a transient to breakdown. We provide two modeling options (based on queueing theory and a population model) that may help to support this reasoning.

A Digital Twin for Mobility (DTmob) is based on the digital representation of the real-world transport system. A crucial element underlying the development of such systems is an accurate simulation of traffic flows within the road network, which is generally based on transport demand data in the form of Origin-Destination (O-D) matrices. Estimating demand matrices accurately is a complex challenge, as they are hindered by incomplete data, inaccuracies in transport models and temporal-spatial variability. In this paper we present an integrated methodological approach for the calibration of O-D matrices via the implementation of an iterative calibration procedure incorporating a traffic survey dataset, followed by the assignment procedure performed by a macrosimulation model. This study addresses this issue by employing Nielsen’s Single Path Matrix Estimation Method (SPME) jointly with the macrosimulation tool PTV Visum, developing a script in Python to achieve their integration. We tested it on the real-case study of Catania urban road network (Italy). Several scenarios have been analyzed and evaluated through the GEH statistic as KPI, also providing results with Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method as benchmark. Obtained results prove the validity of our integrated framework as the threshold in terms of the difference between estimated and counted flows was satisfied in all performed analyses. Research findings lay the basis for investigate further calibration algorithms and for exploring the use of real-time data in line with DTmob requirements.

This study delves into the impact of artificial intelligence on students' *** paper pioneers the use of k-means classification to reduce the dimensionality of features before the classification process, which minimizes redundant information and computational overhead. This step is not commonly found in prior ***, a random forest model is established with "whether AI assistance was used to complete the paper" as the output, and various features as inputs. The analysis of the predictive accuracy when changing input features reveals the degree of influence of each feature on using AI to complete the paper. After feature selection, the remaining 6 features can still effectively predict the use of AI to complete the paper, indicating the representativeness of the extracted indicators. Subsequently, the PCA-K-means algorithm is employed to classify the use of artificial intelligence. PCA algorithm is used for dimensionality reduction of the extracted features to better characterize students' use of AI. Three representative variables are selected, and the contribution of each feature is computed based on the factor loading matrix. Finally, the K-means algorithm is used to classify students based on the three-dimensional features, showing that students can be effectively classified into 2 categories. The results indicate that the majority of students support the use of AI technology to enhance their abilities, although some students may only intend to use AI to cope with exams and similar tasks. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Nowadays, manufacturing companies face more difficulties than ever. Unrest in global supply chains triggered by fluctuating customer demand, raw material shortages and crises (Covid pandemic, global warming, wars) complicate the utilization of production resources necessary for economic success. Also, the rapidly changing environment causes existing production plans to be adapted, which results in order changes, causing additional costs for manufacturers. One solution to cope with these problems is cooperation and sharing resources: requesting capacity from partners when having shortages and offering them temporarily in case of excess capacity. In this paper, a platform-based resource sharing mechanism is investigated from the economic perspective. In the mechanism, requests and offers are matched by a central platform applying a complex matching logic. The platform provides valid alternatives based on the incoming ordersthat the requesting company can choose from. Companies are rating each other's performance after each interaction based on delivery accuracy;choosing between resource offers is made based on the cumulated rating about the offeror and the price of the offer. Within this paper, the aim is to investigate the resource sharing mechanism from the economic point of view based on an approach to the responsiveness of a supply chain structure to turbulence, to support decision-makers trying to cope with unexpected changes. For this purpose, here the mechanism is briefly introduced, and basic concepts about turbulences in supply chains are also presented. Cost types related to resource sharing manufacturing companies are distinguished, and the model is validated with agent-based simulation. A simulation experiment is performed to investigate the use-case of outsourced jobs having different price levels. Based on the experiment, it can be concluded that there is a price level limit in such a resource sharing federation, under which it is worth it to collaborate

Collecting large-scale medical datasets with fully annotated samples for training of deep networks is prohibitively expensive, especially for 3D volume data. Recent breakthroughs in self-supervised learning (SSL) offer the ability to overcome the lack of labeled training samples by learning feature representations from unlabeled data. However, most current SSL techniques in the medical field have been designed for either 2D images or 3D volumes. In practice, this restricts the capability to fully leverage unlabeled data from numerous sources, which may include both 2D and 3D data. Additionally, the use of these pre-trained networks is constrained to downstream tasks with compatible data dimensions. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for unsupervised joint learning on 2D and 3D data modalities. Given a set of 2D images or 2D slices extracted from 3D volumes, we construct an SSL task based on a 2D contrastive clustering problem for distinct classes. The 3D volumes are exploited by computing vectored embedding at each slice and then assembling a holistic feature through deformable self-attention mechanisms in Transformer, allowing incorporating long-range dependencies between slices inside 3D volumes. These holistic features are further utilized to define a novel 3D clustering agreement-based SSL task and masking embedding prediction inspired by pre-trained language models. Experiments on downstream tasks, such as 3D brain segmentation, lung nodule detection, 3D heart structures segmentation, and abnormal chest X-ray detection, demonstrate the effectiveness of our joint 2D and 3D SSL approach. We improve plain 2D Deep-ClusterV2 and SwAV by a significant margin and also surpass various modern 2D and 3D SSL approaches. This paper considers data secrecy in distributed storage systems (DSSs) using maximally recoverable locally repairable codes (MR-LRCs). Conventional MR-LRCs are in general not secure against eavesdroppers who can observe the transmitted data during a global repair operation. This work enables nonzero secrecy dimension of DSSs encoded by MR-LRCs through a new repair framework. The key idea is to associate each local group with a central processing unit (CPU), which aggregates and transmits the contribution from the intact nodes of their group to the CPU of a group needing a global repair. The aggregation is enabled by so-called local polynomials that can be generated independently in each group. Two different schemes - direct repair and forwarded repair - are considered, and their secrecy dimension using MR-LRCs is derived. Positive secrecy dimension is enabled for several parameter regimes.
