The paper considers a mathematical model that describes the interactions between the economic system and the ecological system through waste emissions, resource consumption, and the restoration of restorable resources. It is assumed that the state levies a tax on waste emissions, thereby controlling emissions and the consumption of resources by the economy. The model also describes the impact of economic and environmental factors on demographics. The state should strive for economic growth and avoid environmental disasters, and the model can be useful for achieving these goals. Besides, a software implementation of the model was constructed. Some technical details of the software implementation were also considered. Numerical experiment with one of the possible sets of parameters’ values was carried out, which displayed one of the possible situations of stable development. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The glucose–insulin subsystem has been modeled in different ways as a low-dimensional dynamical system. These models consist of various parameters, which are fitted such that the model coincides with specific experiments. For individuals with the Diabetes Mellitus syndrome model-based controllers for insulin injection have been proposed. These controllers, however, require the knowledge of the model parameters as well as the full systems state, which must be estimated as well. In addition, the system is disturbed by, in general, unknown carbohydrate intake. From a control-theoretic point of view, the state estimation using only the measurable glucose concentration is an observer problem. Due to the nonlinearity of the system, its observability is more difficult to test. There may also be some points in the state space, where the system is not locally observable for some parameters tuples. Those issues are important for a robust observer design. In this contribution, several observers are discussed for the widely used Bergman minimal model. These include unknown-input observers that make use of the special systems structure as well as observers based on the observability canonical form with different embedding dimensions. The canonical form is computed by algebraic methods. © 2024 The Author(s).

Electrocardiograms (ECG) are non-invasive signals and have proven useful in assessing the heart condition. Given the necessity for extensive datasets in ECG classification using deep learning (DL) models, there is a critical imperative to devise data augmentation methods capable of generating synthetic but realistic dataset suitable for training DL model. In this study, we propose a novel approach for augmenting ECG signals, aiming to produce realistic signals while optimizing memory usage and resource requirements. Building upon our previous work in ECG signal augmentation, we revisit the methodology to address limitations observed in the generation of synthetic signals. The existing method segmented ECG signals into fixed-length segments and combined them, occasionally resulting in unrealistic heart cycles within the signals in extreme condition. To address this issue, our proposed technique incorporates R peak detection, signal segmentation, and reordering based on the R-peaks information. We evaluated the proposed method using three benchmark datasets, including PTB-XL, Chapman-Shaoxin from PhysioNet, and the dataset from China Physiological Signal Challenge 2018 (CPSC-2018), for classifying atrial fibrillation from normal samples. Our approach achieved an accuracy of 0.83, sensitivity of 0.86, specificity of 0.80, F1-score of 0.83, and precision of 0.80. These results underscore the effectiveness and efficiency of our method in augmenting ECG signals for various applications in healthcare and biomedical research. © 2024 Division of Signal Processing and Electronic Systems, Poznan University of technology (DSPES PUT).

Immoral post detection using a one-dimensional convolutional neural network-based LSTM network

In text mining and Natural Language Processing (NLP), extracting emotions from textual data is gaining rapid attraction. The proliferation of online content and the freedom of expression on social media platforms has compelled the advancement of more sophisticated methods for the automatic identification of unwanted content. The One-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (1D-CNN) performs best for feature extraction, while the Long Short-Term Memory Network (LSTM) is well-known for extracting sequential features and classification of textual data. This study proposes a novel solution by combining 1D-CNN with LSTM. Utilizing a context-aware model, this study aims to enhance the detection of immoral posts, including hate speech and other forms of immoral content on social media platforms. Various posts are extracted from social media, which are then processed using Glove word embedding models. It depicts the word representations in the text, which yields the form of a real-valued vector determining the words' meaning. The 1D convolution utilizes a filter window over the input time-series data to extract features. Relying on the acquired parameters of the filters, they act as feature extractors. This feature extraction technique allows the model to distinguish detailed patterns and nuances from the textual contents of posts. The sequential processing capabilities of the LSTM network enable an in-depth examination of the text, capturing temporal relationships and context, which is critical for successful content categorization. To validate the proposed model, we utilized a benchmark dataset, called the Twitter dataset. The proposed model achieved the highest accuracy of 95.37% and outperforms state-of-the-art works. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

In recent years, the hyperspectral image (HSI) classification has attracted great attention in the field of earth observation. With the expansion of application scenarios and the continuous improvement of application requirements, new classes of HSI continue to emerge. In the face of open and dynamic application scenarios, the model is required to be able to continuously learn new categories based on maintaining existing category knowledge. Class incremental learning algorithms have received extensive attention as key solutions to the problem above. In this paper, we use a regularization-based incremental learning algorithm, elastic weight consolidation (EWC) for class incremental learning for HSI classification. After data preprocessing to reduce data dimensions, we select new classes for research on class incremental learning. We combine 3D-2D convolutional structures and residual blocks as the classification network and use real data playback mechanism to improve class recognition accuracy and realize class incremental recognition of HSI data. We demonstrate the feasibility of the algorithm with extensive experiments based on three widely used hyperspectral datasets. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Training summarization models requires substantial amounts of training data. However for less resourceful languages like Hungarian, openly available models and datasets are notably scarce. To address this gap our paper introduces HunSum-2 an open-source Hungarian corpus suitable for training abstractive and extractive summarization models. The dataset is assembled from segments of the Common Crawl corpus undergoing thorough cleaning, preprocessing and deduplication. In addition to abstractive summarization we generate sentence-level labels for extractive summarization using sentence similarity. We train baseline models for both extractive and abstractive summarization using the collected dataset. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the trained models, we perform both quantitative and qualitative evaluation. Our dataset, models and code are publicly available, encouraging replication, further research, and real-world applications across various domains. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

Paraphrase identification, with the objective to determine whether two sentences are paraphrases of each other, has fostered many applications including natural language inference and document retrieval. Traditional machine learning models for paraphrase identification are generally based on hand-crafted features. Recent deep neural network models generally take semantic vectors as inputs and generate classification results directly. However, existing solutions still have much room for improvement. First, existing models do not fully exploit sequence information (i.e., the order of words) and topic information, which are important for text under-standing. Second, although deep models achieve promising results, they require a large amount of labelled data and have low interpretability. To cope with these problems, we propose a new model called PIM-ST (Paraphrase Identification Model Incorporating Sequence and Topic Information). Specifically, besides semantic information, PIM-ST extracts sequence information and topic information, and adopts a simple machine learning model LightGBM as the classifier. We conduct comparative experiments and ablation studies on two public datasets Microsoft Research Paraphrase Corpus (MSRP) and Quora Question Pairs. Experimental results show that PIM-ST achieves better results than existing state-of-the-art models. © 2024 IEEE.

This study presents the architecture and performance evaluation of a high-capacity free-space optical (FSO) communication system that makes use of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and a 1.28 Tb/s link. The system under consideration comprises 64 individual channels, each of which is capable of transferring data streams at a speed of 20 Gbps. A return-to-zero (RZ) line coding algorithm is incorporated to maximize performance across 2.0 km of FSO link. Important parameters that affect the system's performance, like beam divergence and atmosphere attenuation, are taken into account in the analysis. The signals' bit-error-rate (BER), quality factor (Q), and eye diagrams are calculated and examined to assess the system's performance. For future optical-wireless networks that require significant bandwidth capabilities, cost-effective implementation, and increased flexibility, this novel high-capacity design offers a promising solution. The results aid in the development of dependable and useful high-speed FSO communication systems. © 2024 IEEE.

As the novel research of space technologies, non-terrestrial-network (NTN) is one of the most important technologies. Mega satellite constellation is the baseline of the NTN technologies. Unfortunately, as the density of satellite deployment, the risk of collisions between satellites also increases significantly. Therefore, sensing technology is an important solution to avoid collisions within constellation. In this article, a sensing system for satellite constellation is proposed. It contains multiple subsystems working together to ensure measurement accuracy. An accurate laser measurement based on frequency swept interferometer (FIS) is the core of the sensing technologies. With a sensing distance of a few hundred meters, the specific FSI system can realize microns meterss accuracy in many experiments. Those results guarantee the well performance of the sensing system. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
