In a mobile ad hoc network (MANET), packet broadcast is common and frequently used to disseminate information. Broadcast consume large amount of bandwidth resource, which is scarce in MANET environment. The problem is to find the ideal forward node set so as to minimize the bandwidth consumed, which is a NP-Complete problem. In this paper we will investigate three dominant node approximation algorithms: dominant pruning, total dominant pruning and partial dominant pruning algorithm. An extension to the original algorithms, modified termination criteria, is proposed. Simulation results show that the new termination criteria ensure the same coverage using a reduced number of forward nodes. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

We describe how the support vector machine (SVM) technique can be applied to the knowledge discovery of decision table. In the case of decision rules acquisition, attribute set is reduced and characteristic samples are extracted by using SVM, and decision rules are then acquired based on a smaller number of support samples which could represent all samples. As a result, rules acquisition becomes faster and easier. In the case of class forecast, the samples of decision table are classified by using SVM, and a simple decision function is obtained. This decision function could forecast the sample's class and act as decision rules. It is another kind of knowledge expression. Experiments indicate that our method is simple and feasible, while it performs faster. Results also show that it has better performance for large decision table.

The dispensing mechanism of active code is a key technology in an active network. Conventional capsule and programmable switch approaches have their own shortcomings. The DCCAN(distributed code caching for active network) mechanism presented in this paper overcomes these shortcomings. In this paper, capsule and programmable switch approaches are introduced, and their shortcomings are analyzed. The principle of the DCCAN mechanism is described. The theory analysis in transmit width based on the DCCAN mechanism and capsule approach are described. The theory analysis shows that the DCCAN mechanism has many good characteristics and can improve the efficiency of an active network. Key factors which affect the transmit width based on the DCCAN mechanism are discussed. The using condition of the DCCAN mechanism is also discussed.

Future network should be able to efficiently serve packet-based networks, such as the Internet. In this paper, based on results from COST 266, we explore characteristics of Optical Burst switching (OBS) and Optical Packet Switching (OPS). Both node design and Metropolitan Area network (MAN) are discussed. A unique joint comparative performance evaluation of contention resolution in OBS and OPS are presented, as well as methods of Quality of Service (QoS) differentiation in OBS/OPS networks, and their performance. © 2003, institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. The foundation of any network management systens is a database that con-tains information about the network resources relevant to the management tasks. A networkinformation model is an abstraction of network resources, including both managed resources andmanaging resources. In the SNMP-based management framework, management information isdefined almost exclusively from a "device" viewpoint, namely, managing a network is equiva-lent to managing a collection of individual nodes. Aiming at making use of recent advances indistributed computing and in object-oriented analysis and design, the Internet management ar-chitecture can also be based on the Open Distributed Processing Reference Model (RM-ODP).The purpose of this article is to provide an Internet network Resource Information ***, a layered management information architecture will be discussed. Then the Internetnetwork resource information model is presented. The information model is specified usingObject-Z.

Active networks are packet-switched networks. It allows users to inject customized programs into the intermediate node of the network. The important difference of active network from traditional network is that active network consists of a series of active network nodes that are able to execute active codes and compute them. So, an active network node is the key of the architecture of active networks. This paper presents a scalable and secure active network node that provides the required flexibility of active network technology for dynamic services customized by users deployment and application-specific data processing and forwarding. In this paper, the composing components and services request interface and active application API are introduced, which make the active network node scalable, and the functions of the composing components can be dynamically extended. By describing the process procedure of capsules, we discuss the communication among these composing components. We develop a high performance active network node with a new mechanism to load an active code. We make the active network node secure by using a digital signature and secure execution engine that can authenticate the identities of principals and authorize to control resources accessing.

This paper presents the present study and research of knowledge discovery in database, points out the shortcoming of the classical a priori algorithm. Our research proposes the AprioriNEW algorithm based on reducing database, and analyses and appraises this algorithm in progress. The algorithm has been applied to mine the trap information in the network management.

Effective network management software ensures networks to run credibly. In this paper we discuss the design and implementation of network device fault management based on Pure Java. It includes designs of general functions, server functions, client functions and a database table. The software can make it convenient to monitoring a network device, and improve network efficiency.

In the network management area, management information models are based on a center of managed objects to denote the abstract of network resource. Internet management standards only tell how to access management variables. Aiming at making use of recent advances in distributed computing and in object oriented analysis and design, an Internet management architecture can also be based on the Open Distributed Processing Reference Model (RM-ODP). The purpose of the article is to provide an Internet object oriented information model. First, a layered management information architecture is discussed. Subsequent sections of the article present the generic object oriented information model. The information model is specified using Object-Z.

We describe the design and implementation of automated methodologies and tools that facilitate the implementation of an enhanced maintenance process in order to provide improved quality of service offered to the customers for the transaction access services (TAS) network. The emphasis of our work is placed on the identification, filtering and correlation of event occurrences that indicate problems that do not necessarily generate alarmed conditions on the conventional network management systems, and on the proactive service/fault management and detection based on dynamically defined violations of the base-lined performance profiles. Such an approach enhances considerably the network management and maintenance process, by identifying possible situations/incidents that may affect the network performance, and by correlating those incidents to the potentially affected elements, services and customer applications.
