Given 2D point correspondences between an image pair, inferring the camera motion is a fundamental issue in the computer vision community. The existing works generally set out from the epipolar constraint and estimate the essential matrix, which is not optimal in the maximum likelihood (ML) sense. In this paper, we dive into the original measurement model with respect to the rotation matrix and normalized translation vector and formulate the ML problem. We then propose a two-step algorithm to solve it: In the first step, we estimate the variance of measurement noises and devise a consistent estimator based on bias elimination;In the second step, we execute a one-step Gauss-Newton iteration on manifold to refine the consistent estimate. We prove that the proposed estimate owns the same asymptotic statistical properties as the ML estimate: The first is consistency, i.e., the estimate converges to the ground truth as the point number increases;The second is asymptotic efficiency, i.e., the mean squared error of the estimate converges to the theoretical lower bound - Cramer-Rao bound. In addition, we show that our algorithm has linear time complexity. These appealing characteristics endow our estimator with a great advantage in the case of dense point correspondences. Experiments on both synthetic data and real images demonstrate that when the point number reaches the order of hundreds, our estimator outperforms the state-of-the-art ones in terms of estimation accuracy and CPU time. Many data-driven patient risk stratification models have not been evaluated prospectively. We performed and compared the prospective and retrospective evaluations of 2 Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) risk-prediction models at 2 large academic health centers, and we discuss the models’ robustness to data-set shifts.

Language-driven grasp detection is a fundamental yet challenging task in robotics with various industrial applications. This work presents a new approach for language-driven grasp detection that leverages lightweight diffusion models to achieve fast inference time. By integrating diffusion processes with grasping prompts in natural language, our method can effectively encode visual and textual information, enabling more accurate and versatile grasp positioning that aligns well with the text query. To overcome the long inference time problem in diffusion models, we leverage the image and text features as the condition in the consistency model to reduce the number of denoising timesteps during inference. The intensive experimental results show that our method outperforms other recent grasp detection methods and lightweight diffusion models by a clear margin. We further validate our method in real-world robotic experiments to demonstrate its fast inference time capability.

The adoption of agricultural robots, or agrobots, has revolutionized modern farming operations, ranging from crop monitoring to automated harvesting, significantly boosting productivity. Motivated by the rapid advancements in agrobots and their integration into smart agricultural practices, this study proposes an autonomous trajectory tracking system for wheat farms using quadcopter UAVs. To address actuator fault detection, including stuck faults and partial loss of efficiency, a TSF-H∞-SMO (Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy-based H∞ Sliding Mode Observer) fault detection framework is introduced. The approach initiates with the derivation of a TSF (Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy) attitude control model that integrates an uncertainty term, constructed from the original nonlinear dynamics of the UAV and approximated through local linear models at four equilibrium positions. An actuator fault model is subsequently integrated to develop a comprehensive TSF-UAV model, accounting for actuator faults. The TSF-H∞-SMO is then designed using matrix coordinate transformation to enable precise fault detection. The fault detection capabilities of the TSF-H∞-SMO are evaluated through simulations on the TSF-UAV model under SISO (single-input single-output) actuator fault scenarios. The experimental results validate the proposed system, demonstrating its ability to detect a range of actuator faults accurately and promptly. The analysis reveals a proportional relationship between the amplitude of the state change and the severity of the fault, attributed to the interaction between system states and actuator flaps. This approach underscores the potential for deploying autonomous UAV-based fault detection and trajectory tracking systems in agricultural applications. Furthermore, integrating such advanced fault-tolerant control algorithms holds promise for consumer technology applications, where precision, reliability, and robustness are critical to enhancing system performance and operational efficiency. © 1

This paper is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in fault tolerance methods for cloud computing. Maintaining high availability and reliability of cloud environments requires fault tolerance. This paper explores fault tolerance in the context of cloud computing and discusses recent challenges and innovations in the field. Moreover, it examines the ongoing research efforts to improve fault-tolerance architectures. At the end of the paper, the paper presents system-level metrics that are relevant to fault tolerance.

Multi-kernel Correntropy-based Orientation Estimation of IMUs: Gradient Descent Methods

This paper presents two computationally efficient algorithms for the orientation estimation of inertial measurement units (IMUs): the multi-kernel correntropy-based gradient descent (CGD) and the multi-kernel correntropy-based decoupled orientation estimation (CDOE). Traditional methods, such as gradient descent (GD) and decoupled orientation estimation (DOE), rely on the least square (LS) criterion in algorithm derivation, making them vulnerable to external acceleration and magnetic interference. To address this issue, we first demonstrate that the multi-kernel correntropy loss (MKCL) is an optimal objective function under the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) framework when the noise follows a specific type of heavy-tailed distribution. Then, we provide some important properties of the MKCL as a cost function. By replacing the LS cost with the MKCL, we develop the CGD and CDOE algorithms. We evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed methods by comparing them with existing algorithms in various situations. Experimental results indicate that our proposed methods (CGD and CDOE) outperform their conventional counterparts (GD and DOE), especially when faced with external acceleration and magnetic disturbances. Furthermore, the new algorithms demonstrate significantly lower computational complexity than Kalman filter-based approaches, making them suitable for applications with low-cost microprocessors. Modern deep neural networks are able to beat human annotators in several medical image processing tasks. In practical manual annotation for medical image segmentation tasks, the labels of annotators often show inter-observer variability (IOV) which is mainly caused by annotators' different understandings of expertise. In order to build a trustworthy segmentation system, robust models should consider how to capture uncertainty in samples and labels. Different from the conventional way of handling IOV with label fusion such as majority voting, a fuzzy integral based ensemble framework of multiple deep learning models for optic disc segmentation is proposed. Each component segmentation model is trained with respect to an annotator. Then, a powerful nonlinear aggregation function, the Choquet integral, is employed in form of a neural network to integrate the segmentation results of multiple annotators. The proposed method is validated on the public RIM-ONE dataset consisting of 169 fundus images and each image is annotated by 5 experts. Compared with conventional segmentation ensemble methods, the proposed methods achieves a higher Dice score (98.69%). © 2021 ACM.

The paper considers continuous-time networked susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) diseases spreading over a population. Each agent represents a sub-population and has its own healing rate and infection rate;the state of the agent at a time instant denotes what fraction of the said sub-population is infected with the disease at the said time instant. By taking account of the changes in behaviors of the agents in response to the infection rates in real-time, our goal is to devise a feedback strategy such that the infection level for each agent strictly stays below a pre-specified value. Furthermore, we are also interested in ensuring that the closed-loop system converges either to the disease-free equilibrium or, when it exists, to the endemic equilibrium. The upshot of devising such a strategy is that it allows health administration officials to ensure that there is sufficient capacity in the healthcare system to treat the most severe cases. In the context of Industrial Anomaly Detection (IAD), ensuring the quality of manufactured products is critical. Traditional 2D based methods often fail to capture anomalies present in complex 3D shapes. For effective anomaly detection in 3D shapes, it is essential to incorporate global semantic context, local geometric structure, and color information of the object. To fully leverage these features, we propose a network named 2M3DF, that leverages knowledge from multi-view RGB images and corresponding point cloud information for enhanced anomaly detection performance. Our model initially employs pre-trained feature extractors that generate local features from multi-view RGB images and corresponding point clouds. The novel inter-modality feature representation and fusion module first adapts these inter-modality features and then effectively aligns and aggregates these multimodality features on a pixel-to-point basis. To learn the normality from point-wise fused multimodal features, we fit a multivariate Gaussian distribution to model the normal feature distribution. Comprehensive experimental evaluations using the MVTec3D-AD and Eyecandies dataset validate the effectiveness of our propose model and demonstrate significant improvements in comparison to existing state-of-the-art methods. Our model achieves a 96.6% mean I-AUROC while delivering real-time results. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

The need to calculate the abovementioned probability arises in the problems of aircraft control during landing.
