This paper presents an innovative approach to identifying defects in alloy wheel production by integrating image processing techniques with a mobile application platform. The system receives X-ray alloy images from the factory via mobile phone, processes them using image processing techniques to enhance clarity and readiness for defect detection, and then transmits the processed images to a Django framework via a uniform resource locator (URL). Subsequently, the system detects defects in the images, encodes them in Base64 format, and sends them to the mobile application through an API (Application Program Interface) for display on the user interface. This well-designed system architecture offers manufacturers a comprehensive solution to ensure product quality, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.

The National Research Data Infrastructure for Catalysis-Related Sciences (NFDI4Cat) is one of the disciplinary consortia formed within the German national research data infrastructure (NFDI), an effort undertaken by the German federal and state governments to advance the digitalization of all scientific research data within the German academic system in accordance with the FAIR principles. This work reports on initial outcomes from the NFDI4Cat project. The data value chain in catalysis research is analysed, and architecture and interoperability requirements are identified by conducting user interviews, collecting competency questions, and exploring the landscape of semantic artefacts. Methods from agile software development are employed to collect, organize, and present the collected requirements;workflows are annotated on the basis of metadata standards for research data provenance, by which requirements for domain ontologies in catalysis are deduced. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Characterizing critical behavior and band tails on the metal-insulator transition in structurally disordered two-dimensional semiconductors: Autocorrelation and multifractal analysis

Our previous study observed the localization-delocalization transition and critical quantum fluctuations of the local density of states (LDOS) on the structurally disordered two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor MoS2. This transition corresponds to the metal-insulator transition (MIT) reported in transport measurements. The structural disorder in MoS2 caused curvature-induced band gap fluctuations, leading to charge localization and unusual band edge flattening through doping. The critical behavior for the MIT was analyzed using autocorrelation and multifractality of LDOS mapping results. However, the effect of structural disorder on critical points has not been fully explored. Here, we systematically investigated the impact of structural disorder on band tail formation and critical doping concentration by examining the radial-averaged autocorrelation and multifractality of LDOS in 2D semiconductors. Our finding indicates that the radial-averaged autocorrelation and multifractality of LDOS characterize the band tail ranges and band edge flattening in disordered 2D semiconductors. Decaying regions in the radial-averaged autocorrelation profile and first-order derivative of singularity peak positions determine band tail ranges. Increased structural disorder led to larger band tail widths near valence and conduction band edges, while the doping-induced band edge flattening altered band tail widths for each valence and conduction band. As the band edge is flattened due to doping, the LDOS map near the critical energy becomes uniform, exhibiting a divergence in the localization length. The average value of conduction and valence band tail widths remained almost constant regardless of doping control, serving as a representative value for the degree of structural disorder. For the MIT, we found that the critical doping concentration depends on the degree of structural disorder in 2D semiconductors. One of key errors of the classic interference-type fiber-optic goniometer is the thermo-optical zero shift. Its caused by the non-uniform change of temperature of different fiber sections in the loop under the influence of temperature;as a result of that, counter-rotating waves get different phase incursions during stretching of fiber in the loop, thus creating thermo-optical zero shift (Shupe effect). Difference of the phase incursions of counter-rotating waves is the bigger the higher speed of fiber length change is, and the higher difference of delay time of those waves. The current study is focused on the modeling of influence of the Shupe effect on on the precision of the fiber optic goniometer. The key features of the goniometer mentioned are use of the copper coil carcass and compound with high thermal conductivity (use of nanotubes is desired). Different coil winding types (simple, dipole quadrupole, modified quadrupole, bifilar, octupole) are considered from the point of view of minimizing the thermo-optical zero shift under self-heating and influence of the ambient temperature changes. Analysis is based on the transient thermal analysis of finite element model of the goniometer performed in ANSYS environment with subsequent data import and integration of phase incursion, calculated based on temperature data, along the fiber length. Study results show that best results during self-heating gives the use of quadrupole winding, at that goniometer's zero shift changes insignificantly (about 0.08°, compared to 1,35° for the simple winding). Change of ambient temperature for a given design has almost no influence on the zero shift, as device is heated uniformly. One should note that as during modeling not all factors could be taken into account, the result obtained should be checked and qualified during FOG tests. © 2022 IEEE.

Virtual Reality (VR) technology has grown and emerged in the tourism industry. It offering immersive and interactive experiences, VR has transformed how people discover and interact with the VRML and people interact with different destinations. This article explores the use of VR in tourism, and focusing on Virtual Reality Markup Language (VRML) and its role in showcasing the evolution of head-mounted displays (HMDs) and the various applications of VR. It emphasizes how VR can improve travel experiences, aid in destination planning, preserve cultural heritage, support adventure tourism, and revolutionize destination marketing. The article also gives the challenges and limitations faced by VR in tourism, as well as future trends and opportunities in the field. The article impact of VR on the tourism industry and discusses the combination of Augmented Reality (AR) and VR to create virtual art exhibitions in physical and online spaces. Additionally, it provides insights into the future of VR, AR, and Mixed Reality (MR), the use of VRML, and the development of 3D modeling for creating virtual environments that help users achieve learning objectives.

Well-posedness analysis of the Cahn-Hilliard-Biot model

We investigate the well-posedness of the recently proposed Cahn-Hilliard-Biot model. The model is a three-way coupled PDE of elliptic-parabolic nature, with several nonlinearities and the fourth order term known to the Cahn-Hilliard system. We show existence of weak solutions to the variational form of the equations and uniqueness under certain conditions of the material parameters and secondary consolidation, adding regularizing effects. Existence is shown by discretizing in space and applying ODE-theory (the Peano-Cauchy theorem) to prove existence of the discrete system, followed by compactness arguments to retain solutions of the continuous system. In addition, the continuous dependence of solutions on the data is established, in particular implying uniqueness. Both results build strongly on the inherent gradient flow structure of the model. The rise in quantum-computing systems, space electronics, and superconducting processors requires compatible cryogenic memories. The stringent operating conditions for these applications put additional constraints on the endurance and reliable operation of such memories. Ferroelectric-Field Effect Transistors (FeFETs) based on ferroelectric properties of the Hafnium Zirconium Oxide (HZO) can be an excellent choice for these systems. This requires a thorough characterization of FeFET at deep cryogenic temperatures. Also, the scalability of the FeFET to lower technology nodes implies a lower area and reduced leakage. In this work, we, therefore, fully characterize the 5 nm node Fe-FinFET from 10 K to 400 K. To this end, the underlying 5 nm node FinFET transistor is calibrated with experimental data from cryogenic temperatures to above-room temperatures. The material parameters of the Ferroelectric layer are also calibrated with reported measurement data. We propose that the reported endurance improvement of the HZO layer at cryogenic temperatures can improve the reliability of the Fe-FinFET. The observed wake-up and fatigue at higher temperatures are also nonexistent at cryogenic temperatures. Although the memory window is reduced at cryogenic temperature compared to room temperature, we can still hold multiple states. This is also verified through our simulations. Lastly, we demonstrate the variability in high and low threshold voltage (V TH ) states due to extrinsic variation sources of the underlying transistor and ferroelectric material parameters. We observe a relatively lower variation at cryogenic temperature.

Developing force control mechanisms employing electromagnetic solutions is on the rise in active control applications for flexible mechanical systems, like marine engines and shipboard machinery. Electromagnetic control devices offer superior performance indicators compared to traditional mechanical force actuators in terms of longevity, energy efficiency, maintenance requirements, rapid control response, and high operating speeds. This article investigates the use of magnetic actuation and switching power electronics in addressing the stabilization and tracking control challenges encountered in the dynamics of a mechanical system with a single degree of freedom, comprising mass, spring, and damper elements. Particularly, a linear mechanical oscillator is nonlinearly coupled with an electromagnet and its associated driving circuit via the magnetic field. The electromagnetically actuated mechanical system exhibits characteristics of a deferentially flat nonlinear system. A control strategy is suggested for the purpose of tracking reference position trajectories using output feedback linearization. The synthetic linearized control signal is subsequently guided to a DC–DC buck converter, able to regulate the system's input voltage in a wide range of operation, by switching the duty cycle. The converter is described using a precise electrical model of the system, accounting for parasitic resistances in the inductor, capacitor, and switches. An averaged state space approach is utilized to create a mathematical nonlinear model for the converter which is then linearized by employing the Exact Feedback Linearization technique. By applying optimal control theory, the controller's coefficients are fine-tuned for optimal performance. To assess the proposed method's performance, the dynamics of the compensated mechatronic system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. We identify the nonlinear normal modes spawning from the stable equilibrium of a double pendulum under gravity, and we establish their connection to homoclinic orbits through the unstable upright position as energy increases. This result is exploited to devise an efficient swing-up strategy for a double pendulum with weak, saturating actuators. Our approach involves stabilizing the system onto periodic orbits associated with the nonlinear modes while gradually injecting energy. Since these modes are autonomous system evolutions, the required control effort for stabilization is minimal. Even with actuator limitations of less than 1% of the maximum gravitational torque, the proposed method accomplishes the swing-up of the double pendulum by allowing sufficient time. The paper investigates the dynamic deformation of a viscoelastic anisotropic reinforced plate caused by rapidly increasing shear load, taking into account geometric nonlinearity. This complex problem is formulated as the solution of systems of nonlinear integro-differential equations with singular relaxation kernels. To solve this problem, a combination of the Bubnov-Galerkin method and a numerical approach using quadrature formulas is used. To substantiate the correctness of the choice of this numerical method, a test case was solved, which showed a sufficiently high accuracy of the obtained results. The study is devoted to the dynamic response of the plate, covering extensive variations of its physical, mechanical and geometric characteristics. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
