The conditional gradient idea proposed by Marguerite Frank and Philip Wolfe in 1956 was so well received by the community that new algorithms (also called Frank-Wolfe type algorithms) are still being actively created. In this paper, we study a non-smooth stochastic convex optimization problem with constraints. Using a smoothing technique and based on an accelerated batched first-order Stochastic Conditional Gradient Sliding method, we propose a novel gradient-free Frank-Wolfe type algorithm called Zero-Order Stochastic Conditional Gradient Sliding (ZO-SCGS). This algorithm is robust not only for the class of non-smooth problems, but surprisingly also for the class of smooth black box problems, outperforming the SOTA algorithms in the smooth case in term oracle calls. Break-Up of the Taylor Bubble

High-resolution direct numerical simulation is used to study the motion of a Taylor bubble in a cylindrical microtube under conditions that lead to the bubble break-up. It is observed that the initial bubble elongates and deforms such that its front part retains a bullet-like shape while its back part forms a skirt shape. Subsequently, the carrier fluid surrounded by the skirt penetrates into the bubble forming a finger that transitions into a bulb shape. The bulb then increases in size until it touches the near-wall liquid film and as a result splits the bubble into two comparable daughter bubbles. Various dynamical features of this break-up process are explored and described in detail. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Eco-driving Incentive Mechanisms for Mitigating Emissions in Urban Transportation

This paper proposes incentive mechanisms that promote eco-driving in transportation networks with the overarching objective of minimizing emissions. The transportation system operator provides the drivers with energy-efficient driving guidance throughout their trips, and their eco-driving levels are measured by how closely they follow this guidance via vehicle telematics. Drivers choose their eco-driving levels to optimize a combination of their travel times and their emissions. To obtain optimal budget allocation and recommendations for the incentive mechanism, the system operator gathers drivers’ preferences, or types, to assess each driver’s trip urgency and natural willingness to eco-drive. In a setting where drivers truthfully report their types, we introduce the first-best incentive mechanism and show that the obedience condition holds (i.e., drivers find it optimal to comply with the system operator’s recommendations) when the recommended eco-driving profile constitutes a Nash equilibrium. Moreover, in a setting where drivers can strategically report their types, we introduce the second-best incentive mechanism and show that the proposed mechanism is incentive-compatible (i.e., drivers find it optimal to be truthful). Under this mechanism, we also show that all equilibrium outcomes are at least as good as the recommended eco-driving profile in terms of the system operator’s objective. Overall, this work offers a framework for designing eco-driving incentive mechanisms while considering both the strategic behavior of individual drivers and the network effects of collective decision-making. © 2024, CC BY.

Decentralized applications (DApps) can utilize blockchain and smart contract technologies to ensure the decentralization, transparency, and tamper-resistance of industrial control software testing. However, testing efforts conducted via DApps are typically confined to a single blockchain. Coordinating and scheduling DApps deployed on different blockchains has become a critical challenge. Moreover, DApps need to verify the credibility of crowdsourcing participants to ensure the reliability of testing. In order to address these issues, this paper proposes SAMOC, an atomic cross-chain system based on the Atomic-Oracle chain, which aims to realize atomic cross-chain invocations for DApps. SAMOC can realize atomic cross-chain invokes, and the intelligent community deployed on the Atomic-Oracle chain calculates the reputation of users' accounts across multiple chains through Oracle. This paper also designs a corresponding incentive mechanism to ensure that the auditing of cross-chain invokes is honest and trustworthy. Experimental results show that the cross-chain invokes of the proposed SAMOC scheme have lower latency compared to AtomCI. © 2024 IEEE.

When applying the Bayesian manifold regularization method to function estimation problem with manifold constraints, the direct implementation has computational complexity $\mathcal{O}(N^{3})$ , where $N$ is the number of input-output data measurements. This becomes particularly costly when $N$ is large. In this paper, we propose a more efficient implementation based on the Kalman filter and smoother using a state-space model realization of the underlying Gaussian process. Moreover, we explore the sequentially semi-separable structure of the Laplacian matrix and the posterior covariance matrix. Our proposed implementation has computational complexity $\mathcal{O}(N)$ and thus can be applied to large data problems. We exemplify the effectiveness of our proposed implementation through numerical simulations.

Generating 3d Fish Skeleton Via Optimization Iterative Method and Fishskeletonnet

Simplified fish skeleton can help 3D fish modeling, and can quickly simulate the poses and motions of fish of different shapes, which is important for virtual reality in agriculture. Compared with the same characteristics of the human skeleton, the fish skeleton structure is not always consistent. Therefore, it is challenging to generate a realistic and simple fish skeleton. We present an iterative optimization method for generating a 3D fish skeleton model that accurately captures the complex structure of the fish skeleton. Our method differs from conventional methods that generate the skeleton based solely on the geometric shape of the 3D mesh. We analyze the biological features of the fish's actual motion to extract the skeleton of the main part and define the fish skeleton model. The model parameters, including the number and position of joints, are iteratively optimized using a sample dataset with different shapes and five common postures. Finally, we propose FishSkeletonNet to generate fish skeletons of different shapes and poses based on the above data as the dataset. We conduct experiments on the grass carp dataset to quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate the number and location of generated skeleton joints. The experimental results demonstrate that our method generates fish skeletons that are closer to the true structure of the fish skeleton and exhibit better biological plausibility compared to those generated by existing methods. © 2023, The Authors. To improve the efficiency of evolutionary algorithms(EAs)for solving complex problems with large populations,this paper proposes a scalable parallel evolution optimization(SPEO)framework with an elastic asynchronous migration(EAM)*** addresses two main challenges that arise in large-scale parallel EAs:(1)heavy communication workload from extensive information exchange across numerous processors,which reduces computational efficiency,and(2)loss of population diversity due to similar solutions generated and shared by many *** EAM mechanism introduces a self-adaptive communication scheme to mitigate communication overhead,while a diversity-preserving buffer helps maintain diversity by filtering similar *** results on eight CEC2014 benchmark functions using up to 512 CPU cores on the Australian National Computational Infrastructure(NCI)platform demonstrate that SPEO not only scales efficiently with an increasing number of processors but also achieves improved solution quality compared to state-of-the-art island-based EAs.

Tripartite entanglement measure under local operations and classical communication

Multipartite entanglement is an indispensable resource in quantum communication and computation; however, it is a challenging task to faithfully quantify this global property of multipartite quantum systems. In this work we study the concurrence fill, which admits a geometric interpretation to measure genuine tripartite entanglement for the three-qubit system [Xie and Eberly, Phys. Rev. Lett. 127, 040403 (2021)]. First, we use the well-known three-tangle and bipartite concurrence to reformulate this quantifier for all pure states. We then construct an explicit example to conclusively show that the concurrence fill can be increased under local operations and classical communication (LOCC) on average, implying it is not an entanglement monotone. Moreover, we give a simple proof of the LOCC monotonicity of the three-tangle and find that the bipartite concurrence and the squared concurrence can have distinct performances under the same LOCC. Finally, we propose a reliable monotone to quantify genuine tripartite entanglement, which can also be easily generalized to the multipartite system. Our results shed light on the study of genuine entanglement and also reveal the complex structure of multipartite systems.

With the rapid development of information technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) has become more complex, and more and more devices and users are connected to the IoT system. While improving data interactivity and expanding the scope of data sharing, secure access to IoT resources is also facing great risks. Therefore, it is necessary to design an appropriate access control scheme. Firstly, this paper introduces Decentralized Identifiers (DID) and Verifiable Credentials. It is used for authentication and rights management of users and devices, respectively, which makes identity and authority unforgeable. Secondly, this paper uses blockchain technology to support DID and Verifiable Credentials, which can ensure the decentralization, invariance and traceability of data. Finally, using smart contracts enables automatic processing of requester authorization and access requests. The test results show that the scheme has good performance.
