High-speed communications suffer from intersymbol interference (ISI) introduced by the channel. In order to combat ISI one commonly uses equalizers that need a training sequence to adjust the equalizer tap weights. When sending a training sequence is not appropriate, blind equalization has to be used. A new blind linear equalizer is proposed. The equalizer has a recursive structure. To avoid stability problems, a soft limiter is used in the feedback loop. The weights are controlled by means of the decorrelation algorithm. For channels without precursors, the equalizer converges to the desired weights in around 500 iterations, depending on the amount of distortion. The novel blind equalization technique is globally convergent for minimum and non-minimum phase channels.

This paper proposes a method for utilizing thermal features of the hand for the purpose of presentation attack detection (PAD) that can be employed in a hand biometrics system's pipeline. By envisaging two different operational modes of our system, and by employing a DCNN-based classifiers fine-tuned with a dataset of real and fake hand representations captured in both visible and thermal spectrum, we were able to bring two important deliverables. First, a PAD method operating in an open-set mode, capable of correctly discerning 100% of fake thermal samples, achieving Attack Presentation Classification Error Rate (APCER) and Bona-Fide Presentation Classification Error Rate (BPCER) equal to 0%, which can be easily implemented into any existing system as a separate component. Second, a hand biometrics system operating in a closed-set mode, that has PAD built right into the recognition pipeline, and operating simultaneously with the user-wise classification, achieving rank-1 recognition accuracy of up to 99.75%. We also show that thermal images of the human hand, in addition to liveness features they carry, can also improve classification accuracy of a biometric system, when coupled with visible light images. To follow the reproducibility guidelines and to stimulate further research in this area, we share the trained model weights, source codes, and a newly created dataset of fake hand representations with interested researchers. In this paper, we propose an interoceptive-only odometry system for ground robots with neural network processing and soft constraints based on the assumption of a globally continuous ground manifold. Exteroceptive sensors such as cameras, GPS and LiDAR may encounter difficulties in scenarios with poor illumination, indoor environments, dusty areas and straight tunnels. Therefore, improving the pose estimation accuracy only using interoceptive sensors is important to enhance the reliability of navigation system even in degrading scenarios mentioned above. However, interoceptive sensors like IMU and wheel encoders suffer from large drift due to noisy measurements. To overcome these challenges, the proposed system trains deep neural networks to correct the measurements from IMU and wheel encoders, while considering their uncertainty. Moreover, because ground robots can only travel on the ground, we model the ground surface as a globally continuous manifold using a dual cubic B-spline manifold to further improve the estimation accuracy by this soft constraint. A novel space-based sliding-window filtering framework is proposed to fully exploit the C2 continuity of ground manifold soft constraints and fuse all the information from raw measurements and neural networks in a yaw-independent attitude convention. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed approach can outperform state-of-the-art learning-based interoceptive-only odometry methods. © 2024, CC BY.

The article discusses the theoretical foundations of the design of a single-channel ultrahigh frequency moisture meter with direct measurement of the moisture content of bulk materials. In accordance with the requirements of the methodology for selecting efficiency criteria, it is necessary to develop structural diagrams of measuring devices. For these purposes, the standard deviation of the random error is determined, characterizing the accuracy. It includes the main components: sensitivity error, zero error and additive component. Mathematical models of structures are constructed and the standard deviation of random errors, which are caused by certain parameters and additive fluctuations, is calculated. A single-parameter ultrahigh-frequency method for determining the moisture content is proposed. This method provides high accuracy of a single-channel ultrahigh frequency moisture meter with direct measurement of the moisture content of bulk materials. The measuring device can be used in the agricultural industry, where humidity is one of the important parameters, starting with harvesting and ending with the release of finished products.

In this paper, we consider the robustness of a basic model of a dynamical distribution network. In the first problem, i.e., optimal weight allocation, we minimize the H∞- norm of the dynamical distribution network subject to allocation of the weights on the edges. It is shown that this optimization problem can be formulated as a semi-definite program. Next we consider the semi-definiteness of the weighted graph Laplacian matrix with negative weights on the edges. A necessary and sufficient condition, using the effective resistance matrix, is established to guarantee the positive semi-definiteness of the Laplacian matrix. This paper proposes a semi-Markov model of telecommunication network (TCN). The variant of dynamic traffic adaptive control of queuing system as a special case of TCN is considered. The main purpose of control is to minimize the average cost per unit of time to service the incoming flow of information (packets). This takes into account the different bandwidth of the channels, the processing speed of information in the channel and the information capacity of the buffers. The approach to the organization of dynamic control taking into account noise immunity (information reliability) and information security is discussed.

The Meta Distribution of SINR in UAV-Assisted Cellular Networks

Mounting compact and lightweight base stations on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is a cost-effective and flexible solution to provide seamless coverage on the existing terrestrial networks. While the coverage probability in UAV-assisted cellular networks has been widely investigated, it provides only the first-order statistic of signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). In this paper, to analyze high-order statistics of SINR and characterize the disparity among individual links, we provide a meta distribution (MD)-based analytical framework for UAV-assisted cellular networks, in which the probabilistic line-of-sight channel and realistic antenna pattern are taken into account for air-to-ground transmissions. To accurately characterize the interference from UAVs, we relax the widely applied uniform off-boresight angle (OBA) assumption and derive the exact distribution of OBA. Using stochastic geometry, for both steerable and vertical antenna scenarios, we obtain mathematical expressions for the moments of condition success probability, the SINR MD, and the mean local delay. Moreover, we study the asymptotic behavior of the moments as network density approaches infinity. Numerical results validate the tightness of the theoretical results and show that the uniform OBA assumption underestimates the network performance, especially in the regime of moderate altitude of UAV. We also show that when UAVs are equipped with steerable antennas, the network coverage and user fairness can be optimized simultaneously by carefully adjusting the UAV parameters. In an Internet-based control system, particular human operations may violate desired requirements and lead to destructive failure. For such human-in-the-loop systems, this paper extends the remote supervisory scheme by Lee and Hsu (2003) to a modular one so as to reduce the supervisor synthesis complexity. Also, remote human issued commands are guaranteed to meet required specifications. A rapid thermal process in semiconductor manufacturing systems is provided to show the practicability of the proposed approach.

The turn-to-turn short is one major fault of the motor faults of BLDC motors and can appear frequently. When the fault happens, the motor can be operated without breakdown, but it is necessary to maintain the motor for continuous working. In past research, several methods have been applied to detect winding faults. The representative approaches have been focusing on current signals, which can give important information to extract features and to detect faults. In this study, current sensors were installed to measure signals for fault detection of BLDC motors. In this study, the Park's vector method was used to extract the features and to isolate the faults from the current measured by sensors. Because this method can consider the three-phase current values, it is useful to detect features from one-phase and three-phase faults. After extracting two-dimensional features, the final feature was generated by using the two-dimensional values using the distance equation. The values were used in fuzzy similarity to isolate the faults. Fuzzy similarity is an available tool to diagnose the fault without model generation and the fault was converted to the percentage value that can be considered as possibility of the fault.
